Plenty of other video games out there - like I said, my backlog is killing me! - so it's honestly not even a difficult sacrifice. Though I'm also not new to this I guess. Plenty of series/franchises I loved as a kid and were in some ways pretty foundational for me turned out to have been created by some odious people - Ender's Game, Harry Potter, Kenshin. I can't go back in time and not buy them but it certainly colors how I look back on them. The very least - and I mean very least - I can do is not support them going forward - whether that's Hogwarts Legacy, whatever new HP movies they're rumored to want to make, that Kenshin sequel, etc. But that's just my thoughts on the matter as it relates to myself. I'm not trying to impose it on anyone else. Like has been said, if anything I find it a bit more sus when someone makes a big deal of justifying buying it to others than if they were just to do so and not call attention to it in any big way by like just posting in a discussion topic about the actual game itself. --- May you find your book in this place. It was a weird trajectory where my mom ended up being a bigger fan than me at the end of it lol. There were definitely moments that even as a kid rubbed me the wrong way - the easy example is Hermione, the House Elves, and SPEW where like... Hermione was objectively correct in what she was doing but the book clearly was trying to push the message that she was crazy/an irritant. Kid/young teen me didn't make the jump to equating it to protest/activism/status quo at the time but it just seemed wrong to me even then and just a weird thing to have happened. Ender's Game/OSC was definitely the biggest influence for me I'd say. I forget exactly how old I was when I came across it, probably still elementary school and it was the first novel series I just fell in love with - bought and enjoyed all the sequels (and the accompanying Bean series) but I absolutely wasn't able to at the time understand many of the themes - I was basically reading and enjoying it at the most surface understanding (not to say there's anything wrong with that, but so much was going over my head LOL) Kenshin wasn't exactly my intro to anime/manga (I'd credit that to Toonami as a whole more than anything) but it was the first manga series where I ended up buying all the volumes including eagerly awaiting a new volume release and I really enjoyed it and then... yeah, we all know what happened later. --- May you find your book in this place. I thought the dude was preaching diversity and empathy with people different from you! And I think it's fair to say the books still do if that's what you take from it. The message should be "Don't buy this game, because it enables Rowling's transphobia against us." But I also feel like it's not going to work specifically because its goals are a bit abstract, without any real ultimate change in mind. It's why most people went about watching the World Cup even though it was hosted in the human rights disaster that was Qatar. A lot of people don't care much about sending a message. That's not to say I think people should buy this game. I think people have to consider the ethical considerations for themselves, and decide if that's what they want to do.
