yeah this is the easy way to do it

You could also have had mutants/X-Men somehow "hidden" from the SHIELD / the entire MCU for the last forty years, via trapped in an alternate universe/space crystal /tardis. The first X-Men film could be set in the past and explain why they've been missing all this time.
You know it's just going to be bullshit multiverse stuff though.

So I watched an ABC News thing talking about the Jonathan Majors title, and it had videos as well and talked about what happened in the trial itself.

So what it seems like is that Jonathan Majors' girlfriend was very drunk during this whole time, and she was trying to run out into traffic, and he was forcibly throwing her back into the car a few times. It was then that she got the injuries, and that's why it was reckless assault in the third degree. The jury agreed it was unintentional. However, there's also video of him running away from her and them fighting over his phone, which she was trying to take away from him, and she had injuries on a couple of her fingers too over this. The whole thing appears to have started with her thinking he was texting another girl.

During the trial, he had those insane text messages and the jury agreed those were harassment, but the harassment charge isn't even a criminal charge. It's like a parking ticket; it doesn't go on your record or anything.

What I found interesting was that Jonathan Majors didn't take the stand in court. He would have had to explain those insane text messages, and it seemed like he wanted to avoid that. Which is fair. However, had he taken the stand, he might have been able to explain his side more clearly about her taking his cell phone, among other things. It may have helped, but it may have hurt.

But what I think was the biggest screw up is that his counsel decided to go with the strategy of questioning his girlfriend's injuries and talking about how they weren't that bad which is a decent direction to go (even if the images show she absolutely was hurt), but they didn't argue that he had a right to self defense and a lawful right to use force to get his property back. It seems like they wanted to present Majors as having done nothing wrong at all and had never really hurt her that much, but they could have said "Even if he DID hurt her though..." and rattled off that argument. I think if they made that argument, he may have actually been found not guilty of everything. But it was never a thought in the jury's mind that he could have been acting lawfully if she took his phone, so they didn't factor it in.

I kind of understand the insane text messages if he felt he was going to lose everything over this, which he did. Especially since everything points to him not intentionally harming her and just trying to keep her from hurting herself further and trying not to let her take his cell phone. Things escalated, a lot of it by her acting recklessly by being drunk. It's a sad situation.

Ugh, I just went on Twitter and everyone is reporting that he was just guilty of assault and harassment, which while true, is definitely missing the important detail that it's reckless assault, not intentional. And them all saying he's facing up to a year of jail time which, while true that third degree assault can have up to a year of jail time, it's so incredibly rare and he's just going to get a fine.

I think it's important to stress these details because people are going to think he just maliciously beat her or something and that if he gets less than jail time, it will be because he's a celebrity receiving special treatment.

Social media sucks.

Majors verdicts: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/jonathan-majors-trial-verdict-1235759607/

Says there's 4 charges sooo

* A New York jury found Marvel actor Jonathan Majors guilty of reckless assault in the third degree and guilty of harassment.
* He was found not guilty of intentional assault in the third degree and not guilty of aggravated harassment in second degree.
* Sentencing is set for Feb. 6.
Okay, this is honestly a lot better than I thought he'd fare given what came out.

Reckless assault is when you hurt someone accidentally by being careless. Looking into this, it seems like they were having a fight and she was trying to get out of the car and he threw her back into it, and that's where the injury happened.

From what came out, I was sure he would have gotten the intentional assault charge. But I'm assuming the rest of the case went in his favor after the juicy headlines posted here earlier. I expect he'll get a hefty fine and walk away without anything else. These rarely result in jail time.

But it's looking likely that the truth is more towards him just getting too physical and careless trying to keep her in the car, according to their case he was trying to keep her from running into traffic, and she got banged up from that. And then the text messages seemed like actual remorse for him unintentionally hurting her.

He may well have been a domestic abuser, but I feel like if that was true, he would have easily been convicted of intentional assault.

Sif in Love & Thunder is the absolute worst part of that movie.

She's in there to be a punch line and nothing else. Just a completely baffling inclusion. She would have been better off not even being in it and replacing her with a generic God. The same interaction could have happened.

The best part about Sif in the previous movies was that Thor trusted her enough to open up to her, because he was always reserved enough not to confide in anyone else. And they could have had a meaningful talk about how Asgard fell, and how the last of Thor's only friends from there was dying from a Gorr attack. But instead they just have them babble out some unfunny jokes. Just terrible.

I still miss the old Asgard universe and aesthetic. New Asgard is just a lame punchline and so many more times less interesting.

Having Executioner without Enchantress was a weird choice though. Not having Enchantress at all, especially in a movie called Love and Thunder, is just wild.

Man nothing about how this has played out made any sense from a legal standpoint. That said, this feels pretty damning. Just re-cast him though. People are blaming Kang for why the MCU is in a tailspin but it's really not him. If anything, an Avengers movie where they just wrap up the Kang stuff will only help strengthen the MCU.

Man, I dunno what they could have done differently here honestly. I do think too much money is spent on making these movies and there has to be a way to cut down on it. But I don't know. This movie hardly seems like the movie that should have bombed as hard as it did, but I think it's a symptom of a relatively directionless MCU right now.

Yeah, Kang is on the horizon, but we have no Avengers team, nothing cohesive about the multiverse stuff, and there's a couple of team ups, but it really feels like the MCU is just directionless right now with characters having their own little arcs and different stories. I think some things were carrying these films lately. Nostalgia bait, for one, probably helped elevate interest. Or the finality of the Guardians movie. But without either of those things for Captain Marvel, it kind of makes sense that it failed.

I don't think people are as jazzed for multiverse stuff either. Which vibes with me right now too. And the direction of multiverse BS isn't what a want or need for any of these films going forward, but that's all we're getting. Meh.

I watched Monstrous on a plane ride home last night starring Christina Ricci, that came out last year and I just never heard of it. It's about a mom in the 1950's who moved away from her ex-husband with their son, but a monster from the lake keeps coming into their house.

It was... pretty good. I think it might be interesting to watch it a second time because there's a late film moment that changes everything about it. But overall, it was a pretty basic story that is elevated by the ending. It's not really that special on the way there though. Some effects were also great to questionable. But it has Christina Ricci in it, so it's easy to stay engaged because she's awesome.

I think Thor 1 is also very underrated. There was something about the world building that was very special in that movie, and the drama of it was all totally on point for what Thor should be.

I think Waititi brought a very important style to Ragnarok, but keep in mind he didn't write that movie. He just directed it. And his directing style has never been in question.

But when he wrote Love & Thunder, you can see this quote was very much true. He didn't like or care about Thor as a character. He just wanted to tell his nonsense story with unfunny jokes. He doesn't "get" Thor, and it shows. And it's honestly sad, because there was a much better story that could have been told there with Gorr had he really cared to tell something better.

I finished up the new Goosebumps series! It was a really, really good show with outstanding effects given what we're dealing with here. You can tell there's a lot of love and care for the series in this, and I think what I like most is that they don't just give us the same adaptations of the stories, but they give us a new adaptation of them that fits inside the framework of the overarching story they tell here. It's a show that has a bunch of twists and turns and it's ultimately just a great show to watch. Season 2 seems likely, so I'm looking forward to it!

The most recent Marvel movies or D+ shows sometimes get a character out for a day or weekend but it comes out of their promotional budget and then those characters are never seen again.
See, this part I don't think is true. I saw a wide spread of characters in one day.

Hawkeye
Kate Bishop
Dr. Strange
Spider-Man
Captain America
Falcon
Ms. Marvel
Photon
Shang Chi
Iron Man
Thor
Ant-Man
Wasp
Black Panther
Loki

Like that's a lot of characters and more than I would have expected here. And those are just the ones that I saw personally while floating around.

I did think that the merch options for the Avengers areas were kind of bad too. I was looking forward to getting a shirt or anything from there, but none of them really appealed to me.

But Disneyland in general didn't have a lot of merch that appealed to me anyway because none of my favorite Disney stuff was really represented, and I wanted to buy a Jack Skellington button up but it was $60 and I definitely didn't like it that much.

Not to get too off topic, but I prefer the Avengers area to Star Wars area. I don't care about roleplaying with the street sweeper while I'm just trying to find your ride. Millennium Falcon ride is cool, but would be cooler without these roles and interactive bits. I just don't get the point. And it's not very fun.

The Resistance ride that came out was incredible. One of the best I've been on. Love it entirely. Except I don't need to play along and watch the IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE before I got to go on your dope ass ride. Get rid of most of that and I love the ride a lot more.

IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE kills a lot of stuff for me because I just want to get on the ride. Explain the whole story without the nonsense, before putting me in another line to see the rest of the attraction. It's not too much to ask.

I did the Spider-Man ride and it was fun, but obviously the Spider-Man ride at Universal Orlando clears it every time. It's one of my favorite rides and the standard for the 4D experience.

I still think the Avengers Compound is fun, and going on the Guardians ride a second time was a completely different experience because of different scenes and music (I sorely missed Drax beating the monster, demanding us to thank him, and then cackling madly).

But I assume they're working to make Avengers Compound bigger and better. But for kids, it's a blast. And they put a lot of effort into choreography and making sure there's characters out there to perform. It's hard to hate it. It could be better, for sure, but I'm sure they're working on that.

Why not Spider-Man 2099? Whole universe there to explore. Spider-Man Noir? Sinister Six movie based on the Superior Foes of Spider-Man? Wraith? Scarlet Spider? Spider-Woman?

Off the top of my head these are movies that work better than whatever it is they've chosen to do between Morbius, Madame Web, and Kraven.

Yeah, I do think a bit of the Norman stuff was disjointed for sure. It doesn't bother me as much because he's a career asshole. I don't think his attitude really changed as much at the end.

Him blaming Spider-Man is him being an asshole, taking out all of his issues on everyone else but himself. Because Norman feels he did every single thing he could to get his son back, succeeded, and wasn't ready to blame the highly experimental goo monster he made on himself. It's easier to blame Spider-Man. And now he has to do something so much more dangerous in his desperation, the G-Serum, which he clearly didn't want to use before on his son.

What I find more strange is the weird jealousy angle they went with out of nowhere, where Norman is complimenting Peter and Harry is just infuriated by it. He doesn't have the symbiote manipulating him or anything, so it just seems really weird. Like Norman was moving heaven and earth to cure Harry, so obviously he cares a lot about him. It's just weird they have that one scene of Harry having a meltdown over it and then it's never addressed. It may be a throwaway line about it during one of the boss battles?

Oh, one other thing about Kraven.

I think it sucks that he gets to die in his great hunt to Venom. Kraven tore the city apart like an asshole, murdering a bunch of villains and Innocents, and then he wins and gets what he wants in the end. That fucking sucks.

Spider-Man should've stopped him from being killed by Venom somehow. Then he has to live with the fact that his glorious death at the hands of the biggest prey will never happen.

Hell, I'd have him fighting for the opportunity to face Venom during the symbiote takeover, only for Peter and Miles to have stopped him from doing so. Then when they wipe out the symbiote threat, Kraven comes out of nowhere for a final fight to the death. Then you have Peter or Miles just beat him and refuse to kill him despite him pleading for it. Because that's the thing that hurts Kraven more than anything else, and his zealot Hunters see him as a fraud after that too.

As cool as it is to see Venom bite off Kraven's head, it kind of sucks that the Spider-Men spend the whole game trying to fight and stop Kraven and they aren't even there for his final moments. And it also sucks that Kraven does all of this terrible, awful stuff and then he gets exactly what he wants in the end, making the struggle against him kind of pointless. There's a lot to love about Kraven in this game, but I think they just missed the mark when it came to his overall story arc.

I finally 100% beat Spider-Man 2. Overall, I'm more satisfied from a gameplay standpoint. I feel the combat takes a bit of time to really get to the level of combat in the first game with the gadgets. But once you get enough upgrades with them, it feels really good to play. Travel is great. Bosses are great.

But my god I hate these Mary Jane segments. I just don't get why they keep shoehorning them in it. I preferred it more when it was full on stealth though. Rambo MJ attacking and defeating legions of Hunter soldiers with complete ease while I have to beat the hell out of them with the Spider-Men was just a bit jarring to me.

And I hate to weigh in on the Miles Morales is Spider-Man debate, but I think it's fine that he is when there's not another Spider-Man there. It's awkward having them both call each other Spider-Man, and a bit silly when everyone in universe is just calling Miles "Younger Spider-Man". What's even the point then? Just give him one of the other names they've used for him, and let him be Spider-Man when he's the only one.

I'm not really terribly satisfied plot-wise though. Some stuff is awesome. Kraven is awesome. Peter's stuff is really solid. Loved the Venom stuff. They did a good job taking a ton of modern Venom stuff too. Miles had nothing going on and I'm stunned they didn't have anything substantial to give him for this game. The Martin Li stuff worked, but the rest is... Ehhhhh.

But spoilers.

I have no idea what they're doing with Kraven here. They build him up as some turbo badass, have him kill villains off screen. He's the primary antagonist for much of the game. We're trying to stop Kraven and his Hunters from taking over the city and killing all the supers... and then they just feed him to Venom to make him look even more badass.

Kraven stood out on his own without needing to kill a bunch of villains off screen. What purpose does this serve, exactly? At least show it to us. Just shoddy work there. And then why are we using Kraven just to make Venom look more badass? They did a fine job of it as is. Why not keep Kraven and the Hunters around for a while longer?

Have him at odds with Spider-Man, where Kraven wants his god damn fight with him and is using his Hunters to make his way to Venom. So they have two things to worry about. Then you can have him do his fight after incapacitating the Spider-Men for a while. Have Peter at odds with whether or not to stop Venom and Kraven from killing each other and stopping the Symbiote takeover.

I know they did a similar thing in the first game, where Mr. Negative was the primary antagonist, and then they throw Doc Ock and the Sinister Six in it much later. But the plots at least intertwined. Devil's Breath was a huge part of both stories. Spidey definitively stopped Mr. Negative's plot before a much bigger one appeared with Doc Ock. But in this game the Kraven story just ends abruptly and then immediately launches into the Venom story, and Kraven and his Hunters are complete nonfactors at all and we're just in this giant symbiote takeover. Just feels sloppy. Why make me do all of these Kraven and Hunter side quests if they're all just totally pointless by the time Venom starts taking over everything?

I also didn't love the complete symbiote takeover either. It felt rather sudden and Venom's power was frankly completely outrageous. And I'm sad Venom had personality for literally one moment in this game.

Also a severe lack of villains to fight here. What is it? Kraven, Sandman, Venom, Mr. Negative? With a fun bonus Chameleon deal? Perfect opportunity to give us redux fights with the villains we faced in the last game by trying to stop them but having them get captured by Kraven in the end.

Overall, I'm satisfied. But narratively, it feels like a very solid step down from the first game. I really wish the story was better than it was, even despite having some awesome moments in it. Hoping the DLC is better than the first game's though.

Oh, one other thing I wanted to bring up about The Marvels.

Kamala's powers are so much better than her knock off Mr. Fantastic powers in every way. It's crazy to me that comics fans are wishing she had her old powers. Like nah, hard light stuff is a million times cooler and has a lot more applications and they were right to exchange it in the comics for this (despite it being the dumbest and worst way to do it). I legitimately think she might have caught on even more if she debuted with these powers in the comics, because they look awesome and all of her scenes are so dynamic when she's fighting with them.

Has anyone else checked this out? I was looking forward to it after seeing previews because it looked absolutely bizarre and exactly like something I'd love, and it ended up being that.

The premise is that a couple are hosting an HGTV show where they build up a Mexican American community, and during filming one of the residents curses the husband. It hasn't happened yet, but things will get worse from there for them.

I don't think I've laughed so hard at a show that wasn't telling any jokes at all. This show is just a series of cringe-inducing moments where this bizarre couple is trying their best to get this TV show off the ground with their shitty director, and they're just awful. It isn't the best description, but it just so casually throws out these hilarious moments that just slay me, while also having such an eerie feel to it.

There's one episode out so far, but it's definitely worth watching.

Ayyyy I saw The Marvels. It was a lot of fun! Some thoughts!

So I complained about Captain Marvel from the Captain Marvel movie, and this feels like the first time she's more in line with her comics counterpart and had all the stuff I love about the character. She's headstrong, a bit of a hot head, and determined to do the right thing. She's flawed, and she makes mistakes and that crushes her when it happens. THIS is the Captain Marvel that we needed to have. And I think she would have been far better received if she were like this in her debut. Brie Larson still feels like she's not a great fit for the character, and a couple of her scenes felt a bit rough, but overall she was many times better in this movie.

Ms. Marvel stole the show. Iman Vellani was the best casting they could have done with this character.

Concerning Spectrum (or whatever they want to call Monica now), I think she was also really good in the movie. Her story beats were done well and her actress was great. The only negative is that she didn't end up in the NEXTWAVE universe. Feels bad.

The plot was fine, but the swapping gimmick was fun. Music planet was fun. Just a fun film, and I missed jumping into Marvel movies and just having a fun time with a measured amount of jokes and good action, and this gave it to me. The villain was whatever, but that's what you get when you drag a character who was in like five comics and then make them important. I don't really have a lot to say about the plot.

BUT THEY'RE FINALLY DOING SOMETHING WITH THE YOUNG AVENGERS! Fucking hell, finally. And I am 100% alright with Kate Bishop going "You know I'm 23, right?" Like yeah, okay. I don't have to keep bitching about how they are wasting the idea of the YOUNG Avengers by having them all age out. Call them the Champions. New Avengers. Whatever you have to do. Give me more of this and don't make me wait until Secret Wars (I'll be waiting until Secret Wars).

I do not care about bad CGI Beast, the old X-Men universe, or any of this multiverse shit make it end for the love of god. Get this nostalgia bait the hell away from the MCU and focus on your own shit. Shi'ar are coming from this, so I guess we'll get DEATHBIRD out of it, who is strangely Captain Marvel's longest running archvillain.

But this movie with it's mediocre antagonist makes me so fed up and wanting Moonstone already. I am quickly losing hope she'll be on the Thunderbolts since that movie looks like it's going to suck and isn't taking the fun and interesting concept of it and is instead giving us freaking Secret Avengers (SO CALL IT SECRET AVENGERS). It's just irritating that Moonstone would be awesome in one of these movies and we're passing her up again.

And finally, give me SWORD and give me Abigail Brand already. Abigail Brand would rule in the MCU, especially with all of this space bullshit going on. We need a no-nonsense been over it before it started leader of this space group. Fury is fun, but hand it over to Brand!

Wasn't Ms. Marvel also the least watched of all of them too? Unless Secret Invasion beat it out.

So I decided to watch Captain Marvel again ahead of seeing The Marvels tomorrow. Wanted to talk about it a bit after revisiting it. I'll have Secret Invasion spoilers here too, so don't read the rest of this if you don't want to see them.

Overall, I don't think it was very good. It was fine, but not much more. It felt extremely lacking for many reasons, and should have been a lot better.

I know we all acknowledge the way overboard complaints about Brie Larson by very lame individuals, but man. She is just really bad in this movie and I don't get it. Just completely wooden without any emotions conveyed in any scenes that require them. No comedic chops at all. I hate to rag on her because she's had enough of it, but she's really just not good at all in this film and probably shouldn't have had the role.

The dialogue in this movie doesn't really serve her either. There's some good stuff in there, but there's a lot that's just not funny or it's awkward or it just feels a bit bland and could have used a little spice to make it more interesting. I mentioned earlier I didn't think that Captain Marvel had her personality from the comics, and I'd say that isn't entirely true. Her overall personality isn't there, but there's some parts that are pretty definitively her, but it doesn't really come across as her because Brie Larson just feels so uncomfortable in this role that it doesn't really feel like how I'd imagine a confident Captain Marvel would deliver them. But for the most part, yeah. A lot of this just doesn't feel like the Captain Marvel I love from the comics.

I think the overall story works, to a point. But I think there's a lot better of a story here that they could have told. Having Captain Marvel actually have a threat to face instead of just running around doing spy stuff for most of the movie before doing a surprise super strong curb stomping of everyone, especially with a super Kree team there who could have and should have probably given her a challenge, it all falls flat. Yon-Rogg's final stand is even a punchline too. It's just not very interesting.

I think it's intriguing on a re-watch post-Secret Invasion. Because I had so many questions. Like where did the funny little goblin Skrulls go? What about the giant ones? They're all just regular ass Skrulls in that series, unless I missed something.

Captain Marvel declares that she's going to find the Skrulls a permanent home. After two decades, she doesn't, and the burden was sort of passed on Nick Fury instead. lol

I think making Skrulls good guys was just... pointless, in the end? Like Secret Invasion fucking sucked, we all know that. And the story they told there was just so removed and irrelevant to the rest of the MCU. Skrulls are more interesting as villains, honestly. And it's disappointing we didn't get them or a proper Skrull Invasion. I won't rant about Secret Invasion, I need to stop myself.

It's so weird they just ditched Talos so early in Secret Invasion. He's clearly the most interesting part of this whole Skrull thing and was a highlight of this film. Like he's just charming as hell.

And the reveal of why Nick Fury lost his eye still sucks too.

Those are my Captain Marvel thoughts. From what I'm hearing, some of my complaints about the character and acting are fixed, so I'm looking forward to it more.
