It's legal (ie: codified into law) in the states if Idaho, Wyoming, Minnesota, and Washington.

Additionally, if we want to reduce speeding in urban areas, stop making the roads so wide and straight.

Narrower roads force drivers to slow down because it takes more attention to keep from damaging your tires/rims on the curb. Curves and turns force a driver to pay attention or drive off the road.

Both actually work (see Europe and the Nederlands in particular).

A lot of Americans are in a position where they can't do anything about it without losing their home, especially if they have kids. Same reason why Americans tend to not go on strikes.

All as designed, of course.

Unless you actually do "do something", you'll end up a slave or an indentured servant. And the bare minimum is to vote for someone who is against such ideas, against a party expressing such ideas.

Then you could even go farther... and help choose the candidate who will be on the November ballot but voting in the primary.

Because their entire argument is emotional. Vengeance feels superficially good and is the cheapest virtue signal in the world to say you like when bad thing happen to bad man.

But they don't want to deal with the possibility that this final act of "justice" can never be 100% completely certain so long as we humans are capable of making mistakes and being mistaken.

People want simple answers and they want closure - so it's all emotional and they can retreat to labeling anyone that disagrees as "defending the worst people" or "soft on crime" - more emotional responses that don't address underlying problems.

Even that would be pretty out of reach for now. At less than light speed, even a single light year is a very very far distance. I think I read that with current technology, it would take decades or maybe centuries, to fly 1 light year. Also, we did find an earth size planet in Alpha Centauri, which I think is a light year away. But we haven't even been able to tell if the planet can hold life.
