Consulted the only Switch owner I know. He knows nothing about Crosscode.
Watched some gameplay and I don't really get it. Watched a video of a guy talking it up and I'm still neutral. It's probably pretty good, I just don't get excited about video games nowadays.
Apparently there's a demo. That's good.

How long will the game movie on Youtube be?
I think 7 was about 30 hours long.

I mean if you're not hung up on graphics, indies can be great. Because they're not throwing millions at cutting edge graphics, there's typically more of a focus on gameplay and concepts. Quite a few indie games have been wild successes because they're just such good games.

That said, there's definitely way more of sheer quantity of them so the average quality is lower for that. It's typically better to rely on word of mouth when it comes to them, if you're worried about spending money and getting a dud.

Yeah word of mouth is an issue now. The people I used to play/talk video games with and I all have different tastes nowadays. Seems inevitable, like you play too much/too long and eventually you get too specific about what you like.

That hurts the longevity too. You're limited to talking with randoms who probably just want to talk about the merits of the story and not say anything fun.
Happened with Shovel Knight. I played it, I think it's fine but after beating 3 of 4 campaigns I still have no real opinions or investment in any of it. Nobody talks about it.
I don't wanna just peruse critically acclaimed games, no escapism in that. Has to be captivating or memorable.

Oh yeah they got the TF2 vault where they got tricked into arguing about red or blue or something.
Took me a really long time to even discover that vault the first time.

The Dark Souls 2 guy is up to his old tricks.

Okay I'm out of ideas. Every RPG recommendation video is covering the same few games.
Indies are a plunge I'm hesitant to take.
Fortunately there's still over a week to go.

I always feel like the best thing to do with these is just add a big sprawling arena mode. Doesn't mess with the original game and it adds a bunch of new stuff to keep it going after you think you've seen everything.
That and a NG+ mode where there'd no real restrictions on what party members/items/moves you can have access to at any point would be good enough, wouldn't it?

Are they going to change his depiction in that video game?
He could try to inhale the player's money, Kirby style.

My hottest take is that the mainline titles should get console releases.

I've tried playing these with controllers and also an arcade stick one time. Kinda funny but didn't feel great.
They made it to Steam though, maybe one day.

There was also that little Death Waltz stint too. I actually knew somebody in real life who recognized the song as "Death Waltz" when I played it on piano but not its actual origin.
Native Faith is pretty good too, I think the piano is one of the best parts about Touhou songs, particularly the earlier ones. Speaking of piano, Reimu's main theme, Maiden's Capriccio is one of the premier examples. I didn't really like Wind God Girl, Aya's theme from Touhou 9 in the game but the full version from one of the music albums is so much better due to the long piano solo after the "game" part was done.

When I was really into the games, whenever I found a song I liked I'd immediately go see if any of the usual suspects had made a good metal/rock version. There used to be a guy on Youtube who would upload multi-hour compilations of arranges for each Touhou 10-12 character and stage. It disappeared at some point. Some of those were peak comfort and it was a great way to find rare arranges.
Maiden's Capriccio was one of those songs where for some reason it was always really difficult to find a lot of versions of it I liked. Something about it made people want to experiment and go crazy I guess.

Oh, I absolutely like them as characters. They're pretty fun in the official mangas that I've seen too. I just think it's way more interesting when having multiple characters. Touhou 5 was multiple characters all the way since PC-98 days. Reimu and Marisa is basically the difference between reliability and power. Although ever since Reimu lost her smaller hitbox in TH16 and up it seems Marisa is actually the more rounded and reliable choice.

That smaller hitbox was there for a long time, taking it away just seems wrong. Reimu is still the default until the homing shots are taken away. If that happens then I have no idea what ZUN's doing.

Oh for some reason I thought you'd recognize the abbreviations more than the numbers. Yeah, I think the numbers would be easier to remember from now on. The follow ups are even better I believe. The characters get more moves and the portraits are drawn by Forbidden Scrollery's decent art instead of 13.5's weird portraits. Yeah, Kokoro's music is pretty good. I like it more than the previous two fighter bosses, Suika, and Tenshi's.

I liked Tenshi's more than the other two. That was another song that was hard to find good arranges of. Which is kind of messed up because even though it's a side game, it's still a final boss theme.

I think most of TD's stage theme is seen as better than the boss. Stage 5 is also much nicer to listen to than Futo's theme (which isn't that good, I think the remixes in the fighters are much better). Kyouko also has one of the blandest boss themes in the series. Miko and Mamizou are the exception.

Outside of those games, Shanghai Teahouse and Mystic Oriental Dream seem to be more iconic than their respective boss themes as well, the latter is most notable since Youmu is one of the most popular characters so it's interesting how her stage theme is the one that she's most associated with. Especially since Nitori still uses her boss theme in the fighting games.
Also Clownpiece's stage 5 theme and Unlocated Hell, the stage 4 theme of Touhou 17 are much better than the boss theme too.

Every now and then I see people try to put Byakuren down with these. Like sure Fires of Hokkai is different and some people like that but did they even hear the final boss theme it's competing with?

Orin kind of has this. Her stage theme is a lot more distinct at least. Maybe Yuugi earlier in 11 as well?
Aya's a weird case. See I think her stage theme in 10 stomps her boss theme (Which isn't even bad) but then she technically has a bunch of other themes in different games and spinoffs making up for it.

I think Keine's far and away the most severe case though. Old World might be the best song in that game meanwhile I struggle to remember what Plain Asia sounds like. And then she's in the extra stage so it's like she has a whole other stage theme for good measure.

Nowadays they can only respond to things with bruh and based.

Things have only gotten worse since though.
8th gen had nothing good. Slot machines, rereleases and interactive movies took over, gameplay went in the dumpster forever. Most people were very happy about this and because of that, there is no hope.
9th gen is replicating 8th. Cool.

Late 00s online was fun at least even if the games were going downhill. 7th gen wasn't too bad. From where we are, it looks nice.

I don't like 3D Culex. The way he only talks about things being 2D and 3D feels way too similar to Toads constantly making paper references. I was kind of hoping he'd say something about his homeland (Not a lot, just a vague line or two after decades of knowing nothing) but it's just him being meta the whole time.

Mallow and Geno look normal but the more I see the weird out of place looking Mario, Peach and Bowser, the worse it gets.

So did Armored Core 6 end up being a bunch of nothing?

I like the CD-i games more than any of the mainline games.
Gameplay wise I'm not crazy about any of them.
But the CD-i ones have been consistently entertaining for a long time now.

Watching 3D Culex
Is there a reason the guy playing is just sitting on a 100% super meter and not using the move? It says there's buffs for using certain party combos, are those only active if you have the super meter full?
Culex casts meteor in this one and can disable buttons like Bowyer.

Leech Seed should be an entry hazard.
Drains any non-grass types until either a grass type comes in or a rapid spinner removes it.

No.
One of the videos is 33 seconds. In X4-6 Zero can do this trick where he just mashes dash and attack and does way more damage the normal combos.

Gen 8. Was waiting for enough good games to justify buying a console. Never happened.

I too am pre-emptively bored by this.

Visited the store again the other day. 2 visits in 3 days. I was hoping they'd have some different games in since it's a weekend. Predictably, very little changed.

For some reason I thought FFXII Zodiac would be an easy game to find physical. Dark Souls Remastered as well. Even if I do find them, the prices will probably be laughable.

I didn't actually catch the show live, more like I'd watch the highlights and read about what was happening.

I dropped it like a rock, just to see what it'd be like without it. I haven't missed it at all.
It was meant to be one of those dumb pointless things to look up whenever I was bored. The fact I'm so unfazed by its absence still bugs me though.
Even worse, there were a lot of times I'd have a choice between video games or wrestling and wrestling would easily win. What does that say about video games?

In hindsight, the fun parts about following wrestling really were too few and far between.
Probably why it feels like more people naturally lose interest over time instead of drawing the line and actively trying to quit.
