AI is unleashing decades worth of new ideas that people weren't creative enough to draw themselves.

AI has had no effect on people's creativity. It's just that when the ideas for what you typically see in AI art popped into our heads, those of us with creative talent always had to ask ourselves if it was actually worth our time and effort to produce it. The answer was almost universally 'no.'

I wonder how they're gonna reconcile the adults not having these other emotions in the first one.

It's a big stretch, but it could be that since the movie is largely Riley's POV, she (and by extension the viewer) can only perceive others as having her own limited range of 5 emotions.

Reminds me of a great old joke about a rabbi getting the mother of all nitpicky tax audits.

Auditor: "So, what do you do with all the candle drippings?"
Rabbi: "Well, we send them back to the candle factory, and when they have enough, they send us back a free box of candles."
Auditor: "So, what do you do with all the matzo crumbs?"
Rabbi: "Well, we send those off to the matzo factory, and when they have enough, they send us back a free box of matzo balls."
Auditor: "Alright then...what do you do with all the foreskins?"
Rabbi: "Well, we send those off to the IRS, and when they have enough, they send us back a little prick like you."

It's weird to see actual deaths come about because of the ghost's arrival. They kinda shied away from that in the previous films and this one is like, "People fuckin' froze to death!"

I just hope the villain is anyone but Gozer. They are way too dependent on him/her/them.

I get the vibe that they're going to veer even harder into the Stranger Things-esque comedy / horror blend than they did in Afterlife. Which to me is fine, even if it reeks of 'that's what's popular now;' I like the new cast, but I don't think they can carry a pure comedy on their own, let alone one on the level of the OG Ghostbusters. As long as it's at least something fresher than Afterlife's nostalgia-fest, I'll consider it a marked improvement.

For the record, I didn't hate Afterlife; I liked parts of it, and saw there was potential for better movies in this framework. When given the choice between having my fandom shamelessly fellated (Afterlife) or aggressively shat upon (Ghostbusters 2016), I'm probably gonna lean towards the former.

Not for nothing, but I can pinpoint the exact moment I knew I liked TO:R more than FFT, and that was when (Big Tactics Ogre: Reborn spoilers) Vyce gets executed in the Chaotic path. I've always hated Delita, I especially hated TO's 'Delita-but-smarmier' version of the archetype, and I was so pleasantly surprised and overjoyed when he got exactly what was coming to him for playing the game of thrones as far over his own head as he did. And of course the cherry on top is that he comes back as a random zombie during Cressida's big rescue mission, just in case you thought his pan-the-camera-away death scene left any ambiguity.

When's the last time a movie came out that was not a sequel, remake, reboot, continuation, or contain some semblance of the phrase, "based on true events?"

Creativity is dead. It's easier to just repackage old shit for nostalgia over actually creating new stories. People will watch it regardless.

Today I learned that pillars of auteur-driven 70's filmmaking such as Dog Day Afternoon (based on true events) and Apocalypse Now (remake of Heart of Darkness) were creatively bankrupt.

The middle two eps of the season almost killed my interest. I think Renslayer as a character became a complete waste of time after her S1 arc was over, and my reaction to her getting unceremoniously pruned towards the end of ep 4 was just "yep, that's fitting." Plus at some point I was watching these two (two and a half?) factions fighting over who got to have the honors of flipping the switch on the big sci-fi contraption, and it dawned on me that "holy shit this is just Fallout 3's water purifier plot all over again;" I almost nope'd hard out of the show at that point.

Ep 5 has me interested again, though. It was some nice character-building, and it finally resolved the primary nagging question I've had this entire season, which was 'seriously, why does Loki suddenly give this much of a shit about the TVA and protecting lives?" It wasn't a particularly profound motivation reveal, but it was sweet nonetheless.
