I see what you mean in general but this sentence is fine. They're only making 50 of this edition of these statues, so the edition size is 50. If you were to buy one it would be numbered 37/50 or whatever.

The Vagrant (Steam)

I dunno, this game kinda sucks honestly. The writing is bad and has weird formatting issues, character designs... bad (rest of the game is pretty though), music unexceptional, difficulty very uneven, combat is mashy. It's also tagged on Steam as a metroidvania but it's not any more of one than, like, River City Girls, and arguably less than that. I think I paid a dollar for it though so it's fine.

Definitely genre

After that: publisher/developer might stop me from buying a game, but I might still play it if I got it for free, while being too long won't stop me from buying the game but definitely makes me procrastinate on playing it. And if a multiplayer game is online multi only that's a complete deal breaker. So I guess one of those is my back up answer.

Kenri
08/21/23 7:51:05 PM

Yes, especially if the reason I can't beat it is just high difficulty. For example, I loved Necrodancer and would recommend it but that game destroyed me. I think story is an interesting case because certain story turns can kill a game for me but I might still recommend it for others, or conditionally.

It's also easy for a game to be good for reasons other than the story mode, especially with e.g. fighting or FPS games, but that doesn't feel exactly in the spirit of the question.

Would they even need to find a new VA right away for Mario and the other characters? Surely with all the years of recordings, they could get by with re-using old voice lines for these characters because it's not like the Mario series is known for its characters having fully voiced dialogue.
My understanding is that this is not best practices for voice acting. They could probably get away with it in Mario without it sounding too terrible, but typically it sounds incredibly strange even in cases where you'd think it wouldn't matter (for example, there was one Simpsons episode where they had to reuse one of Homer's screams -- and even though it's just a contextless scream, it sounds incredibly out of place and "fake", even to fans who don't know it was reused).

GRIME (Steam)

A pretty good Souls-like metroidvania. This game really really wants to be Dark Souls in a way that's, like, slightly embarrassing. Even the menu UI is extremely similar to Dark Souls. The story is also standard Dark Souls fare which is a little unfortunate because the ideas and setting are extremely original and interesting, but the way it's told is a pretty middling execution of the typical silent protag, cryptic dialogue, tidbits of lore, etc.

The ending situation is also pretty dire. The ending where you get the smallest morsel of character development and DON'T destroy civilization is the bad ending?? the achievement for that one kinda insults you?? bizarrely sour ending note. I went back and did the other one and it's a much more complete ending but really undermines the game's plot so idk.

This is a hard game and for the most part it's fair, but the further you get the more the jank really gets noticeable. Grime also wants to be Hollow Knight, but it just does not have the flawless controls or the clean aesthetic of that game, so you end up dying a lot because you can't tell what's going on or finagle the controls to do what you want. There's a lot of weirdness to the controls you'll just have to get used to, also, like how attacking interacts with the double jump (some weapons just won't let you attack a second time in midair even after a double jump, which is like... metroidvania heresy or something), or how hovering is mapped to pointing RS in any direction. A lot of other complaints I might have had seem to have been fixed in the post-launch patches/free DLCs, so that's good. Definitely the right time to play this if you haven't before.

I did pretty much everything that didn't involve NG+ or a world-spanning fetchquest to get every single weapon and armor for pointless achievements. Despite my complaints I enjoyed Grime a lot and I'm interested to see what Clover Bite does next.

Pokmon TCG - Oh hey I finally got a master medal. Tonight I beat rock club member Ryan, rock club master Gene, and grass club member Brittany. Brittany was quite easy by comparison.

I went 6-1 against Gene and I barely lost my Nidorino before immediately finishing him off with Kingler. At one point in these battles Rhyhorns leer prevented me from attacking eight out of 10 times thanks to the damn coin. That battle shouldve ended more quickly no doubt.

Building a deck is kinda fun but they really shouldve allowed you to use a card in multiple decks. That is legit annoying. Its not like you can switch decks mid-battle or something.

Im going to try to pick up the pace with this game a bit.

Master medals won: 1
Album: 96/226
Play time: 3:12
My memory of this game is that the difficulty curve is kinda pathetic. Once your deck is good enough to beat one gym you'll pretty quickly snowball into making the rest of the game a joke. Haven't played this in legitimately 20+ years though so I could be remembering wrong!

The funny thing about Spirit of Justice is that its pacing actually does recover in the final case. The first four cases are paced horribly IMO but the final one is actually two cases so it feels pretty breezy compared to the rest of the game.

AAI1 and Dual Destinies aren't exactly short games but they're only a few hours longer than, say, AA3. And it's important to keep in mind that part of what makes AA2 and AJ short is that they only have four cases. Per case Dual Destinies isn't much longer than AJ.

Spirit of Justice (and, seemingly, Investigations 2) just go off the deep end.

I just did the first investigation of case 3 but the game's pacing is killing me.

Case 1 was interesting but dragged near the end.

Case 2 dragged the entire way through and it didn't help that everyone was being extra incompetent. Definitely Edgeworth at his dumbest. Also the premise was sooo stupid. Just kind of a disaster of a case all around.

I'm liking case 3 so far but god I hope the pacing improves.
