luigi13579 11/23/17 6:25:17 AM #5 | It does seem a bit like half a game, but there's plenty of great gameplay in there, and a detailed world to explore. I'd say it's easily worth it if you like the other games. Also, it's deceptively difficult to run. Even a GTX 1070 won't max it out at an acceptable framerate. Although that probably includes some "future-proof" settings similar to The Witcher 2's ubersampling. You could always get a refund I suppose. |

It's not a free market when the established ISPs can block new entrants into the market (even more so with the removal of net neutrality). Even fucking Google had trouble with Google Fiber (as ISPs stopped them from gaining access to utility poles). If they had trouble, what kind of trouble must small startup ISPs have? |

luigi13579 11/22/17 2:22:09 PM #24 | The Title II regulations were brought in as a result of ISPs throttling users in the first place. The FCC tried to impose net neutrality without Title II, ISPs fought it, and the FCC responded with Title II regs. That also proves that ISPs are talking shit when they say they want a net neutrality solution without Title II, as they were the ones that fought it. |

luigi13579 11/21/17 3:07:05 PM #15 | Morrowind is a bit like this (currently doing yet another playthrough). Well, aside from the "no quests" part, although Morrowind's quests are relatively permissive in terms of how you tackle them. There are fast travel links that make sense between the populated areas (silt striders, boats, Mages Guild teleportation, etc.), but once you go out into the wilderness, you are encouraged to explore. There are no map markers (aside from ones you place yourself). Instead, you follow directions that are given to you, meaning you have to pay attention to your surroundings and use landmarks to determine where you are. Also, the game comes with a physical map (which is amazing) that the devs wanted you to use (http://www.imaginaryatlas.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/MORROWIND-MAP.jpg). I wish more games did that. |

Topic | The FCC unveils its plan to repeal its net neutrality rules |
luigi13579 11/21/17 2:42:05 PM #38 | To be honest, I think the focus on charts like the above is to ignore many of the wider issues around net neutrality. For example, ISPs won't just be able to charge you more, but they'll be able to modify speeds and even modify the data in transit. On speeds, this will allow them to favor their own services over their competitors and to essentially freeze out new entrants to the market who can't afford to pay for preferential speeds. Even a small difference in speeds affects the sites people go to. On the data itself, this allows them to add trackers, spyware, etc. and potentially remove certain layers of encryption, making the internet less safe to use. There's also the issue of the infrastructure that ISPs control (e.g. pole attachment), where they can prevent new ISPs from entering the market. For all the talk of competition being all that's required (rather than regulation), well, there ain't gonna be much. I'm probably sounding like a broken record here lol. |

luigi13579 11/21/17 2:23:27 PM #32 | LIsJustice posted... Elder Scrolls VI tbh. I'm not too hopeful about that one given the direction of their open world RPGs since Morrowind. For me personally, they've abandoned a lot of what made the games great. Admittedly, they've made improvements to the graphics and combat (although the franchise has never excelled at that) and added some nice features like NPC schedules, but as far as I'm concerned, those things don't outweigh the backward steps they've made. The amount of features they've stripped out, the bland settings, the lack of freedom (e.g. in how you tackle quests and advance through factions) and focus on shoving their "awesome" content down your throat, the underwhelming faction questlines, etc. It'll be an alright game I'm sure, but I just can't see it blowing my socks off. I'll be pleasantly surprised if it does. They can start by going for a more interesting setting, like the Summerset Isles. |

Topic | So is the end of net neutrality going to kill the internet? |
luigi13579 11/20/17 6:28:40 PM #7 | It won't kill the internet or anything, but it'll potentially make it more expensive, harder for new players to compete with the established ones (as the latter will be able to pay for preferential speeds) or with the ISPs' own services and harder for new ISPs to enter the market (e.g. see pole attachment rights), allow ISPs to modify traffic (to add trackers, spyware, ads and other data or even to remove encryption in some cases), etc. |
Topic | Do you think we're going to wake up one day and the internet will be 100x slower |
luigi13579 11/20/17 6:15:05 PM #13 | Ignoring the obviously false premise... Essentially, this would give ISPs the power not just to discriminate against certain types of data (in terms of speed, price, etc.), but also to bundle all sorts of other shit in with your data (tracking cookies, malware, etc.) without any recourse, among other things. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2017/03/five-ways-cybersecurity-will-suffer-if-congress-repeals-fcc-privacy-rules Even focusing just on speeds, ISPs wouldn't just decrease speeds across the board (although that would be in their power). They'd be able to favor their own services at the expense of others, slowing some down (even small differences in speed have been shown to push users away from certain sites and to others). They'd be able to offer different tiers of service, like the famous example above. There are other things they'll be able to do beyond that, as mentioned above. |

With the Mew glitch, you walk towards a trainer who is off screen and in line with you until they notice you, press start, use Teleport/Dig/Escape Rope/etc., then encounter another trainer. Then you go back to the area with the first trainer and an encounter will trigger depending on the last Pokemon you saw. Certain Pokemon will trigger an encounter with Oak. |

The game's age isn't an excuse for many of the issues it had. I can appreciate it missing features that the modern games have, but that's not all we're talking about here. There are so many things that are broken or stupid in the game that you're probably better off listing the things that do work properly. Topic | RDR2 or Cyberpunk 2077... not sure which one I'm hyped for more... |
luigi13579 11/19/17 12:02:39 PM #17 | Definitely 2077, as I'm a big fan of cyberpunk settings. I can't really say the same about wild west settings. RPGs are my favorite games too, especially when they contain branching storylines, well-written dialogue, unique character classes (as 2077 will, going by the source material and info out there), etc. I think 2077 will likely tick most or all of these boxes. CDPR + Mike Pondsmith are the dream team also. Admittedly, as great as The Witcher 3 is, there are a few things about it that I'm not a huge fan of. However, they're not down to a lack of talent from the devs (they have that in abundance), but rather the type of game that TW3 is. I think that 2077 will rectify many of these things. For example, it'll have character classes / a customizable character rather than a fixed one, which I prefer for this type of game. It'll also have a different setting, not just a cyberpunk one, but a city one, so hopefully the world will be denser. |

luigi13579 11/18/17 1:25:28 PM #12 | Yep, it's a top-down 2D RPG. Presumably you're meaning ones that don't have a world map, but one large world (with some transitions). So that would discount games like the 2D Final Fantasies. The Mother games (Mother, EarthBound and Mother 3) are like that. Secret of Mana, Seiken Densetsu 3, etc. are also (if you count games with real-time combat). And I think the Quintet trilogy too. And Star Ocean. To be honest, most games I can think of like that have real-time combat similar to Zelda's. |
