...somebody who hits somebody else's Jeep with a baton, then gets threatened and shot at? Granted, that's obviously an excessive response in the eyes of the law, no doubt there, but is the media serious with this?...

It's a little murky but yeah, there's certainly an element of bias there. In general, if you're being attacked, you're certainly within your rights to threaten with a legal weapon. However, if the person desists or surrenders, you're clearly in the wrong to shoot at them. Both participants should be charged with crimes, even though the shooter didn't initiate the violence.

And, if you're shooting in a public area with non-involved civilians around, reckless endangerment should be on the table.

You are responsible for the bullet that is discharged, legally, even if fired in self defense. If it hit an innocent by stander then yes, you are responsible. But simply discharging a weapon when your life is in danger (hypothetically, not in this story) is not considered endangerment. Also, personally, I was taught to always know what's behind your target, as in, drop the ground and fire up if you have to (there are still risks involved in this, but it is better than going straight through, or missing in a direct line). Also, always carry hollowpoints. It isn't foolproof, and missed slugs still carry a lot of risk, but the impacted ones should do more damage to target and less penetration.

If I was in that situation, I would have drawn the firearm and warned him to drop the baton and keep his hands in the air. If he complied, the police can handle it. If he approached me (or a loved one) aggressively with the baton or made a sudden movement towards his waistband or pocket, I would have fired.

I prefer dark beers as well.

My favorite mass produced beer is Guinness, but I always like to try something new. Micro, macro, craft, whatever. Imperial Stouts are great like you mentioned, although they tend to be up there in ABV% for beer... which is a good and bad thing.

Not that Wiki is the best source but:

A semi-automatic pistol is a type of pistol that is semiautomatic, meaning it uses the energy of the fired cartridge to cycle the action of the firearm and advance the next available cartridge into position for firing. One cartridge is fired each time the trigger of a semi-automatic pistol is pulled; the pistol's "disconnector" ensures this behavior.

Additional terms sometimes used as synonyms for a semi-automatic pistol are automatic pistol, self-loading pistol, autopistol, and autoloading pistol.

A semi-automatic pistol harnesses the energy of one shot to reload the chamber for the next. After a round is fired, the spent casing is ejected and a new round from the magazine is loaded into the chamber, allowing another shot to be fired as soon as the trigger is pulled again. Most pistols use recoil operation to do this, but some pistols use blowback or gas operation.

Revolvers simply rotate a center chamber by having it connected to the trigger pull. There is nothing automated or "semi-automated" involving feeding, ejecting, extracting or anything else.

Also, semi-automatics (and automatics) automatically cock the hammer back between rounds, which is something that doesn't happen with a revolver of any kind (which aids in combat because you are in single-action mode for the rest of the "fight".)

Nope. Semi-automatic and automatic refer to the feeding mechanism between rounds discharged, not the trigger action. While you can accomplish the same firing speed, more or less with a double action, rotating individual chambers is different from a spring using the energy of the last shot when the slide moves to make room for the next spring fed round round. Revolvers are classified differently from "semi automatic" handguns (and shotguns/rifles/carbines etc.)

99% of all handguns are semi-automatic. The only exceptions are revolvers (double or single action) and something strange like a barrel loading pistol or an automatic pistol (which, I think technically makes it an SMG, although Glock had an automatic pistol and I'm not sure if that qualifies as an SMG.) And it makes sense to be able to get insurance for legal costs involved in self defense. Self defense =/= murder, sorry. It's justifiable homicide.

I was going to say what Kyuubi4269 did. The cooling systems can still run, based on feedback from the coolant temperature sensor (and oil temperature sensor if that car has one), which could include a fan or water pump (if electric, the water pump will not work if belt based obviously because the engine isn't spinning it.)

My guess would straight up be something involving a fan.

Is Archer really "long running"? I don't consider a show with 3 seasons or something to be in the same category as The Simpsons.

Archer and Bobs Burgers have 8 each

Oddly enough, isnt Bob Burgers a spin off of Archer?

I didn't know Archer OR Bob's Burgers had that many. Interesting.

But, I think Bob's Burgers just has the same voice actor because Jon Benjamin is amazing (mostly a fan from Home Movies), I don't think the show itself is related in anyway, though?

Futurama. South Park is good too, because Matt and Trey are usually making really intelligent jokes or points that go right over the average viewers head because they are disguised as dick and fart jokes.

I don't see anything wrong with Family Guy, in small usages it's a hilarious show to go to sleep to. But I prefer the older episodes when it was just mindless funny... trying too hard to be serious in Family Guy ends up not working well.

The wording confused me at first, since the phrase can also mean have a gun pointed at you.

Sorry, I should have worded that a little better. Shooting to wound is legally impossible, not to mention extremely difficult (leg shots can kill someone faster than a lung shot because of major arteries), because 1. Discharging a firearm is considered "lethal force." There is no middle ground, legally, for the discharge of a firearm. 2. If you were shooting at center mass to stop the threat (no intention of kill or not kill, just firing until the threat stopped), trained cops and soldiers still miss over half of their bullets in combat. I can't imagine a regular person, that isn't some kind of SEAL or Green Beret, landing some kind of skilled "maim" shot in a life or death situation. Just my thoughts on it.

I understand your moral point of it, though.

Weight lifting, partially combined with boxing when I was younger, especially. It ends up being a mix of cardio and weight lifting, because you have to be fluid and high stamina when sparring and stuff.

Firearms, collecting them, cleaning them, modifying/upgrading them, and of course shooting them. I own them for self-defense reasons, but there is plenty of fun to be had beyond training at the range... for example shooting clay pigeons (trap shooting) with a 12 gauge shotgun (or if you have a lot of skill, something smaller like a .410 shotgun.)

Cars, I love working on them, racing them... I'd say collecting them but that takes a lot more money than the above hobby. I go the track when I can, but I'm guilty of occasionally picking on ricers in the street. I love turning a wrench over a beer with a buddy.

Computers, I don't know if this counts as video games, but I love the hardware part, too. It's like working on a car, just smaller screws. I've helped quite a few buddies build their gaming PC for them; sometimes really fun builds like custom liquid cooling loops and such.

Drinking, if that counts as a hobby. I like trying new micro brews (or new beers in general). I'll drink anything, really, I just prefer darker beers. I drank Bud Lite with Kim Coates and Theo Rossi (Tig Trager and Juice Ortiz from Sons of Anarchy), but that's because that was the only beer the Harley dealership was offering. I didn't go "man, I'd rather have a Bud Lite than a Guinness right now". Heh. But my relationship with alcohol is strange. I like to drink to have fun with friends, I don't like drinking when I'm sad. One of the reasons I haven't had anything to drink in a while.

I haven't really been involved in ANY of the above hobbies since the passing of my wife... Including video games...

Theres way too many possible variables to answer this, but Ill try to condense it into three scenarios.

Im armed, assailant is unarmed - Id use the weapon as leverage and try to threaten them to stop. Most reasonable people would back down at the sight of a gun.

Im armed, assailant is armed - Id shoot first, providing I had a clear shot and an innocent person wouldnt get caught in the crossfire.

Im armed, assailant is unarmed and not responding to threats or pressure to stop - Id shoot. Again, providing I had a clear shot.

But really, anything can happen with multiple people involved and adrenaline is pumping. Who knows?

That all seems fairly rational and reasonable.

Say, your life was on the line, or someone you loved... and you had a gun on you... would you be able to pull the trigger? There is a huge mental gap you cross to willingly kill somebody else, even in self defense. Even soldiers that killed only "bad guys" still end up with terrible PTSD and things like that.

I've never had to actually squeeze the trigger, thank God, but I always wondered if I could actually pull it when the time comes... and I'm pretty convinced that I could. I have had to brandish a firearm in self defense on more than one occasion (they ran, you cannot shoot if they run, and you SHOULDN'T shoot if they run, because you should only fire to save a life, never to take one), and I went completely numb to all thoughts (almost like the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan when he goes deaf) and my brain became a robotic feedback cycle of "Q. DO I SQUEEZE THE TRIGGER? A. NO I CAN STILL SEE HIS HANDS. Q. DO I SQUEEZE THE TRIGGER? A. NO I CAN STILL SEE HIS HANDS. Q. DO I SQUEEZE THE TRIGGER? A. NO I CAN STILL SEE HIS HANDS." nonstop in half second loops until the guy made a split for it. I had zero emotional hangups on squeezing the trigger in that moment of adrenaline and protection of my (now late) wife, but in a calm setting sitting down and talking to you guys about it is completely different from being in the moment.

I'll tell you what, logically, I'd rather need therapy for taking a life and have the person I'm protecting be alive then vice versa. Also, I don't think you should own or carry a gun if you don't think you are capable of using it. Well, you can own a gun for hunting/target shooting/hobby without being able to fire in self defense, but you should not BRANDISH a weapon in self defense if you can't go through with pulling the trigger. It is not a stale mate or argument winner, it is only there because "if I don't pull the trigger me or someone else is going to die" and nothing else. That's my view, anyways.

Also, I guess this is a verbal poll, because I have no idea how to make one...
