If their planet is even just a 10000 LY away, it is really almost impossible to travel effectively unless they have something like generation ship or suspended animation.

Agreed. Joints use a lot and a fair amount of just goes up in smoke, and not in your lungs. When you live in a state where it isn't legal, you have to call people, make sure they have some, go there, hang out for a bit. I also don't live in a big city, so delivery is pretty rare and always taxed. Would be nice to be able to just go get some. Not much chance of it happening in Wisconsin any time soon.
