That awful, awful Batman arc wraps up this week. It's amazing just how bad it manages to be on every level. And just after Booster Gold had such a good showing in Action Comics. <_<

Meanwhile, the Power Rangers "Shattered Grid" story is still great.

I'm not sure if posts complaining about Disney's owning/ruining of that one silly scifi franchise and then saying that they're still buying tickets to the next one are meant to be ironic/parody of those nerds you see on TV, or are 100% sincere.

For me personally, it's the sunk cost fallacy. I was disappointed in 7, but was willing to give 8 a shot since it wasted so much time setting everything up.

8 trashed most of 7s setup and was generally awful, but at this point there's only one more movie so I may as well just see how it ends. At the very least if it sucks like the first two I can know what it is I'm complaining about.

After IX I'm checking out.

I agreed with this too but the article posted makes a good point. The Ancient One couldnt see past her own death in Dr Strange. So how would Strange know the endgame? >_>

It's been a while since I watched Dr. Strange though. Did the Ancient One say she used the time stone or was it some other magic she used to see the future?

I actually just read 1Q84 this year. It was great, but really fucking weird.

Almost every chapter added some new, interesting twist on what came before. And there are a lot of small details that make you wonder what's going on if you pay attention.

Like how Fuka-Eri is explicitly stated to ask questions "without a question mark" and then, many chapters later, uses a question mark after a weird plot development. It's never addressed in the story, leaving the reader to interpret what it means

1) Make Rey more important. Ironic, I know. Make the Mary Sue more important, but hear me out.

VII was called "The Force Awakens". That Awakening was acknowledged by a character in the film. Rey herself is surprised by her sudden leap in abilities. It's obvious she's a plot device in the vein of Anakin here, so use it.

Ditch the Starkiller Base from VII, and make it character based. Fleshing out Rey more, and make the main conflict being Han's journey to confront his son and the First Order trying to take Rey.

2) Make Starkiller Base the end game. They blew their hand too early with this. Introduce the concept of Star Killer base in VII, sure, but its not finished yet. Save that retread for VIII or IX. So theres a sense of urgency and lingering dread over the character-based stories. It also will help emphasize that the First Order isnt working with the same resources as the Empire, as they struggle to get it operational.

3) Make VIII about trying to sabotage Starkiller. The chase plot was dumb. Not in concept, but execution. If they kept Starkiller Base around, now the Resistance has a motivation to be pro-active. They want to blow up a factory or a lab or some other critical piece of its development. Or maybe kidnapping a First Order engineer in a reverse-rogue one.

Rian Johnson can keep his "it's a movie about failure" but you wont need a boring premise and contrived, stupid characters to make those failures happen. The Resistance can be pro-active, failing because the mission fell apart at a critical juncture rather than because "wow, we just really suck at our jobs"

That failure would directly lead to the acctivation of Star Killer base. So then there would also be consequences for that failure.

4) Have Luke go out like a champ. Not a punk.

Death by hologram is stupid. Even stupider knowing that this was the last time We'll ever see Hamill reprise the role, and all he did was act crotchety and die.

You can keep his main story beats, but ditch the hologram angle.

As the Resistance is getting slaughtered, he shows up in person, using every bit of his force powers to defend them. He doesn't have to fight with his "laser sword", and you can keep the dodge-fight with Kylo. But I want to see Luke freeze every single ATAT bolt in the air the way Kylo did with just one blaster bolt. I want to see a massive piece of debris floating inches above Finn because Luke won't let it crush him.

I want to see Luke single handedly tank that super laser drill they were worried about. He doesn't lift a finger to strike the FO, maintaining his message, but now he looks like a badass doing it, and we as the audience can tangibly feel how much energy he spent and why he just disappears into the force, rather than a glorified long-distance call.

On this note. I find it ironic that this is the motivation of the villain. The motivation we, the audience are supposed to root against. (Presumably, considering he gets made into a clown in the climactic stand-off

But for some odd reason critical fans are wrong for being upset at how crappy they've handled the passing of the torch. Though to be fair, Han Solo passing the torch would have been good if he and Rey had any natural chemistry, rather than being instantly impressed and amazed at how perfect she was at everything.

Like, really, there was a great story there. But the Dynamic between them felt so forced. >_>

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/ct-malaysia-airlines-flight-20180514-story.html

Excerpt below. tl;dr: They think the pilot was committing suicide.

That is the chilling theory that the team of analysts assembled by Australia's "60 Minutes" have posited about the final hours of MH370.

They suspect that the plane's 2014 disappearance and apparent crash was a suicide by the 53-year-old Zaharie - and a premeditated act of mass murder.

But first, the experts said, they believe Zaharie depressurized the plane, knocking out anyone aboard who wasn't wearing an oxygen mask. That would explain the silence from the plane as it veered wildly off course: no mayday from the craft's radio, no final goodbye texts, no attempted emergency calls that failed to connect.

That would also explain how whoever was in control had time to maneuver the plane to its final location.

The wreckage has not been found, though hundreds of millions of dollars have gone into the four-year search. The secret of what happened in the final moments of the ill-fated flight - and the motive behind it all - probably died with its passengers and pilot.

But the "60 Minutes" team - which included aviation specialists, the former Australian Transport Safety Bureau chief in charge of investigating MH370's crash and an oceanographer - put forth what they believe is the most likely theory.

"The thing that gets discussed the most is that at the point where the pilot turned the transponder off, that he depressurized the airplane, which would disable the passengers," said Larry Vance, a veteran aircraft investigator from Canada. "He was killing himself. Unfortunately, he was killing everyone else onboard. And he did it deliberately."

Zaharie's suspected suicide might explain an oddity about the plane's final flight path: that unexpected turn to the left.

"Captain Zaharie dipped his wing to see Penang, his home town," Simon Hardy, a Boeing 777 senior pilot and instructor, said on "60 Minutes."

Nah brah. It's psychological. Marriage, inherently, is intended to be a lifelong commitment. Going into it with a prenup is setting up a psychological backdoor so that if things go wrong, you have an easy "abort" button.

What's stupid is this incredibly cynical view towards relationships that if two people want to go into a romantic commitment without one, that they are stupid.

Having faith and love in your partner and a mutual agreement to work out the worst of circumstances together is stupid. And that's a tragedy.

Check their stats. Check their weaknesses/resistances. Check what moves they can inherit. You can do all this in the Velvet Room during execution.

You can buy old personas from the compendium.

What personas fuse into what, and the situations they are good in, is mostly just experience and trial and error. Hey, this dungeon has a lot of strong physical shadows without many elemental weaknesses. Take a Persona that knows a lot of debuff skills. Hey, this dungeon has wild encounters with a lot of death skill users. Better bring somebody in with null-death.
