well, there are a LOT of other gun owners around the world. I personally know a few Australians who donate to the NRA.

not that it would surprise me if they are involved in some shady shit.

the whole thing with blaming the AR15 specifically and trying to ban it is the most idiotic thing any one can do to try to get a point across and only shows the shear ignorance of the situation and item. this might fly with a country with very little gun culture and ownership (and authoritarian laws), but it wont in one with 100+ million firearm owners, probably 10%+ who specifically own an AR.

so you ban the AR, great now what do you do about about all those other semi-automatics out there that can easily replace it or even still have the manufacturers tweak the design and label it something else?

at least be consistent with your agenda. but of course the agenda isnt he AR. no, most could give a shit about that, the agenda goes further than that, but the only way to get to that far is tiny piece at a time.

ITP: "hey guys, these gun deaths don't count as gun deaths"
their gun deaths really dont matter (not that their deaths overall dont matter). a ton of countries have done studies on this and they all show that the access of a firearm or not doesnt matter much as far as someone wanting to suicide. they tend to use some other method, usually one thats nearly as deadly and caries just as high of a success rate.

IDK if gun laws are the best way to stop it, but by international standards, it's not true to say "this is a rare occurrence"
imo a big factor in other countries are that they are generally much smaller in population so its easier to assess issues and take care of them before they really manifest (a little bit of authoritarian control helps im sure). with that you have better social programs in place that tends to help others more often. thats something the US has always struggled with. We have a 2nd world population in terms of scale and are trying to give people first world help. things dont work out well and because of our political system where new people can be in office literally every 2-4 years it makes it more difficult to set up policies when they can be done away with in the next election.

tho overall i think it comes down to more programs in place to help people. i do think we could do better in some gun control areas though, especially when it comes to accidents and liability.

you can not withstand an insurgency in this country. its not possible. army and police stations are intermixed with civilian populations. there is no front line and fallback points. it would be an endless stream of supply lines being cut off and propaganda disrupted (take down the power grid and youll push more people to your cause). drones and tanks wont do much with most of the populations being in large cities where collateral damage is a massive factor and people very easily able to run and hide in the hills and forests and make do with a vast amount of natural choke points. the US is one of the most diverse and defensible land masses in the entire world.

with that the US has been at war every day to some capacity since our foundation which has amassed a large veteran population. people willing to train and who know how to fight. with that our gun culture has gotten to silly levels. i know people, normal civies who have shot more rounds in their weapons and have camped and done more out doors actives than probably most of any single soldier in the service right now. on top of that because of our gun and military culture and massive capitalistic society normal civilians actually have easy access to a lot of military grade equipment barring heavy weapons even to the point of having newer versions of certain items that the military tends to buy older versions of in bulk to save money. and with no official registry you woudlnt know who has what making everyone a potential threat.

of course the whole thing is one big hypothetical especially when most of the actual military wouldnt stand for that kind of leadership and would most likely start a coup. and this isnt even adding outside forces. the day any of this happens is the day the US dies.

AK's tend to hold up better under heavy use over time with less maintenance. thats about it. maybe if you foresee yourself in a doomsday scenario with little extra parts available youd take the AK over the AR. personally i like to have one just so you have another option if ammo availability for your other weapons gets harder to come by (such as when people panic buy). AK ammo tends to be cheap and in my experience has a lower failure rate than the cheap steel cased .223's. get a cheap wasr or npap, 1000 rounds and shove it in a corner in your safe.

personally speaking id take the risk of getting shot if it meant potentially saving a lot of lives. chances are high you know that risk as well if you carry a gun and have gone through the training. you can also drop the gun once the threat is done away with. still might be a crap shoot considering the state of police in the US, but it does have better odds.

I mean it has worked in other first world countries. There is literally no good argument against at least having SOME level of sensible gun control. I just wish gun enthusiasts would come out and admit they love guns and don't want to see them banned. No other bullshit attached. It'd be better than having to hear all of these ridiculous arguments from the pro-gun crowd about why civilians need to own assault weapons, high capacity magazines, etc.
that argument is so pointlessly exhaustive. the US is not like other first world countrys and thinking it will work for the US is ridiculous. sensible gun control already exists and has existed for decades.

the NRA is a cesspool of an organization and i say this as an extremely pro-2A person.

they use fear tactics to boost gun sales and memberships while making back end deals that piss all over the second amendment and go against most of what their members want. i dont know if gun control advocates realize it but the NRA has had a hand in some of the biggest gun control bills in this countrys history. they put on a show and make everyone on all sides dance to their tune.

that all said, when it comes to gun control its NEVER EVER enough. more bills and regulations are always to fallow when the previous ones dont work to certain peoples satisfaction. the slippery slope argument sounds cliche but its a very real thing. thats why gun people dont budge on the subject. we've actually had a LOT of gun control over the years and yet they still want more.
