yes, but not in the way you may be thinking of. chances of it ever coming to the point that youd need to rise up from the government is practically 0 and the chance of a civil war breaking out is just a little bit above that. but theres a lot of ways a less advanced force can beat a stronger one. saying you cant win over tanks, drones and all that bullshit is laughable especially if the stronger force doesnt take a scorched earth approach and ESPECIALLY when both forces are intertwined with each other.

the main point is that guns are a deterrent with the help of the first amendment in keeping the govt. in check and not letting them get too far up their own ass.

As a teacher, me having a gun wouldn't protect students unless I am literally holding it pointed at the door, safety off, whiteboard marker in the other hand at all times. The attacker is almost always going to be a first strike instigator and simply being armed isnt going to do much against such an attacker.

this is more to mitigate casualties. someone is most likely going to die, but that could be the difference between 2 or 3 and 33. not that im advocating for this.

i used to live in detroit's east side for a few years. that was an interesting time. one of the guys i went to school with for my GED ended up getting killed a in drive by a few weeks after i finished. on his own familys porch steps too.

some countries ban guns and have considerably higher deaths in general. others have a LOT of other factors that help to keep gun violence down. some others replace their gun deaths with other forms of violence.

then theres semi-autos in general and magazine bans. then pump shotguns and lever actions. bolt actions...maybe. youll probably get some dc sniper situations and some guys racking up a crazy high body count with one from 800yards away.

Depends on the situation, but generally if your gun isn't immediately accessible then it isn't going to help you. In my case, I can't do that because I have a small child in the house. If someone breaks in I'm not going to have time to go get the gun out of my closet, remove the barrel lock, load it, and then go looking for evildoers

anyone who asks that question should atleast go shooting once. it may or may not change your mind, but atleast youd have a little better understanding.

as far as asking for gun control thats largely because it never stops at one aspect. the US has gotten a substantial amount of it already (despite even our laws now. you used to be able to own a real machine gun freely) and when something happens anyway that made the previous law pointless you will have people coming up with more laws to try and "fix" things and leave the previous stuff there anyway. it never stops. gun control never means anything for the second amendment or the gun community. there is NEVER any compromise, gun control advocates are all take, take and take and never give. despite what some people may feel it ALWAYS ends in either bans or uber strict regulations to where that its not even worth bothering with. thats why its so hard to get stuff done in thsi coutnry on gun control. especially after the 94 AWB which made a lot of gun owners wake up to the situation.

you have to be careful when it comes specifically to guns and what you want regulated. the more you focus on the item the more doors you start to open. a lot of people might not want a gun ban but are actively supporting it with wanting to tighten certain (and i mean certain) regulations. you arnt making the rules, the people who want them gone are and they will play any hand they have to get it done. if any rule they can get through doesnt work even once they will try to go after more and more and more until theres nothing left while still keeping any failed regulations on the board.

this is how it works. history of firearms has shown this is every single fucking country and even in our own. do people actually know how much gun control we've actually gotten in the last 100 years? literally hundreds of laws that piss on the second amendment and its still not enough for these kinds of people.

actually yeah, they would have. the virginia tech shooter killed double than the florida one did and he used a glock 19 and a .22 pistol. in general most mass shootings are done with handguns. if all you wanted to do is walk into a school or a tightly enclosed room with a mass of bodies you are going to rack up a high body count no matter if its a rifle or pistol or even a knife under certain situations.

the only way someone cant rack up a really high body count with modern weapons are maybe bolt actions, single action revolvers and muzzle loaders. and good luck getting that far. columbine happened without "assault weapons" and that body count was with them letting students go.
