I would say no. Folks have crushes on both real life people, actors/actress, singers, etc. and fictional characters too. Depending on who you ask, at least said crush is on a real person and not some in-game, cartoon/anime, movie/book, etc. character.

I have been playing Final Fantasy XIV for the past 4-5 years. Overall the gameplay doesn't feel that special in my opinion. What keeps me playing is the story and simply playing with friends. I use to care about gearing up but like any MMO, unless you run endgame content, gearing up serves little to no purpose so now I just take my time with the story instead. In the case of the current expansion, Stormblood, the story is no where near as interesting as Heavensward for me so I am really taking my time with the main quest line.

FFXIV is only two expansions in so maybe it's too early to say but it just seems the overall formula of the game has been the same since A Realm Reborn. I visit the FFXIV board occasionally and some folks suggest Square Enix and/or Naoki Yoshida simply seen no reason to make drastic changes if the current formula works.

It could just be because I have been playing various MMORPGs since 2005ish and between World of Warcraft, Warhammer Online, DC Universe Online, Lord of the Rings Online, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Wildstar, and Final Fantasy XIV the overall feel of these MMOs is about the same and/or I am just burned out so FFXIV doesn't feel special to me. At the same time, the various references to previous Final Fantasy games and just the typical FF theme could be why some folks find it interesting.

So I started as an archer, and the combat is mind numbing.

Coming from World of Warcraft, it did feel very slow to me. The 2.5 second global cooldown combined with your class having a only handful of skills in the beginning made it boring to some degree.

On the flip side, in the more difficult content, that 2.5 second global cooldown kinda makes it more interesting. It forces you to be mindful of what you do since, as a healer, if I'm DPSing during some downtime and suddenly the tank takes a chunk of damage, I might be stuck unable to cast any heals for up to 2.5 seconds which is potentially enough time for the tank to take fatal damage.

I haven't played a serious game in years. I still remember the movesets but almost always toward the middle/end of the game I start to develop tunnel vision and making careless mistakes.

Funny enough, I never cursed in front of my friends in college but the one time I did was because I carelessly lost my queen to one friend.

Oh no, the batte SYSTEM in TON is a trillion times worse, and what's more, it's REALLY f***ing hard! Howeve, whenever you choose to make an action, you kinda roll for for a success, something that you can spend your points on depending on the action, and you'll get a description talking about the results of your actions. Again, I say that it's like fantasy NOVEL.

I imagine you're still a littel confused, but hopefully that'll makes things at leas ta little more clear. It's a very different type of game.

Thank you for the clarification. I'll probably grasp it better when I actually start it. Still, if the story is good at least, I'm sure I'll enjoy it.

Depending on the game/genre, I feel some are better while some takes away too much of what the predecessor had to offer. Take Skyrim for example. In my opinion better immersion than Morrowind and dungeons that actually feels like dungeon. At the same time I didn't like how we had less customization (not counting mods of course) compared to what Morrowind had to offer.

I enjoyed making my own magic spells, flying around, etc. I found it funny that I can rip merchants off with high mercantile skills or provoke guards to attack me by insulting them. I know mods fixes this but to compare apples to apples, I'm looking only at the base games.

Having not played Saints Row 2, I read 3 and 4 are too wacky compared to its predecessor. At the same time that was what I loved about Saints Row 3 and 4. I treat GTA as the more "serious" open world crime game whereas Saints Row 3 and 4 were fun to me due to the wacky aspects.

Between Deus Ex, DX:IW, DX: Human Revolution and DX: Mankind Divided, some aspects I thought the first did a better job at while some aspects I thought the successors did a better job at. I find myself replaying both DX and DX:MD depending on which aspect I want to enjoy again.

I could probably go on but this will just turn into a wall of text. As a whole I don't feel games as a whole are getting better or worse. Various aspects of games I feel are both improving and degrading.

Indeed they didn't. Instead they came up with something that is considerably better.

Your party memebers are very messed up, but dear god they sympathetic, and you grow to like them over time and see past their flaws.

The one character that is nothing but likable is a child who is useless in combat, but god, she really really makes you want to protect her.

Interesting. I'm gonna have to sit down one day and actually start the game.

XianMei posted...
And most importantly, it succeeds the most where Planescae Torment fails. Yeah the actual battle system is fucing terrible, but that's because you're not supposed to fight. Instead you're rewarded for being smart and charimsatic, and the real joy of combat is rolling to see if you succeed, which is followed by a really intense description of the results of your actions, which leads to a really awesome description of a battle that'd be near impossible to flim.

If you like to read fantasy novels with really awesome battles, this is game that you're looking for!

Kinda confuse by your statement. Are you suggesting Planescape Torment battles were clunking and Torment: Tides of Numenera improved on that? Or that Planescape Torment lacked good combat system because it was designed more toward talking your way through most situations?

If so that's great to hear. I had The Nameless One be a mage with focus on charisma and wisdom to get the most out of the story. Great from a story telling point of view but I simply could not use him as a mage properly. My party members did most of the fighting when I was forced too. I was actually worried about the end when you're forced to solo it. Still, it felt so rewarding when I used TNO's wisdom, charisma, and intelligence to solve so many conflicts that otherwise would had led to an ugly battle. And the amount of insight from relying on those stats made for a great story.

I just got back from watching it and loved it. I thought it was a pop culture reference overload that surprisingly didn't seem to distract you from the "meat" of the movie. I could't stop laughing at The Shining reference and was already laughing the moment I saw the bouncing ball after Aech mentioned he/she never seen it and asked if it's scary.

I actually liked how the movie lightly touched on gaming addiction and how some people have killed themselves over games and/or neglected their family due to a game. I don't think the movie was trying to send a message with those few seconds of reference but I thought simply including it got some point across.

Overall I'd say yes but that is probably more due to the friends I had/have and the people I hung around with. I took the various Honor and AP classes so it was refreshing to be in a class with people that wanted to be there and not be a disturbance. I took a regular Economics class in my senior year instead of AP Economics and dreaded it. I was practically the only one in a group of five that wanted to do the work and learn. Despite whatever encouragement I tried with my group members, they simply didn't care for the class.

It was also great to have teachers that enjoyed teaching. I was told my AP Biology teacher treated us well because she knew we wanted to be there whereas she was strict on her regular Biology class students.

Beyond this, it was great to see close friends everyday. We all did cross country and track-n-field together so would always hang out after school together for a little bit. Most of us were in orchestra as well. Overall it was enjoyable.

Fortunately my friends corrected me and when I tried good uni, I've loved it ever since. As to why I eventually started liking mackerel, I think tuna and salmon nigiri was getting too mild for me so I needed something stronger. However blue fin tuna nigiri is amazing.

Tough call. Both are good for different reasons. Star Wars, the movies at least, doesn't quite have the suspense I've witness as some Star Trek episodes. Granted the Star Wars TV series and books does a good job of fulfilling that.

For the short amount of time that I went vegan, cheese was the thing I missed the most

That's one of the many reasons I can't go vegan. Probably the most important, tbh...

About the same for me. I can see myself becoming a vegetarian for health sake but it will be tough to give up on cheese.

Assuming she was otherwise desirable and had it together, sure. There's nothing inherently wrong with being a hardcore gamer, but some people seem to be jumping into making assumptions based off that.

Kobo makes the superior e-readers

Interesting. I've been using my kindle Paperwhite for the past several years. For an eReader I don't really need that much functionality. What makes the Kobo better?
