How badly could you possibly need something that costs $2 and change that you'll bend over and spread your anus for $100/yr to get it?

Technically not really $100 a year. The primary account of the Prime account can still add I think three or so other people to the account to benefit from the free/reduced shipping cost. My friend is the primary account holder but its shared between him, his brother, another friends of ours, and myself. I don't know about the others but I give my friend $25 each year for the access. $25 a year for the amount of items I order is worth it in my opinion.

WhiskeyDisk posted...
Quantity isn't quality though.

And quality is purely subjective. One man's trash is another man's treasure. For some folks, $100 a year for the music streaming, movies, and free/reduced shipping is worth it.

Firewood18 posted...
the majority of consumers just don't care and rationalize it that they are getting the best deal.

It's not just the better deals but also the availability of products to choose from and the ease of searching for them. When I go to any retail stores I want to have more than just a handful of brands to choose from or to compare with for any particular product. Unfortunately of course physical stores can only carry so much items so customers are stuck choosing only among what is available when there might be better products out there.

I know some retail stores have websites where one can order directly from but even then their selection is pitiful compared to Amazon. For better or worse, I feel these retail stores jumped on to the online market too late. Is it really Amazon's fault that other retail stores didn't shift their approach to fit the online market when it started to bloom? Many of stores were established well before Amazon exploded. Why didn't these stores take advantage of the online market before Amazon did?

It's kinda like how I see it with Steam nowadays. I know many of folks do not like Steam and/or digital distribution in general but as far as I know no one else really took advantage of the online digital distribution medium as well as they did and now most developers release their products through Steam. For better or worse, some developers are stuck using Steam as medium if they want to get the name of their product out there.

Website navigation and search algorithm is also horrendous on some retail stores website but that's a separate issue.

Are you referring to ISPs or cellphone companies specifically? Also, not everyone will use that amount of data per month so if there's a reduced price to lowering the bandwidth, might as well go for it. Charter right now charges me about $65 a month for either 60 Mbps or 100 Mbps, I forgot. If I can go back down to 30 Mbps and just pay $30-40 a month I'll take that deal but unfortunately they did away with their lower Mbps packages.

Discounting sports shooting or just shooting for fun, isn't a shotgun/handgun maybe all one needs for self/home defense? We don't exactly live in war-torn country where we might find ourselves needing to defend against heavily armed opponents.

Of course if Red Dawn ever becomes reality, we might find ourselves wanting more than just shotguns or handguns. At the same time, I have doubts the average civilian, even armed, can organize well enough to fight against an organize invading army.

Not that I want to wish harm upon them but I do wonder if Bundy and those standing with him seriously thought they can hold against the U.S. Army if s*** hits the fan. Or maybe I'm underestimating trained civilians with guns or overestimating our military.

Wow. I didn't realize so many people barely eat fast food...

It can get kinda pricey compared to making your own meals in bulk or only ordering off the value menu. Discounting the value menu, the average fast food meal combo is at least $5-10 depending on the location. Maybe it's my age but the typical fast food combo, even a small, is maaaybe too much food for me. I can eat that much but I don't need to in order to feel content.

When making your own food in bulk the price per meal can get down to maybe $2-3 I think. Hell, the oatmeal I buy for brunch at work cost about $5-10 per container and can last me 3-4 weeks.

Have you "fought" over getting to pay the bill at a restaurant before?

I am sure some of us have gotten into tug-of-wars with the bill when trying to treat some friends, guests, elderly/younger family members, etc for special occasions. I'm not counting situations where it's just a casual dinner with friends/family and you're just taking turns to pay the bill or splitting the bill.

My sister and brother-in-law were visiting my aunt and uncle in Taiwan recently and at one point my sister tried the "bathroom break" trick to pay the bill. She got caught however as both her and my uncle kinda raced to the cashier. Though my sister got to the cashier first my uncle told the cashier my sister was a guest so the cashier defaulted to giving the bill to my uncle instead.

Personally for me I have had my share of tug-o-war with the bill so now I usually try and sit where the waiter/waitress would approach near me and I would have my credit card ready to hand over immediately. Only once did I arrived early to give my credit card to the waiter/waitress before the rest of the group arrived.

Have you "fought" over getting to pay the bill at a restaurant before?

Interesting. I wouldn't mind substituting ground beef with this plant-base meat. If I can satisfy my burger cravings while reducing my red meat intake, that's a win-win for me. Of course whether or not I'll get the proper daily nutrients intake is another question.

Why are vegans and vegetarians trying to turn plants into meat? Nobody is trying to turn beef into asparagus, chicken into soy, pork into lentils, or fish into avocados.

Perhaps someone can correct me on this but as a whole don't meat products have a larger footprint compared to that of plant food? Also, I'd imagine some vegans and vegetarians do miss the taste of meat but don't want to eat the real thing either due to health reasons or moral reasons. This substitute might be the closest thing for them. Overall, more options is rarely a bad thing in my opinion. I'm sure some folks want to eat the real thing while for some if the substitute is cheaper, taste the same, and have near equal nutrients, that is enough of a reason to switch over.
