I think they still are in that grey area somewhat. They dont know at the time that the larger explosion is Shinras doing. Jessie is convinced she just accidentally made the bomb wrong and obviously feels a lot of remorse, but Barret is still like hey we knew there would be consequences to doing this stuff but we gotta keep going for the planet. Theres a bit near the end where president Shinra kind of validly calls out Barret on his hypocrisy

no, some stuff is just them rewriting a bit to expand on what was already there, theres no suggestion that every change is the fault of a time traveling Sephiroth.

I think the more powerful explosion thing is just to more clearly establish Heidegger and President Shinra as villains early on. Everyone gets way more screentime now obviously because theres so much more time to spend in Midgar.

Barret was always my favorite in the original. I still like him a lot here, but I agree that his voice actor is the worst of the party. Hes mostly fine, but he definitely has some line readings that were noticeably not quite right. I think it mostly comes up when hes doing his mako preaching stuff.

virtual boy is funny. Basically no one here in the year 2020 is going to care about the Wonderswan or Intellivision enough to nominate it, but people might care enough about something being funny

ok Im going to start a post and then ill edit with more because I keep losing my post mid post

1. my instinct is Sephiroth because of the villains contest

2. Leon sold me on Zelda

3. My instinct here was also villains based. I checked and , it looks like Bowser has been in the more matches than Ganondorf, so I go with him

4. Im not at all sure how many random Pokmon characters got into the last few contests, so it could be that, but Im pretty sure its Mega Man because it has one super good character (Mega Man) and two pretty good characters (X and Zero) and then Protoman has been there, and also it had a girl and two villains and Metal Man and I think thats it? Sonics situation is similar but I think on average the MM stuff is stronger than the Sonic stuff... so yeah

5. again, Leons Vincent logic makes sense to me because our vote totals suck now

7. My first thought was Cecil because it feels like hes been in a bunch of contests and his losses havent all been super embarrassing, but then I realized CATS was in the villains contest so I think its him

8. This is an interesting one because its less about whos good and more about who didnt get very far the past couple years and thus have their average weighed down by our shitty vote totals... Aeris got pretty far in the last contest so I think that will drag her down and let Master Chief win.

yeah this game did a great job of making me love Aerith, a character I really didnt have much attachment to in the original.
On one hand, I think changing that major plot point would be a mistake that would make people really upset, but on the other hand... I really dont want her to die.

Those little paper masks aren't doing much, because they aren't close to being air tight. It's also why I'm annoyed that they went from "only an M95 or respirator will help" (which is actually the truth) to "just wear anything".

A few more thoughts:

-I was really surprised Roche didnt show up again. When he was revealed I thought for sure that theyd added him to give a more interesting boss fight for the end of the escape from the Shinra building. I did not expect him to make it out of this first part, but I guess their plan is to have him show up as a recurring guy in the series. that seems like overkill since we already have the Turks to fill the recurring minor antagonist role.

-when I analyzed the whispers and saw the bits about one being a sword, one fists, and one a gun I thought wheres the one with a staff to be their Aerith? but now I know that theyre supposed to be the AC guys and not the party

-I appreciated their repurposing of random enemies as boss fights. Obviously we talk about Hell House a lot, but I was stoked when Sword Dance showed up too.

I just finished it and had to make a post somewhere to say that the scene where Heidegger is like who are you people and Barret says Avalanche, then Aerith says local florist and then Red says lab rat dog or something is one of the funniest bits of dialogue ive ever seen in a video game

I thought the game was very good and I wasnt nearly as bothered by all the weird shit at the end as I expected to be

I intended there to be an interesting question about what exactly would get represented in the match picture there, and thus how it would perform - would it just be the Marvel logo? Perhaps a lineup of Iron Man, Spider-Man, and the like? It's not really a question of whether or not it would win, though, because KH is just too strong an opponent.

Hmm, I hope that if we do have this contest, Allen doesnt just use the currently existing franchise categories. It seems weird that Marvel Ultimate Alliance and LEGO Marvel are the same thing, but Final Fantasy Tactics gets to be its own series.

although if people were actually nominating based on the game on that franchise page, I dont think Marvel makes it in the contest. The most popular Marvel games (MvC2, Spider-Man) arent even included

of course how would people voting really know that Marvel was only intended to refer to that specific list of games.

I dunno, im overthinking an entrant that probably wouldnt be in a position to win a match regardless
