A lot of insurers are already waiving all fees related to coronavirus, including treatments. You can see if yours is listed below to find out what their policies are. Some of them are even waiving all fees related to telehealth.

I know insurers are still evil and all so I don't need that lecture again because I know all about their issues, but this is something they weren't forced to do (aside from looking bad by comparison to others) and even though I work in the industry, I find this shocking that so many of them are doing the right thing without being told they have to. Too bad this won't be a moment like when the Grinch's heart grew three sizes, and they create a pool to share the costs for people who arent insured.

if this is something that's going to affect poor people disproportionately - which is expected - it means this isn't a racial issue but a class one. tying brown and black, trying to tie in reparations, playing identity politics like this ruins that completely.

The point though with regard to reparations is that minorities are disproportionately part of the lower class because of Americas historical and ongoing systemic racism.

You want to help all the poor, thats great, but it ignores the perpetual, intentional harm inflicted on the non-white population to specifically disadvantage them.

Brown isnt like an official census thing, its more of a social/colloquial thing. I think it can cover Latinos and also Arabs and Indians (from India, not native Americans) and stuff.

Like even if someone from the Middle East would technically check the white box on a census form, theyre not white in the way a French guy would be.

Its almost as if ethnicity, race, and color are all three distinctly different things

Blacks, as a whole, are likely the least affected demographic so far from it.

I meant on average during the pandemic

And yeah, I dont know if theres any evidence of her statement or not. I know Wang said that one of the hardest hit communities was Hispanic, which would typically fall under the umbrella of black and brown people, at least in the way she means it.

Why would COVID relief be drafted with an eye towards reparations anyways? That's just wild.

The argument would be, if it was accurate, that communities largely populated by people of color have less access to quality health care on average than predominantly white communities, for the reasons she states.

Thus the virus would be disproportionately affecting them due to systemic racism built into the fabric of the nation, and you can make a case for reparations because of it.
