White House officials including Kellyanne Conway defended Trump's use of the term last week after his rally, claiming that he was not trying to spread anti-Asian sentiment and instead was merely making a point about the virus's origin, which is believed to be China's Wuhan province.

Reminds me of that Onion article where a mock political replied to every criticism against him with some variation of 'No, you're wrong, that's just not what happened. I can see where you're coming from, but that fact is that you're just wrong.'

watching the video now but one example of an improvement is they originally had the burning of Kings Landing being caused by Daenerys accidentally setting off a cache of wildfire.

This is what I always predicted, because it actually made sense - either Cersei sets off the blaze and fulfills her arc as the Mad Queen while Jaime's strangling her to death, or Dany accidentally sets off a cache and the resulting inferno / failure to properly conquer the city is what drives her irrevocably into madness.

I mean, you see a random gout of wildfire go up during the burning of KL that's never addressed further beyond someone just looking at it briefly; wouldn't surprise me if this was shot for the original ending and mistakenly got added to the final cut.

For real

Maybe if they weren't taking 12 years between games they'd have some more $$$ on hand and wouldn't need to resort to shit like that

They're stuck in a rather suspicious holding pattern right now.

'Don't expect ES 6 until Starfield is done.'
'So how's Starfield coming along?'
'Uhhh...'

'Don't expect any new Creations for Fallout 4 or Skyrim SE until we fix the Downtown Boston crashing introduced by the latest CC patch.'
'So how's them DT Boston fixes coming along?'
'Uhhh...'

This was pre-Covid, even; Creation Club is on indefinite hiatus until the pandemic 'dies down,' and I wouldn't be surprised if they use it as an excuse to quietly kill the whole thing. I understand that the pandemic has thrown a severe wrench into things in general, but Creations seem like a prime way to keep some cash flowing due to them only needing to provide some lore oversight and QA. It doesn't bode well for the future if they can't even deliver on something as simple as that.

I wouldn't put any amount of money on this actually happening, but it's a possibility that can't be completely dismissed. In the face of Covid-19 lasting well into next year if not longer, Trump's ego could very well take a backseat to him simply not wanting to do his job anymore; I imagine the presidency was a lot easier when he could spend all day carelessly shitposting on Twitter without having to constantly worry about / be reminded of his bungling response to the pandemic and protests / riots, dropping approval rates, etc. He could easily create a narrative where the American people didn't love him enough to deserve him that his base would gobble up, sparing him the ignominy of defeat and freeing him from the responsibility of a hard-times presidency that he is clearly unable to handle on any level.

Heh, I feel your pain. A couple months ago, my dad randomly told me 'hey, I hope you know that any time you want to talk about politics, we can always have a calm, rational discussion about it.' He's suckered me like this before, and I knew better - he really can't take criticism, and only considers a discussion 'calm and rational' if he ends up winning it - but at that moment I was tired and my guard was down, so I spent a good half-hour tearing apart Trump. One of the gems of the conversation was when I brought up how Trump has no real convictions, and his beliefs sway with whatever headline he happens to hear that day. Dad's gem of a spin on this was 'well I think it's good to have a leader that listens to people around him and is willing to be open to different views.' He also thinks Trump is doing a 'pretty good' job at handling the pandemic, so you can see what an uphill battle this conversation was from the get-go.

The conversation later segued into my humble request that they at least try to deprogram themselves from Fox News. I even said repeatedly that we'd be having this same conversation if they were addicted to CNN or MSNBC, as I consider all 24-hour news networks to be cancerous. But of course he only heard what he wanted to hear out of this, and surprisingly, this was much more offensive to him than bashing Trump.

He stewed about it for a couple days and then laid into me again, starting off with 'I guess we can't have a rational conversation after all if you're going to get angry (I never once raised my voice),' and told me to never again suggest that they stop watching Fox News, justifying it with this notion that he would never have the gall to ask or command me to censor my political views (he has, on several occasions). And then the conversation drifted off into the usual handwaves - I went off to college and got seduced by shallow liberal ideologies, etc. Unsurprisingly, he didn't have an answer when I told him I voted Republican in the two elections after I got out of college. He was also pretty surprised that I flat-out (fake) apologized for bringing up the subject (even though I didn't), and was just as gung-ho as he was over never bringing up the subject again. Like I said, I knew better, and while the years have not been kind to his physical stature, for all of my childhood and a decent chunk of my adulthood, my dad was basically Bill O'Reilly in the body of a professional linebacker; can't think of anyone on this planet who intimidates me more when things get heated.

tl:dr your parents are the hardest people to deprogram their deep-seated political views, because they will never not see you as their uppity rebellious child.

Yeah what was that guys name who got knocked out of the running years ago for saying yee-haw! at a rally? Meanwhile Trump literally mocks a disabled person and his supporters cheer him on.

It's because conservatives had been craving a candidate who would stand up to the, for lack of a sensible term for a nonsensical concept, 'liberal media allegation machine.' Any and all campaign trail allegations against one of their good Christian conservative candidates, particularly sexual assault, are seen as nothing more than media smear tactics. When Trump dug in his heels and defiantly weathered the 'grab 'em by the pussy' scandal, I knew then and there that, sadly, he'd just given himself the best chance he was ever getting at winning the election.

I need to sit down and finish this show sometime. I have S1-4 on dvd and caught a smattering of episodes in S5 and 6.

Personal anecdote time (spoilers for the episode 'I Remember You'): so I watched this episode right around the time it came out and was getting heaps of praise. I liked it, I thought it was well-written and added some neat backstory, but it never really grabbed me. This was before I spent two years caring for my grandfather with Alzheimer's (for the purpose of the story let's call him 'Jack'). One evening, as was too often the case, he started fighting with me over...some completely nonsensical thing. Yet in a rare moment of clarity, realized that he was in the wrong, even if he couldn't understand why. He walked off mumbling to himself 'when are you going to get better, Jack? When are you going to get better...?'

Some time later I rewatched 'I Remember You' with that rather poignant memory still fresh in mind. I found that I had a greater appreciation for it as it went on, and when I got to the point in the ep where the Ice King is mournfully wailing 'Why can't anyone help me?!' it was like a knife right through the heart. I genuinely got the sense that whoever wrote that episode had gone through a similar experience themselves.
