Actually, I didn't brush my teeth for like, half a year one time. If you have healthy genetics you don't need to slather your teeth and hair in all that stuff every day. I'm not saying it isn't good for you -- just kinda unnecessary. Some people are predisposed to unhealthy teeth and gums and some aren't. Once had a hygienist tell me that she had a patient with perfect teeth who never brushed, and a patient with horrible teeth who always brushed.

Cool stuff.
not sure it's genetics, it depends which strains of bacteria have made their way into your mouth. read an article once saying that we could theoretically immunize ourselves to tooth decay by immunizing ourselves to specific kinds of bacteria (though I think they were probably exaggerating how possible it was to actually immunize people to it.)

so if you happen not to have encountered particular oral-decay bacteria (yet) in your life-time, maybe you won't have much tooth-decay. I don't think that's a good reason not to brush and especially floss though.

it depends on the game, but it's not always as hard as it seems. often, becoming good at something is discovering how easy it actually is. the trick is not getting discouraged during the learning phase.

but then, there definitely are certain genres that I will never be good enough at to compete online (RTS and fighting games)

Get back to me when we pass Italy's numbers, which we will, easily.

Those are far more real, and they have done a WAY better job of self isolating then us, have more medical supplies etc per capita and they took it VERY seriously right from the start (onll a few deaths reported before then started quarantine).

So yeah, we'll get there, but this has just started.
did you mean to say South Korea or something? Italy is known for being the worst prepared country by far, though they're starting to get it more under control now.

and what do you mean by "pass Italy's numbers"? USA has almost twice as many cases as Italy. But then Italy also apparently has a huge death rate at almost 12%, which hopefully USA will never get close to.

(ok I guess this topic's theme is death toll. yes Italy has 3x the deaths as USA right now, but USA is just getting started and growing exponentially at 20-30k new cases per day. that's ~1200 new future deaths per day at a 4% rate.)

They're generally scattered around various offices and after being up all night working on the server I'm not about to run back and forth all over the building. And besides, most of these sites have horribly slow networks, the more stuff I try to do at once the worse it gets.
when I have a lot of devices to setup at the same time, I usually try set them up all on the same table/room if I can, and perform the same step on each of them in sequence so that they're all showing the same thing. though I guess it's a lot easier with tablets or laptops or credit card machines that have their own screens. I guess for desktops you'd need a lot of monitors or a bunch of kvm switches or something.

(even more advanced setups would use scripts and things to have completely unattended and consistent installations but I guess that's more for when you're installing dozens or hundreds of stations).

FYI, while it's definitely right to suspect CCP of lying, there's supposed to be nothing suspicious about their numbers. they follow similar patterns and rates as other countries. it seems more like it's their ability to enact extreme measures (which could even include executing infected) that has allowed them to significantly slow the spread.

are elements even used as part of the narrative? maybe they mention them off-hand, "just use fire you dork", but not often as part of the story. (though I don't play many jRPGs these days so who knows)

the effect, I guess, would be to have sudden new defenses and offenses to certain other enemies, which could turn the tide of a war, or give an old enemy an opportunity to start one.

a story idea I always think would be good to implement in an RPG would be the invention of healing magic. healing is taken for granted in so many games. it would be good if there was a game where the invention of healing itself was the driving narrative, since it makes such an enormous tactical difference and would be a world-shattering technology.

I think in general "here's a new concept that we'll cover from scratch"

is always a lot easier to execute than "here's a concept we've already covered, watch as we try to find new ways of approaching it that are just as if not more interesting than what you've already seen"

for one thing, it doesn't lend itself quite as well to beginning-middle-end as the first.

I guess you need to separate the story from the setting, so that you can tell an interesting story without having to rely so much on the establishment of a novel setting being what drives the entertainment. and I think probably hollywood relies a *lot* on "novel setting" as the driving force of most of their movies, rather than actually having interesting stories.

How is that different at 70? Tremendous crashes happen at high speed, this is just as valid a reason to ban driving all together. You won't get more crashes, particularly during quarantine.
because the damage caused increases faster than your speed, and the likelihood of losing control also increases. increasing speed approaches death, no matter how you look at it.

Kyuubi4269 posted...
So you're basing your whole arguement on the maybe 1m wide, clearly-marked median every now and then and completely disregarding the literal thousands of miles of crash barriers down these roads? That's ridiculous. That would be like setting the speed limit to 5mph in cities because theoretically a toddler could walk out from in front of a parked car 3ft in front of you.
"my whole argument"? you asked me a question that I said I didn't understand and I gave you a basic answer; that wasn't an argument.

*you're* whole argument seems to be that accidents can happen at any speed, therefore speed is irrelevant to danger, which is ridiculous.

At higher speeds you have aerodynamic stabilization. What you mean is people panic at speeds faster than they're comfortable with. It's a speed limit, not a mandatory rate.
I'm not talking about the speed limit. you should watch car crash videos if you don't already, it only takes a bit of lateral momentum shift to seriously lose control, and the faster you're going, the less shift it takes and the worse the result.

another thing I would mention is about making mistakes. before you make the wrong mistake, the feeling you have is that as long as you know what you're doing, you're ok, because you know not to make the wrong mistake. the problem is that you can make a mistake that you don't realize you're making. as in, you can unexpectedly and unknowingly have the wrong mental picture of the situation and do the wrong thing at the wrong time. this is not something you can prevent or avoid; it's to some degree inevitable. in other words, your perception of the situation is not guaranteed to be 100% accurate at all times. no matter how careful you are, you'll miss something eventually.

Kyuubi4269 posted...
what happens when you move an object perpendicular to the direction of travel? How much energy do you bring with you? Because that's the only way you're getting a meaningful crash outside driving recklessly
not sure what you're saying here. you either roll or if you have enough grip you transfer your momentum into the new direction. it's actually a pretty common crash for a car to go perpendicular and then drive straight into the median. at excessive speed though you'd roll and then practically disintegrate.

this is definitely a case of "where there's smoke there's fire". if there's 1 case, then there's really a helluva lot more than that.

and since viruses spread exponentially all of these measures are well worth it. controlling the rate at which it spreads has huge effects down the road compared to ignoring it. overkill is what we want here.

honestly I'm pretty impressed by how diligently the world seems to be approaching this. for once this isn't a case of "we all know what we should be doing but no one is actually doing it".
