I'm not objecting necessarily, I'm just wondering what the specific criteria is. otherwise you end up in the grey zone that companies like this tend to prefer, where it comes down to "whatever we decide should be censored should be censored".

what is it specifically?

- (all) posts that are factually wrong?
- (all) posts that are factually wrong about political issues?
- (all) posts that are using an image of someone's face that is provably not theirs to use?

or something I haven't thought of? (note that these are not rhetorical questions)

obviously it depends, but as far as I know, no it's not realistic. the difference between average and expert programmers is extremely large, which is why there are so many programming jobs that ask for senior developers and almost none that ask for junior developers.

then again, there are also many places where just being able to communicate effectively and work diligently puts you light years ahead of everyone else, regardless of your experience.

But that's not what I'm asking. I'm asking about this very specific case. Censorship in a broader sense is indeed a much more complex question, but you can answer the question about this case pretty simply.
my point was that your question is misleadingly narrow. "(don't you think) this one comment is obviously fake so of course twitter should censor it" jumps right over the more important questions and isn't as straightforward as it seems.

you're saying here that you can make decisions at the small scale before making decisions at the large scale, when the opposite is true.

what even are your grounds for deleting the comments?

Again, I ask: Do you think Twitter shouldn't be shutting down people who are deliberately spreading misinformation for the purposes of influencing the election?
depending on the situation this can be a very misleading question.

the question, "should twitter censor tweets" is not so easy to answer in general and there's a giant can of worms involved with it that you're glossing over by asking that.

Mead posted...
I dont think you understand what whataboutism means
if twitter was, for example (only for example), censoring fake pro-right tweets, and not censoring fake pro-left tweets, it would be more than just hypocritical, it would be a subtle way of injecting a bias.

it's not always so easy to remain impartial once you start having to make decisions that control/censor speech.

time seems to move faster when you want more of it, and slower when you want less of it (the opposite of what you want). if you don't want the day to end, then the closer it is to ending, the faster the time will seem to disappear.

not sure but I think a problem with that analogy is that vehicle insurance is only for 1-time incidents, whereas health insurance can cover chronic conditions. there's not a lot of difference between getting insurance before or after you're diagnosed with a life-long illness. (I do wonder how it can be profitable for an insurance company to *ever* gain in that situation either way though.)

well the static address avoids the router altogether (or parts of it). just the simple setup of device with static address + switch + second device on the same subnet, you should be able to ping it. (small chance though that ps4s don't respond to pings or something but they "probably" do.)

from that setup, you can diagnose other things. is it a port on the switch? is it the switch itself (definitely power-cycle the switch/router; and try an actual network switch if you can). is it the cable? (sometimes a cable can be failing enough to cause problems with signal, but not bring it completely down).

making it as isolated as possible, you avoid other problems that might be interfering, like ip conflicts, network cycles, dhcp overflow, etc.

if then, no matter which cable you use, which port you use or switch you use, (or how well seated the ends of the cable are) (and maybe you can do this test successfully for some other device using the same hardware), then all that would be left is the ps4.

is there some screen in the ps4 where you configure network settings? dynamic vs static address, dns, gateway, etc?
assuming there is, you should try giving it a static address on the same subnet but outside of the DHCP range

so, for example, if your DHCP gives addresses between 192.168.0.10 and 192.168.0.200, give it something like 192.168.0.220

gateway should be your router address (often 192.168.0.1)
dns can be your router address or your isp's dns addresses, or something else like google's dns, etc (8.8.8.8).

the main thing is the static address and then try to ping it from another device on the network.

sounds like it can be repaired but only by replacing a chip on the main board

otherwise, standard network diagnosis:
do the port LEDs light up? if they don't try a different cable
if they light up, does it get an address in DHCP?
if it gets an address, can you ping it?

for the teleportation one, you're thinking of transporters (converting your matter into energy/information and transmitting it), but the "now you're just a clone" thing isn't a problem for portals (wormholes?).

and then, the "worst case" for portals would be Doom: Hell on Earth.

that would still be awesome though.

to anyone wondering, it's basically what you use to typeset mathematical documents. if you've taken a math test with fancy math questions on it, it's very likely the test was typeset with latex (pronounced "lay-tech").

in higher level math courses, and math related computer science courses, you have to submit your assignments as a PDF that was generated from latex. (possible that there are other options as well). I've had to use it in at least a cryptography course and a numerical computation course.

it's also available to use to write math symbols on math-related stackexchange sites.

it's pretty much math-specific; I wouldn't expect anyone other than mathematicians (and people from math-related fields) to use it.

not necessarily "STEM" in general. from what I've seen, it's used a lot specifically in more advanced math classes, so I'd maybe expect a mathematician to know it, or some alternative, but that's it.

SASS, which should be a superset of CSS, so plain CSS should still be valid. yes you should use something like SASS rather than vanilla CSS. (I use LESS.)

I prefer doing business logic on the client, they preferred on the server
client is more or less presentation layer, so yeah, you should have a good reason for putting business logic there. that's a bit of an issue from a design point-of-view, and possibly also a security point-of-view.

(I say this but some apps I've written that I wanted to work 100% disconnected do have a fair bit of logic client-side. in that case I treat the whole client-side as an application that just happens to receive some static initial information from the server and saves things to the server when it's able to contact it.)

they used non-relational dbs, I have experience in relational.
that's understandable if you've never used one before. (I've used indexeddb which is asynchronous no-sql on client-side, but I have yet to use a no-sql db server-side.)
