Sigh it really sucks how true this can be sometimes. It reminds me of when public executions were a thing to sate people's bloodlust and get them focused on that and not the inequality/unhappiness in their own lives, and to direct their frustration onto those hapless criminals rather than I dunno, the government or any other entity.

Honestly, I'm really sad modern shows don't have a laugh track. Seinfeld taught me a lot of important lessons, like how I'm supposed to laugh when the actors take a moment to pause and stand around with patient/exasperated expressions on their faces.

Without that, we are lost

No instead they should be receiving more guantanamo esque torturing and waterboarding and electrocuting and whatnot.

Could someone explain why America looks more towards punishing rather than rehabilitating? It's not even for the criminals' sake; a mentality of focusing on rehabilitation nets a positive outcome for the society as a whole. Knowing what makes a criminal tick, what leads to a life of crime, and what patterns result in violent, inhumane criminals, can prevent them and protect society as a whole, in the long run and in the future.

Kill a psychopath who went on a murder spree? Great you killed one guy. Those people are still murdered. Find out what led to that happening to prevent it from happening again? At least you can save lives in the future. Why doesn't the society see it that way though?

I also liked the implicit parallel with the Berry Circus case. The girls inability to comprehend death drove Acro irrationally mad to the point of murder. The girl is a bit similar to Phoenix. When playing this game I never got the sense that Phoenix mourned Mia in a way thats consistent with most normal humans. He instead went about his way solving case after case without much of a deterrence or sense of grief. I noticed it and thought it was a bit weird. And the game knew. 2 games later and this weird feeling regarding Phoenix manifested into Godot.

Something I forgot to mention last time I was here:

To be fair, mia is still with him whenever maya channels her so... she's not really gone. It would be another thing if that whole thing didn't exist.

Don't get me wrong, when I first played this series over a decade ago I was absolutely shaken up at mia's death, both at the sudden escalation of seeing a gory lifeless body for what seemed like a jokey series, and the impact of her death.

So yeah I definitely did feel like her death was kinda just glossed over back then, because like damn I was not expecting that to happen at the beginning of the game, literally right after the first case. It hit me hard, but seeing her come back not just through Maya but even through Pearl sometimes kind of dilutes it a teensy bit

Yeah the clips they advertize with don't do the show justice at all. There's definitely some of that humor mixed in here and there, but it's overall a very intelligently written show with a lot of clever comedy and a surprising amount of heart.

As the other user said I'm definitely down for a Harley and Ivy show, loved gotham girls and one of my favorite episodes of BTAS was Harley and Ivy (as well as seeing their relationship be mentioned, shown and explored throughout the show in little scenes here and there)

I'm hoping you've only seen a couple episodes/random clips, cause I can't at all see this comparison outside of a very small handful of select jokes that aren't the show's main source of comedy/entertainment in the slightest.

Maybe those couple minute youtube clips aren't doing it justice but I'm just seeing a lot of "that type" of crude, mean-spirited humor and characters

I loved Brave and the Bold and I'm a fan of the more clever "sneaking in jokes past the censors" type of comedy since it forces the writers to be creative rather than given free reign to just be bloody/gory/sexual for a cheap laugh. Which is what's been happening for most harley quinn media (ie that movie with bats they recently made) post her explosive surge in popularity the past few years.

I mention batb because I instantly recognized batman's voice from the show and wanted to see it purely for that

Like pay money for a fully trained, EV/IV full, powerful, and shiny to boot pokemon, as one of those exchange real life money packages online whatever they're called.

I feel like it would make them from millions to billions. I know as a kid I would have liked to have the ultimate team to beat the battle tower in Emerald which I could never get through, or worse, Pokemon Stadium 2 where the AI outright cheats, and I probably would have paid money for an ultimate setup pokemon to take care of those Stadium Cup battles.

You know those joke topics about how "x and x is what y should have been, a masterpiece" that plagued this dump? It actually applies to Xenoblade 1.

Xenogears? Relatively interesting idea for a game that was canceled halfway through and released unfinished with a laughable disc 2 portion.

Xenosaga? Rather awful. A second shot at doing the Xeno games, shorter and even worse than gears (Xenosaga 1 and 2 combined are still shorter than disc 1 of Xenogears, that's how much of a gyp saga was)

Finally you get to Xenoblade. An amazing, fantastic game, the last game on the Wii, the only jrpg for it, and one of the most crucial experiences on the system of all time. A staggeringly long adventure of over 80-100+ hours that's fun through and through, with amazing gameplay, lovable characters with some Ivalice-esque character designs and aspects (Dunban being sort of a combination of Basch and Balthier for one) and great voice acting. Even the few more anime-leaning tropes like the cute Nopon are weirdly endearing rather than annoying, they're just ridiculous enough to make you chuckle rather than facepalm.

Then you combine that with the enjoyable gameplay and beautiful (yes even on the Wii) environments to explore, the quality of life improvements it has (like fast travel, autonomy on the day-night cycle, etc etc) and the overall smoothness of the game, all leads to making it a must have.

The fact that its story only references Xenogears/saga at the very end is a particularly nice easter egg for previous players of the series, and doesn't impact the overall story, which was not only entertaining and genuinely thrilling, but actually told well unlike the past 4 Xeno games. And since I wasn't spoiled, I was legit wide eyed and gasping at some of the story beats (especially at the mechonis core if anyone remembers that) and they completely surprised me by making the stuff that seemed obvious have a twist within a twist, so that I was actually surprised and shocked.

It truly goes without saying just how much of a masterpiece Xenoblade 1 is, yet I still feel compelled to mention it because of just how impactful it was compared to the half finished, mediocre ones that came before it.

The less said about the gutpunch/knife stab that is the crummy sequel, the better. I've never seen such a 180 change and discarding of everything that made Xenoblade 1 great, being done before.

I on the other hand went to blaze pizza my first time, which I was convinced of since you can choose your toppings and see them cook it in front of you, so I had all the veggie toppings I wanted and could ask for extra tomato pizza sauce for good measure. An ASMRist on YouTube was eating pizza "for the first time!" on Sunday. Said he couldn't before because of the cheese. Makes me wonder if he's telling the truth since you can just ask for no cheese, or if you make it yourself not add any.

Is it really pizza if there's no cheese though? I'm lactose intolerant and hate cheese just like he does, but when I ask for pizza no cheese my friends give me this "really dude" look and laugh it off.

On the one hand, I felt I had a kindred spirit in a fellow cheese avoidant but on the other, I find his claim hard to believe because even I have a distinct memory of eating pizza at my cousins house when I was a kid before my lactose intolerance set in and got really bad.

I was a bit let down by it, but mpstly because I enjoyed the first 2 so much that I overhyped it for myself. It kinda reminded me of Lethal Weapon 4 with the aging angle, but the dynamoc between the 2 character just didn't age as well for Smith/Lawrence as it did for Glover/Gibson imo. Still liked it and had some great action, but it fell pretty short of the first 2 for me.

You were looking forward to it? Most of the "decades later" sequels are always terrible, especially all those TV show revivals, so I always go in with low expectations.

I don't think anything compares to the Riggs/Murtaugh dynamic though, you literally grow up with those characters and see them get married, lose loved ones, gain new ones, have kids, it's an emotionally journey from the first movie all the way to the 6th

Also realized the father-son angle is their way of doing a sequel hook or reboot for "the new generation" that's been tried so many times now with action movies.

I like how with Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible, Jeremy Renner was meant to be the next "it" action star and replace him and Tom Cruise was like "nah, fuck that" and (as a 50 year old) continued to do badass stunts and basically make the latter 3 MI movies 10 times better than the first 3 MI movies ever were.

If you are on playstation and care about trophies like that, there is a trophy for seeing every single enemy mystic arte used on you. (Bump up the difficulty a tad so the bosses than is capable of using them will actually use them). Other than that, berseria thankfully does not do the abyss and vesperia thing like having a shit ton of time-sensitive missable sidequests and all that, so you can easily go through the game blind if you wanted to.

Berseria, like zestiria, are actually PS3 games though (berseria's PS3 version was never localized, but its a thing in japan), which is why the models do not really look as good as they could have on a PS4 or PC.

Ah they're ports I forgot about that. I'd heard of zestiria but steered clear of it and moved straight to Berseria even after hearing it's a sequel.

But does it really not do the whole Tales thing of missable cutscenes/sidequests/items if you don't sleep at an inn at a specific point in the story or talk to someone at a certain point in time etc?

Just curious. By Vesperia I'd learned to let most of that stuff go go and play semi-blind for like 75% of the game. Even if it meant missing skits much to my chagrin.
