Yeah, the Case 2 culprits is a pretty weak field. I think all other fields when dividing by case is pretty solid. Its weird having L-2s culprit in my top 3 here.

This is actually the strongest set of defendants. Good choices. 6-6 is the weakest here and I would still take her over any of the unlikable defendants.

I think it's 6-5 or 5-5 here. Going with 6-5 just because of how strong a presence he leaves in the game.

1-4 and 2-4 are far above the rest, but the rest isn't so bad. Except 6-4. He's so bad.

Espella is....just not a very interesting character at all. Complete plot device. I like her design, though.

It's probably 6-2 because it really builds up Trucy's character, more than 1-2 or 2-2 does for Maya.

Culprit by case definitely makes sense. I prefer by case for victims and defendants just because that's a more unique spin on a typical ranking.

Defendant > Culprit > Victim in order, though. Victims are boring.

Emeer is so good. I might even put him as a top 10 witness in the series if we're taking out all major characters. Seeing him back in L-3 with Birdly as his own personal bard is so good.

I do appreciate Wordsmith though.

Eh, I like AAI2's soundtrack. I like the aggression of it.

AAI1 is probably the best OST in the series, though, and fits really well with Edgeworth's personality.

So many solid witnesses. It's Debeste for sure, but I also appreciate Hall and Dogen. Special shoutout to Amnesiac Kay in E2-4 too.

Best AJ exclusive character is probably still Kristoph. I think they really nailed his presence down, its everything else that is lacking.

Valant is pretty good. He brings a lot of life into 4-0. I cant imagine how much of a slog that case would be without him.

Really solid set of options here. Every character here is pretty likable.

I think it's Cosmos here for me. Blackquill's section is pretty great, but all of 5-4 Day 2 is carried pretty much by Cosmos.

2-4 Adrian Andrews might be the most interesting witness in the whole series. Though, de Killer is just a few steps behind. Hell, even 2-4 Powers is a top tier witness testimony. 2-4 so damn good.

I think I missed commenting on PW1 yesterday, but there's a real solid slate of witnesses there. 1-4 Larry is Larry at his best, Cody is the first real shake-up in the whole series and sets the bar high, and Polly is of course Polly. I voted Marshall because I think he brings a lot of life to 1-5, but any one of those could easily get my vote.

Always my favorite of the NPC rooms. There's not really a go-to option here and it really depends on your build. If you have a lot of rares and epics, it's Ambrosia. If you haven't gotten a lot of poms, I'd take Pom. I know some people like Nectar, but I don't usually pick that one too often. Maybe if you're going for a Zeus build and you haven't picked up the Jolt boon yet or something similar that needs revving up.

I missed Sisyphus yesterday. Obol's definitely what I always pick nowadays (and Bouldy!), but Darkness is probably the right choice from a more all-encompassing view. If you have Dark Regeneration, it also functions as health!

On individual cases...

G1-1 - Great opening case. The dynamics between Japan and Brett is really good. All the characters have a nice character arc to them.
G1-2 - Horrible case. Killing off Asogi is fine, but 1-2, this is not. It's just kind of a meaningless death with a culprit, but not really.
G1-3 - Great case, but it literally lacks an ending by not finding out who the culprit is. I think everything about the case had to making to be a solid classic like 2-2, but without that final pursuit, it's just kinda...there.
G1-4 - This case confuses me in a lot of ways. I just don't understand the purpose of this case.

Overall, "good but not great" kinda sums it up. Characters are solid. I love the main characters. I think they all play off each other very well. I liked the multiple witnesses in PLvPW and it's used well here too. Jury is another nice thing to have. But it doesn't really have the highs of the other AA games.

I'm excited for this. I played some of the fan translation of GAA1 but unfortunately was unable to continue after finishing case 4. It's great that it's coming out in just a few months.

DL-6 is just such an instant classic in so many ways. Nothing has really lived up to it since.

Though, I will give a shoutout to the class trial. I always loved that piece of backstory connecting Phoenix, Larry, and Edgeworth.

definitely a little messier than ranking the case 1s, where it feels pretty clear where to tier each case. pretty huge gap between 5-2 and 1-2.

it's interesting seeing the main games pretty clearly above the spin-offs. I guess the spin-offs just aren't very good with their case 2s because it's usually an extended introduction case, either to the "world" or the investigation minigames

Wily 2 from MM3 always makes me think of this enemy headbopping to the music. I think because he shows up in the very beginning of one of the stages.



Kinda sad that it's out; that was always my favorite of the non-iconic songs.

Wily 1 in MM10 is also one of my favorites, but yeah, it only really works when playing in-game just due to all the music changes fitting with the stage. Splitting up the music does weaken it.

I kinda agree to LMS's point. Politics has really become kinda 1:1 to pop culture, including Star Wars but also including a whole lot of other things too. It's really easy to sorta divide things on political lines and Youtube Video Essays are encouraged to buy into those things to get more clicks and, thus, more money.

I do, however, think it's funny that LMS recognizes all of this and yet continues to perpetuate this viewpoint.

I rewatched MCU recently. Ant-Man 1 was really boring on the rewatch when focusing on things other than Pym, while Ant-Man and the Wasp was surprisingly delightful and captured that lighthearted tone really well.

I didn't really get the Mysterio scene (assuming you're talking about the one where he shows Peter a bunch of illusions and messes with him). Just felt like a standard "main character sees a bunch of illusions" scene.

As a big Mysterio fan, it was really incredible seeing him fully realized on the big screen. Illusion scene is top notch and he even has the fish helmet costume. Too bad it was only for one scene.

There's a story in the game. The incentive to complete the run is to unlock more of the story. After completing the story, it becomes more about optimizing, yeah.

The things that carry over in the game are permanent abilities. Stuff like being able to dash twice, being able to revive with 50% health after dying, etc. When you play the game, the only things that carry over from run to run are the resources:

Darkness - Used to buy Mirror Talents, which are permanent abilities
Gemstones - Used to buy cosmetic upgrades
Nectar - Used to further side narratives
Titan Blood - Used to permanently upgrade your weapons
Diamonds - Used to buy music and other cosmetic upgrades
Ambrosia - Used to finish side narratives

The gameplay is just really fun. It's fast-paced. Each weapon really brings its own playstyle, which are furthered even more by the randomized aspect of each run, since most of the random elements changes how you use the weapon. The characters and narrative are pretty strong, which is great because roguelikes tend to have fairly weak aesthetics and narrative.
