TopicIf your rent is $1,000 a month how much should you make a year?
IdiotMachine
04/08/21 8:07:59 AM
#26
Let's quickly estimate per month:
Rent: $1,000
Utilities (usually only electric and cable): $200
Phone/cell service: $100
Car: $200
Gas/car insurance: $200
Groceries: $300
Savings for necessary misc. costs (clothing, furniture, etc.): $100

That adds up to $2,100/mo -> $25k/year after tax -> $32k pre-tax.

So if your rent is $1000, to just barely make it, you want $32k/year.

Should I tip?

Assuming everything goes to plan and he doesnt do something amazing, should I be tipping the dishwasher install guy?

I bought a dishwasher from Costco, and Costco offers free install and haul away of the old one (they did not include uninstall, so I unhooked up everything last night).

I wonder if I should tip $10 or so... Im thinking Ill tip him $10 only if he does the full job. Because Ive also read that they will not do electrical if its a hard wire job; theyll hook up everything, then wait for you to hook up the hard wire, then theyll finish the job. Reviewers on Costco.com seem to say this is because of code / theyre not registered electricians or something like that.

Thoufhts?

Well this topic blew up... when I call them tomorrow, Im going to tell them the truth, that I did want to have the tree taken away, but I was waiting on quotes, and see where we go from there.

Also in my experience, @Perascamin is right: for small jobs, after I down select and pick a company, Ive never had to sign contracts; they just did the job and sent me an invoice, and I paid it. For example, pest removal, window caulking, chimney sweeping, etc.

Looking closer at the invoice, the address was incorrect. It was (for example) 513 Main St (neighbors address) instead of 531 Main St (my address). So walked over there and asked, and sure enough, they hired the company.

Ill update this tomorrow evening after I get a chance to talk to the company tomorrow. They didnt grind the stump down, so Id at least like to get rid of the stump.

You guys are actually stupid if you think this is something worth running to a lawyer for. I'm glad TC isn't taking up any of those dumb ass posts lmao.

Even if he opened a case for "omg my stolen tree!!! That i was going to have removed anyways!!" :

1. You would NOT get a good settlement for such a small amount of fiscal property

2. The Lawyer is going to cost 30x more than what this is worth

3. It would only make it to small claims court, proving that trying to get a lawyer would be utterly fucking pointless.
Yea, I dont see the point of lawyering up for this. I just dont want to be ripped off and paying this company $300 when $100 would have been enough.

I wanted the tree gone and its gone; just want to be reasonable about it.

TC if you're an honest guy just call the invoice and calmly explain what happened. There is a very, very low chance that some guy is going around randomly cutting up trees and leaving invoices for people who didn't ask for the service to be completed. There is likely just a mistake somewhere.

Also $300 for that tree is perfectly reasonable and probably a little bit below market value tbh. Tree services are expensive because of the insurance required, licensure, the equipment to cut up the tree/clean up the area, and the trailer used to haul it all away.

Were you away from home when the tree was picked up?
Yea I'll call them tomorrow. And yea, I was away all morning. Came back and saw the tree missing, and the invoice at my door.

Today, this morning, this random guy (who I didn't call) apparently cut up the tree, loaded it all up on his truck, and left. He left an invoice on my door, asking me to pay him $300 for the work.

I have a 2019 Volkswagen Golf, purchased new, and it came with Bridgestone Ecopia tires. They have about 11k miles on them, and now the treads are less than 4/32". They are evenly worn; I have regularly had tire rotations and alignments done as well. This doesn't seem right at all, considering Bridgestone's site has a 70k mileage prorated warranty on them.

Bridgestone says the tires have no warranty on them because they're OEM (supplied with the new car). Volkswagen service rep says there's nothing they can do, and advised I get new tires.

The Volkswagen mechanic says that OEM tires are actually made differently than the same tire that consumers get, and that they are softer and last significantly less than normal tires that consumers have access to. Is this true? Should I be fighting Volkswagen to try to get some money for new tires, or just get new tires?
