Topic | Amazon is desparate as union vote looms |
IdiotMachine 02/26/21 12:28:50 PM #34 | I guess as a salaried employee, I do have privileges afforded to me. For example, I can take time off whenever I want, don't have to work 40 hours a week, don't have to abide by working hours... hell, there are times at work when I say "fuck this I don't want to be here anymore", and just get up and leave at 1pm without needing approval or anything. --- |

IdiotMachine 02/26/21 12:09:03 PM #13 | Yes, but we don't use it. IdiotMachine 02/26/21 11:56:07 AM #12 | Shadow Don posted... You'd be begging for a union if your company had working conditions like Amazon warehouses.Oh I don't disagree. What I'm saying is the opposite end of the spectrum (a union that's too big and powerful) is also a terrible thing. I hope these Amazon employees get their union, but also doesn't let it get too big to fail. 90% of the stuff I order off of Amazon, I absolutely do not need it tomorrow... let these guys relax. --- |

IdiotMachine 02/26/21 11:54:55 AM #11 | Robot2600 posted... Maybe everyone gives too much of a shit and these Union guys have it right. You bust your ass for your company and you know how much profit they make off of you.Customers (like you) demand urgency on the things they pay for, rightfully so. If anything I do requires drafting support, I have to work harder to get things done "in time" for drafters to draft something up, since it takes them a week to even do anything. Every time I walk over to their building, I always see them browsing reddit. It's insane. --- |

IdiotMachine 02/26/21 11:49:36 AM #4 | I'm an engineer, and every single time I deal with a unionized employee within our company (drafters or facilities), I hate our interactions. They never have a sense of urgency to them; it takes literally weeks to get anything done (getting a desk installed, getting a door installed, getting ethernet drops, etc.). And if there are any issues (not done correctly, or way past the quoted time), we literally can't even talk to them. We talk to their managers, who talk to their union reps, and then that finally gets filtered down to the unionized employee, who doesn't give a shit. We had a ticket in to get a TV mounted on a wall in a conference room, and that was finally done ~1 year after we issued the ticket. It's insane. --- |

IdiotMachine 02/26/21 11:45:19 AM #4 | Squall28 posted... Don't they already have poor kid lunch programs? I remember my parents trying to get me on there, but I didn't make the cut.I think that's entirely state dependent. I know back when I was in grade school, lunch was literally cheaper than dirt, at $1 for the standard hot meal. Other stuff was (relatively) significantly more expensive (like chips/bottled drinks were $1.50). --- |

IdiotMachine 02/26/21 11:42:08 AM #1 | This is an old story, but it propped up on my YouTube recommendations for some reason: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULd2uHXRiSs TL;DW - Kid noticed other kids not getting lunch. He started collecting bottles, asking for donations, etc., and two weeks later, paid off ~300 lunches. Two opposing thoughts from this: 1) Why is this even a thing? Increase our taxes by like $1 or something to be able to pay off all kid's lunches. This is bullshit that kids have to starve at school. 2) If it was so easy for this kid to collect bottles and collect donations to pay off for so many lunches, why haven't other kids done this to pay off their own lunches? --- |

IdiotMachine 02/23/21 12:30:58 AM #1 | This is a key fact in most of the United States that a lot of people seem to not understand. Its not the house that appreciates, but the land does. The house itself, like almost all property, depreciates. --- |

IdiotMachine 02/21/21 3:16:41 PM #1 | On average, 5x7 prints, which are only +46% in area when compared to 4x6 prints, cost a whopping ~6.5 times more than 4x6 prints. On average, 8x10 prints, which are +233% in area when compared to 4x6 prints, cost a whopping ~32 times more than 4x6 prints. Why are 4x6 so cheap, when compared to 5x7 and 8x10? --- |

IdiotMachine 02/19/21 8:14:38 AM #14 | I mean theres a contract for a reason. If you violate it, its up to both parties to decide whether or not to change it. The lower management obviously doesnt have the power to change the contract to pay a $1 million bill; when upper management heard about it, they reversed course because its bad PR and for humanity. --- |
