Everytime I hear X community is nice its always the furthest thing from nice.

I've dealt with a lot of different communities. The most recent one I've been in had a lot of twitter-isms in it, and generally a bunch of "well I don't want to talk about that" as a response to any sort of criticism. Also even saying "that sounds more like depression" is met with 10 people rolling in with "what's all this about unrequested psychiatric advice, how dare they".
The one before that was 4chan-derived, where places banning the n-word was considered a heinous crime by a not-insignificant number of people.

This is the only community I've seen where I can say things like "I like 4e DnD", and not get shit on immediately, because people will listen to me. Where, when I ask about a game, and for someone to show me the ropes, someone showed up, and has spent a solid 6 hours playing games with me, just to explain the mechanics. Where people are more than willing to just help out and show the various pdfs of the rulebooks, because someone was just randomly curious.

It's not perfect, you still get your fair share of assholes, and internet-badasses. But, like, fuck man, it's hard to find a place with a decent amount of people and it not being the worst from one thing or another.

Every, and I mean every, other TTRPG, videogame, wargame, whatever, community I've seen has a deep shitty and holier-than-thou streak through it.

Ah, so let's just go through the basic types of combat lasers: pulse lasers, IR lasers, and continues beam lasers.

At the moment, we don't have pulse lasers in actual combat. In theory, pulse lasers can go into the GW of energy range. That amount of energy is enough to vaporize metal and cause all sorts of issues. The issue is that, at the end of the day, it's still just light, so a sufficiently reflective material can just... bounce the laser off.

IR lasers are what are used for targeting a lot of the time. Basically, you have a laser shooting out light at a frequency too low for humans to see, but plenty bright for machines to see. So you lase a target, hold it steady on them, and then drop a missile targeted on that lase point. It's illegal (or a warcrime, I'm not smart enough to figure that out) to have a machine do that lasing, so it's done all through human hands. In the future maybe that changes, but that's what it is right now, and what people use right now.

Modern continues beam lasers basically just fuck up cameras. There's some sort of AI that hones in on the sensing module, blast it with lasers, so it fucks up the honing part of a honing missile. The term the navy uses is "dazzle", and that's what you see in the navy ships (I was looking it up because I like lasers). These don't need to be super powerful, it just needs to be accurate.
It's also illegal (or a war crime) to use lasers to blind someone. That's way easier to do than you think, I've got a 1.2W handheld laser that I mess around with, and that can easily blind someone. If you had an AI that just blinded all of the enemies, it would do way more damage than you would ever imagine.

EDIT:
Oh right, the units can be either watts, or lumens for a laser. Either's fine, people use watts for the technical side, but there's no reason to not use lumens.

Yes, you are correct, immunocompromised people cannot get certain types of vaccines.

If he is a addict the best you can do is offer support and suggest AA meetings or something if he wants to help himself.

There's someone I know online who would take two shots at lunch, and drink 20-25 beers a night.

Well, it's more accurate to say that the crew of TNG's enterprise are the 0.1% "perfect people" group who want to work for the sake of working even if it kills them.

There are a few preachy TNG episodes that talk about how all of humanity is that way now, people don't fear death and just want to keep improving humanity, and old humanity was weird for not thinking the same, but that is not reflected in many other Star Trek shows outside of TNG (even within the same timeline).

Hell, we don't even see the B Crew who has to walk in after a hellscape episode and figure out what the hell they did to the engine.
