The biggest fault lies with GW, of course, for going all into invading the country in the first place and doing an all-around horrible jump setting up our puppet government.

Obama allowed himself to be bullied into staying and doing a surge by the generals, even after they killed bin Laden and even after he had won a second term and was immune to any fall-out for leaving. Just another example of his rank political cowardice.

Trump? Trump f***ed up everything he ever touched.

And Biden? He put too much faith in our puppet government by expecting it survive for months and was left scrambling to get everyone out and going hat in hand to the Taliban for help doing so. That crime is much lesser.

Yeah, never had a baby, but it sounds like its a really rough adjustment, in part because they dont sleep through the night for a bit. When youre that tired and stressed, youre not going to be up for much.

I think I do pretty well, overall. Certainly I have managed to lose about 20 lbs. so far this year. Its important, of course, to eat well: dont be having red meat or fried food every meal, but you also need to eat a variety of different proteins, veggies, and fruits to make sure youre getting an optimal variety of micronutrients.
My struggle is portion-size, but Im doing better on it now. Also cut down hard on snacking and drink a little less(beer is more or less empty calories).

Only other organ I ever ate was a calf heart. It was like $2(!) for the whole thing and looked gnarly, but once you cut out all the scary-looking vasculature and cube it, it becomes beef. Tender, slightly chewy beef. It was pretty good, but I havent seen one since.

RFK probably wouldn't have won the nomination(it was still more lobbying in smoke-filled backrooms than actual voting, and LBJ was still influential and hated RFK's guts), and it's not like Humphrey was a completely terrible candidate or that Nixon and Kissinger wouldn't have sabotaged the peace conference.
RFK probably wins the nom in '72 or at least keeps it closer in '68 though Nixon would still be a heavy favorite in '72, but it would never have been such a cataclysmic wipeout without McGovern's incompetence.

They've really fallen off recently.
It wasn't long ago they interviewed everyone from a Slovakian woman who told them about her experience in her country during WW2*, interviewed a male and a female porn star about the industry, interviewed a former Viet Cong guerilla, etc. etc.
Like...really cool stuff. And they used to be funnier. I still laugh at it sometimes, but not as often or as hard.
And that's just scratching the surface. Must have suffered some budget cuts and/or change in direction.

*The piece I'll never forget is that she took the train to school, but one day, when she and a few friends were walking to the station, a man coming from that direction stopped them and said something like, "You shouldn't go to school today." So they turned around and went home. Later, she learned that the rail line had been sabotaged by the resistance.

Lucky you. My AP US History teacher had a talking bobble head Bill Clinton doll which said, among other quotes I did not have sexual relations with that woman and that depends on what your definition of the word is is, and once gave to our class, as a homework assignment, two papers of equal length, one on the ACLU, and the other on the ACLJ, as though the organizations were simply two sides of the same coin. He would later go on to be quoted in a Huffington Post article, in which he compared Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler during a speech he gave at a local Tea Party rally.
Ugh. I'm sorry.
Reminds me of one American History professor in college. He was a full-on Southern apologist who would rant about "states' rights" and even said at one point the Southerners were right to be outraged the abolitionists wanted to take away "their property".
The other American history professor I had was an old Korean guy who would go off on tangents of varying quality and intimated the only parties that would gain from setting fire to New York in the Revolutionary War were the rebels and George Washington. So, in other words, he was pretty good.

Not sure I agree.

People who don't know their history are doomed to repeat it and make really bad decisions

Theres a reason why Trump supporters and conspiracy theorists tend to have very poor educations and lack of historical knowledge. Lack of understanding history leads to ideologies like "Why don't we just build a massive wall?" and "Our army is so strong we can just steamroll a smaller one and insert a new strong government there"

it might not be as quantifiable as learning math and writing, but learning history and more importantly how to understand history is vital to a strong society
Actually, a lot of them are white middle class professionals. But I digress: very few Americans receive anything approaching an adequate education in American history, let alone the history of anywhere or anything else.
A lot of people completely wig out at the mere suggestion that our history is a sordid tale of brutality, elite malfeasance, and impending dissolution.

ElatedVenusaur
08/24/21 2:07:20 PM

Yeah, "remake" is the best verb to use here. Parts of those games were great(and most of those still are!), but lots of other parts just...weren't. Haven't played the first one ever, but a cliff-notes sort of list of things they would need to fix/re-do in SA2 include:

-Ironing out the kinks in the physics engine. Its shortcomings are painfully apparent in Final Chase, for example, which relies on a lot of conceptually-cool physics-based obstacles that tend to break down in unexpected(and usually fatal) ways. But there are other things: the noticeable homing attack hiccups, change-of-direction, etc. Luckily, these are problems they solved in the boost games(not that boosting should be involved here).

-Emerald hunting is a pain, but an easy fix is to simply port in SA1's emerald radar mechanics, which would greatly reduce tedium. Allowing Knuckles and Rouge to run/glide/climb faster(optionally, ideally) would also make it more convenient to traverse levels

-The walker levels...I almost feel like they would be better if they leaned more into the shooter aspect. Either that, or make them quicker/nimbler and more responsive so that the platforming isn't such a pain. Obviously, these are the levels that are consistently weakest, but I've always been partial to Cosmic Wall, myself.

-Good God the camera is some aughts platformer garbage. A modern camera and the ability to use the right stick to re-orient it would be a god-send.

-Give us way more stuff for getting Emblems. Concept art, remixed tracks from other Sonic games, a few Adventure-style renderings of iconic stages from earlier and later games, etc.

-Expand the Chao Garden. Give us a ton of ways to customize them, let us customize the gardens, give us a bunch of different stuff to do and let us compete against other players online. Is your Chao the goodest/baddest Chao in the world?

-Don't touch the music, just clean it up and it's good to go.

-Let the plot remain its senseless self. SA2 has the good sense to lean into being stupid cheese.

Ive used the ladys room before Im not out and still very much look like I belong in the mens room, FYI. Once was accidental: I needed to go and didnt pay attention to the signs lol. I did my business, stepped out of the stall, deduced from the lack of urinals where I was, sheepishly washed my hands and left. The other time, it was a simple matter of the stall in the mens room being occupied and the choice of where to poop being the ladys room or my pants. I hurried in then and the sweet Haitian maintenance lady blessed my enterprise.

As for the inverse, a female classmate asked to use the stall in the mens room when our class was returning from a trip and the ladys room had a long line ~75% of my classmates in that study abroad program were women, so no surprise there. We urged her to avail herself of it, and a few other women followed in her example.

Somehow, this all passed without incident. Its almost like 99.9% of all people seeking to enter a bathroom have no intention but to use the toilet! Mind blowing, I know.

Also, I feel its clear to make note of something: the Taliban almost certainly isnt popular with Afghans as a whole, but it has legitimacy, because it used to (nominally, at least) run the show and, more importantly, it was the largest group fighting us: the occupiers. That the government we created was completely terrible sealed the deal. The Talibans victory has been a fait accompli for years now, and these factors explain the rapid collapse of resistance: why die pointlessly for people who suck, when surrendering or just keeping your head down means you can stay alive? Even before we left, our puppets power reached only a scant few cities where our troops were.

Well, I dont think there should be limits on immigration at all, so.not sure where youre coming from here. I doubt there are leftists here who wouldnt welcome refugees with open arms. And I look askance at anyone who feels otherwise.

Its just that, in the end, you cant impose a state upon others and expect it to take. Particularly when that state encompasses several different nations.
