I "took a break" from One Piece early on in the Wano Arc. I think there was some Zoro filler that I wasn't interested in. Never picked it back up again. Probably going to wait for One Piece Kai.

Final Remix is the switch version of the original. The gameplay is kinda awkward due to one screen tho, so yeah just watch the cutscenes. The anime is a distilled adaptation, but it's still pretty good on its own way

It's also really confusing. I have no idea how they expected the game to make money...a direct sequel to a game that didn't sell great. There's a ton of innovation and cool mechanics, but nothing to attract and draw in players who didn't play the first game.

IIRC they had been wanting to make a sequel for years, and when the anime started production Nomura went all "eh screw it, we'll never get another chance if we pass this one up".

Etiher way, I prefer the original a bit, but this is still a more than worthy sequel

Mewtwo: in the cerulean cave (which was restored)
Articuno: in seafoam islands (which was also restored)
Zapdos: at the power plant
Moltres: in mount silver (I think it was in a new part of the mountain?)
Kyogre or groudon were in a tower you can find in one of the new routes, and you'd get rayquaza if you brought both of them with you
Dialga/palkia/giratina were given an entire new little area called Sinjoh ruins that you'd be teleported to if you took arceus to the ruins of alph. they made a whole event out of it with a cut scene and lore where you see Arceus give birth to the pokemon.
Latias/Latios, it gave you a stone which you'd take to the pewter museum to get evaluated. steven stone would tell you it's a soul dew, and then the pokemon would appear and fight you

Celebi also has a really cool event in those games where he takes you back in time and you learn about giovanni and his son. although you don't catch celebi from the event.

that's all on top of the legendaries from johto, which got cool locations also like the bell tower/whirl islands and suicune's appearances along with Eusine.

The legends used to get some good lore and curated attention in the games. Those games really worked them into their regions quite naturally

BW2 did so as well, and both ORAS and SwSh CT had a few cool ones

On the one hand, I get why they do this. There are so many legendary Pokemon now that it's difficult to integrate them naturally into the environment without completely redrawing the map or adding a whole other region.

On the other hand, having a Legendary Safari Zone is only slightly less half-assed than Max Lair raids or the dimension shit from ORAS and SM.

tbh I prefer the lair raids. Sure they make no sense lore-wise, but I like the challenge. Those and U.Necrozma are some of the only times where it FEELS you're fighting a legendary creature

Which season are good and which are meh? Season 2 is said to be the best arc, I'd hate to think it all goes downhill from there.

2 is great, 3 has a great first half, 4...depends, if you're more into the action you'll prefer the first half, if you're more into the school you'll prefer the second, 5 has a boring first half and a poorly adapted second half (which is a shame because one of the arcs in said second half is one of my favorites in the manga)

The Fishman Island arc was extremely boring and Wano has dragged on for way too long, but other than that I agree that the quality has been consistently great

tbh with Wano it's more of a weekly vs binge watch experience. Now could the arc still fumble it up? Yeah (I mean I wasn't a fan of what happened in the latest chapter), but so far it's still amazing overall.

The main point I'm making (and didn't actually explain in my OP) is that Bleach, Naruto, and pretty much any other manga that tried to run for this long eventually managed to crush themselves under the weight of all the plot contrivances. Like Bleach just set up all these characters and then cheaped out on the ending and rushed it through, and left everyone feeling like the entire thing was both too complicated and too underwhelming at the same time.

One Piece keeps getting more complicated but somehow hasn't done that. It's always just more joy, more adventure, higher stakes and yet the original stakes still matter.

Then again OP is still ongoing, while Naruto (idk about Bleach) really only fell on its final arc. Then again I'm sure Oda has things planned better than Kishimoto

The backlash began with the trailer of Ellie kissing Dinah. Everything that came later on added a metric fuckton of fuel to the fire, but I think people were prepared to go into this angry because The SJWs Are Ruining Gaming.

You can see how people wanted any excuse to bitch in the way they tried to disprove Abby's physique based on her diet, saying her musculature is too unrealistic as if that's a make or break detail. Like she's a part of a post-apocalyptic paramilitary group, of course she's gonna be buff. You don't need to pore over fuckin in-game meal plans to say "she's too fit for the setting, this is a critical immersion-breaking detail that ruins the entire game". That shit is looking for problems to nitpick.

The worst part of the nuclear backlash to this game is that it totally fucked up legitimate criticism of it, because you're either for the game or against it with no in between. I think it's a solid 7/10, the ending felt tacked on and I do agree that the game is stretched out a ton and wears out its welcome. That criticism has to share screentime with "SJWs made an unrealistic buff women", because that's one of the criticisms that took centre stage when the game was most relevant. It feels like you either have to regard the game with some apocalyptic level of scorn, or you have to defend it on some level, because that's what the conversation demands of anyone who takes part in it.

Like I wanted to have a legitimately critical and productive conversation about the good and bad aspects of the game when it came out. But from the first trailer to its release, it became clear that no matter what happened, that conversation was going to be drowned out by overwrought, toxic bullshit. It's fine to dislike where this game went, or to not like it at all, and it's fine to express your frustration about it - but so much of the backlash was anti-SJW horseshit that people were posting as a matter of principle rather than because they wanted to talk about the game. It made it next to impossible to actually engage with good-faith posters who wanted to talk about their experiences with the game, whether they be positive or negative.

so pretty much like TLJ where it's still bad, but the legitimate criticisms towards the game itself got drowned out by pointless nitpicks and rambling?

They're fighting some of the last bosses right now, not much left. The fights are moving pretty slow, but the main plot is clearly moving. Maybe don't expect the series to try to rush to the end? It's still moving faster than Detective Conan.
