yeah I can't find a way so far. you have to visit the site it's on, find it if possible, and then use copy image link. (you could use 'copy image' which will copy the image contents to the copy buffer).

on bing it's similar, but there is also a "view image" option that will give you the direct link to the original file.

the end result of this isn't robot uprising, it's grey-goo

basically, once you have a nano-bot that can self-replicate, and do so in a normal earth environment by making use of the available resources... then theoretically they will self-replicate exponentially consuming all available resources and spreading across the globe as a "grey goo".

it's actually plausible (in some sense that's already what animals/life are, but this would be at a microscopic scale; and they would reproduce asexually only by building more of themselves.)

The relevant text (surprisingly long but interesting):

In the year 2000 of the history of the cosmos, representatives from the many different planets in the galaxy established a congress called the Galactic Federation, and an age of prosperity began. A successful exchange of cultures and civilization resulted, and thousands of interstellar spaceships ferried back and forth between planets. But space pirates also appeared to attack the spaceships.

The Federation Bureau created the Galactic Federation Police, but the pirates' attacks were powerful and it was not easy to catch them in the vastness of space. The Federation Bureau and the Federation Police called together warriors known for their great courage and sent them to do battle with the pirates. These great warriors were called "space hunters." They received large rewards when they captured pirates, and made their living as space bounty hunters. It is now year 20X5 of the history of the cosmos, and something terrible has happened. Space pirates have attacked a deep-space research spaceship and seized a capsule containing an unknown life-form that had just been discovered on Planet SR388.

This life-form is in a state of suspended animation, but can be reactivated and will multiply when exposed to beta rays for 24 hours. It is suspected that the entire civilization of Planet SR388 was destroyed by some unknown person or thing, and there is a strong possibility that the lifeform just discovered was the cause of the planet's destruction. To carelessly let it multiply would be extremely dangerous. The Federation researchers had named it "Metroid" and were bringing it back to Earth when it was stolen by the space pirates!

If Metroid is multiplied by the space pirates and then used as a weapon, the entire galactic civilization will be destroyed. After a desperate search, the Federation Police have at last found the pirates' headquarters, the fortress planet Zebes, and launched a general attack. But the pirates' resistance is strong, and the Police have been unable to take the planet. Meanwhile, in a room hidden deep within the center of the fortress, the preparations for multiplying the Metroid are progressing steadily. As a last resort, the Federation Police have decided on this strategy: to send a space hunter to penetrate the center of the fortress and destroy the Mother Brain.

The space hunter chosen for this mission is Samus Aran. He is the greatest of all the space hunters and has successfully completed numerous missions that everybody thought were absolutely impossible. He is a cyborg: his entire body has been surgically strengthened with robotics, giving him superpowers. Even the space pirates fear his space suit, which can absorb any enemy's power. But his true form is shrouded in mystery.

The planet Zebes is a natural fortress. Its sides are covered with a special kind of stone, and its interior is a complicated maze. On top of that, the pirates have planted devices and booby traps in the maze, and the pirates' eery followers lie in wait around every corner. Samus has now succeeded in penetrazing Zebes. But time is running out. Will he be able to destroy the Metroid and save the galaxy?

after much reading I think I sort of get it.

I'm thinking of "undead" to mean like a reversing of death (like animation of a corpse).

that is actually close to the concept, but I guess it's more like a reversing of (or nullification of) mortality, regardless of whether you are dead or not. so, making oneself immortal basically. it's not necessarily undoing a death that has already occurred, it's removing oneself (or a creature, w/e) from the normal bounds of mortality. apply it to a corpse, you get a zombie, since the body is no longer "dead". apply it to someone who is alive, you get something more like a vampire since they are "alive" but having had their mortality removed are now "immortal". (I guess... who knows... and then I wonder... why are ghouls undead?)

I'm starting to think Jesus never existed... I mean, supposedly there's a secular source of an execution record, but I can't find it

captpackrat posted...
There are numerous references to Jesus in ancient writings, such as the works of the Jewish historian Josephus and the Roman historian Tacitus.

from what I've heard, something like there's no record of Jesus's execution despite Roman's keeping thorough records of that kind of thing, and the one Roman that does mention him is referring to him as a phenomenon or concept not an actual record of someone. like us talking about a famous person. we could be talking about George Clooney or George Jetson, it's just evidence of the idea not of the historical person.

though, I think I would say he probably existed (maybe, who knows). it's much easier to imagine the way things went if it was spawned from an actual set of events rather than just made up from scratch. also, if you read the new testament, to me parts of it paint a pretty clear picture of the sort of "scam" operation that you would run in those days.

"magic" in ancient times was the same sleight-of-hand tricks that we know today, and that's exactly the kind of parlor tricks that he went around doing (water to wine, bread and fishes, walking on water, "healing", etc.etc., exactly the kinds of things you would do to convince ancient people (and some modern people) of magic).

(and then, after he was executed, and supposedly resurrected, they have a guy that no one recognizes (not even people who knew him), and waltz him around telling people that even though they don't recognize him it "must" be him just because of similar injuries he has. (it's easy to imagine him with impossible wounds or something (which is why this can be convincing), but it's also easy to imagine him with mundane "wounds" that still convince ancient people despite not actually being impressive.))

(the point here is, IMO the NT inadvertently describes this whole thing as the scam operation that it would have actually been. I see that as evidence that it's really describing (to some degree) what they were doing since a purely fantastical story "shouldn't" have that and could be way more far fetched. another way to say it is that it does seem to be grounded in some reality despite trying to be a magical story.)

I was going to say, the right answer here would be that it's a typo and f(3) should really equal 15. then we would have a proper grade 3 level question. the video says this and then just says "I don't think we can say it's a typo". at this point I think it's pretty obviously a typo. the video should just be seen as a hypothetical "how could we solve this problem anyway even knowing that it's not the intended question".

yes it makes a huge difference. I have some fairly cheap ones and just that effect alone is enough to make things more relaxing. even if the cheap ones don't make things completely silent, it softens everything and is just instantly relief if you're looking for peace.

more expensive ones are better still and block a ton of sound. (testing some expensive ones is what convinced me to buy some cheap ones. the cheap ones still let a lot of sound through but it's all softened. the expensive ones only seemed to let the loudest and lowest-frequency sounds through, like if you bang your hand on the table you can hear it faintly.)

another option I guess is to not really think mathematically and just think in terms of a pattern

f(1) = 5
f(2) = 10
f(3) = 55
f(4) = 100
f(5) = 555
f(6) = 1000
f(7) = 5555
f(8) = 10000
f(9) = 55555
f(10) = 100000

problem is these are all equally valid answers (maybe this one is simple enough for grade 3 though)

although a problem with the way this is asked is that you said "what is f?" elementary school students do not know what functions are. you only learn about functions in high school, and that's if you take the higher level math classes, which not everyone will. so yeah, asking grade 3s what "f" is makes no sense at all.

I was thinking of that but it doesn't really fit

you could say that the numbers are binary, with for some bizarre reason odd numbers using 5 as the '1' digit, and even numbers normal binary.

f(1) = 5
f(2) = 10
f(3) = 55
f(4) = 100
f(5) = 505
f(6) = 110
f(7) = 555
f(8) = 1000
f(9) = 5005
f(10) = 1010

that's way too complicated for grade 3 though

it's kind of ambiguous since there's something like an infinite number of functions that can generate that very short sequence.

let's say f(1) = 5 is constant, f(2) = 10 is constant
and then f(n), n > 2 = f(n - 1) * f(n - 2) + f(n - 2)

then f(3) = 10 * 5 + 5 = 55
and f(4) = 55 * 10 + 10 = 560

but that's just one option

I guess you don't mean for gameplay reasons but I always toy with the idea that the game-world should be to some degree aware of your ability to save/load because that is really the ultimate power that the player has at their disposable and is essentially time-travel as far as the game-world is concerned.

if you really wanted a boss to mess with the player, it should start to be able to "break the fourth wall" or whatever and really attack the player themselves in some way, but it's hard to see how you could get away with that without it just being a pain in the ass or even basically malware.
