Aw man, I just found out that William Russell died a few days ago. He was one of the Doctor's original companions, way back in the sixties (and he appeared in the 13th Doctor's finale as well).

First match: Poor Pawmot, it deserves better than this kind of blowout, especially paired with Pinkologne.
Second Match: How did Mothim make it past round 1?
Third Match: Pawmot dies, meanwhile one of these teams will live. Boo. At least Ponyta is good.
Fourth Match: Voting for the one that has a fully-evolved Pokemon in it, even if I like Pancham more than Roaring Moon.

And we have our winner. I was not expecting the finals to be a blowout, yet I guess it was inevitable when one side just had so much sheer diversity compared to the other (which I will admit, while it has high tier Pokemon across the board...there's almost no variety among them, and I imagine a lot of people are less inclined to love a bunch of those lines compared to picking and choosing). Anyway, by a final score of 36 to 20, Gen I Flying reigns supreme and takes home the crown over Gen I Fire, earning its title as the BEST type roster of ANY generation of Pokemon.

I've done this style of poll contest once before, back in either Gen VII or Gen VIII, so why not try it again now? The rules are simple: each day, I'm going to post a poll for a given Pokemon typing, with each generation's roster of new Pokemon filling in that typing. You just need to look at what each generation had to offer, and select which generation you think brought the best new roster (for any reason; you could say that a single Pokemon was so good that it overwhelms everything else the generation spawned, or you could select a generation that may be more well-rounded that the one that created your personal favorite). At the end of the day, one generation will be crowned a champion (with potential tiebreakers if need be), and that generation will advance to a second round, where the eighteen winners, and fourteen strongest runner-ups will be sorted into a 32-entrant tournament to crown which generation produced the best overall roster of a single typing.

The tournament has now begun. The discussion topic is here: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/8-gamefaqs-contests/80744044 and the bracket is here: https://www.bracketmaker.com/tlist.cfm?tid=478370

It's time for the finals. For all of its faults and flaws, stumbles and fumbles, at the end of the day, Gen I just could not be beaten in this contest, as our finals come down to the two Gen I rosters that managed to outlast all others en route to this point. Gen I Fire had a rough semifinal, nearly losing to Gen III Grass until a last minute tiebreaker sent things into extra innings. Meanwhile, Gen I Flying has breezed through its half of the bracket without encountering a solid challenger yet. Will this round finally test Gen I Flying's true strength, or will Gen I Fire end up looking down the barrel of a defeat as the contest's overall one-seed?

And we close out the semi-finals with Gen I Flying taking out one last opponent (it's strongest yet, really...but not strong enough). Yes, unlike the razor-thin margins of our first semi-final, this one was never really in doubt after a certain point, and by a vote of 23-18, Gen I Flying beats Gen III Psychic once and for all to secure a spot in the finals. Now, we're down to just Gen I, and we're going to find out who reigns supreme: Charizard and Moltres...or Moltres and Charizard.

Gen I Fire won yesterday's match-up, so now it's time to determine its final opponent. Gen III Psychic has proven a force in this contest, spending the first two rounds of the contest narrowly beating out its own compatriot Water roster, and then going on to take out a potential champion in Gen I Water, both by a single vote. However, it's biggest victory thus far saw it easily besting three-seeded Gen III Dragon to advance to the semifinals. It's opponent, meanwhile, has had a relatively easy bracket in my opinion. Gen VII Bug was a wild card, and then Gen VI Flying was a roster it had already beaten in the preliminaries, before taking out two-seeded Gen V Bug in the quarterfinals. Now granted, Gen I Flying won over Gen V Bug by the same margin that Gen III Psychic beat its Dragon brother, but I think one is much stronger than the other. Will the underdog triumph, or will Psychic prove its dominance in the bottom half of the bracket yet again?

Yesterday's match into overtime as both Gen I Fire and Gen III Grass proved they deserved to make it to the semifinals. After a back and forth battle that ended in a 19-19 tie vote at the end of twenty-four hours, another day was given, this time providing a solid winner to the match-up. By a vote of 24-22, Gen I Fire makes it into the final round, where it will face the winner of Gen III Psychic vs. Gen I Flying.

Gen V Fairy is at least better than Gen I Steel and Gen II Ghost.

Gen III Grass is a really strong roster. One I didn't think of before starting this contest. But the ONE drawback it has is Lileep/Cradily being utterly terrible. Meanwhile, Gen I Fire is largely perfect and iconic. It's worst Pokemon is Charmeleon, and even that is more due to being a horrible design that feels out of place between Charmander and Charizard.

We've reached the elite four with half the bracket from Gen I and half the bracket from Gen III. Both of our Elite Four match-ups will pit Gen I against Gen III, so it's entirely possible for one generation to run the table and guarantee a winner. But for now, we kick things off with overall one-seed Gen I Fire. To get this far, it had to defeat a pair of Gen IV rosters in wild card Ghost and low-seeded Fighting, and then took down the surprising member of the final 8 in Gen VI Dragon. It's key to point out, however, Gen I Fire has yet to face one of this tournament's big three yet: Gens 1, 3, and 5. Its first time facing a potential titan comes this round, with Gen III Grass. As the overall five-seed, Gen III Grass has shattered mnk's hopes and dreams by wiping out three Gen V rosters in a row and helping escort Unova from the tournament. But still, it hasn't faced Gen I yet, and Grass is at a type disadvantage against Fire. Who's going to come out on top and claim the first spot in our finals today? Let's find out.

Yesterday's match saw a slow start for Gen I Flying, but it ended up with a comfortable victory over the bracket's number two seed overall. It seems that Gen V Bug just couldn't stand up to the type advantage, and with Gen I Flying winning in a 22-16 vote, we have our final four. Two from Gen I, and two from Gen III.

Finishing out the quarterfinals, we have a type match-up that seems like a blowout in-game, but we're not talking game mechanics here. Gen V Bug came into this tournament as the overall two-seed, while Gen I Flying only managed tenth. However, Gen V has not gotten to the final four yet, while Gen I has. Will Gen I tie things up going up against a pair of Gen III semifinalists, or will Gen V have an entrant of its own competing for the grand prize?

Propelled by some strong three-stages, Gen III Psychic comes out triumphant over its Dragon counterpart. Just like that, Dragon goes from 1/4 of the field to completely eliminated over the course of three matches. I guess that's what happens when a good portion of Gen VI Dragon was just upgrades of Gen III via mega evolutions. That means Gen III Psychic advances to the semifinals over Gen III Dragon by a score of 22-16.

Gen III won its match-up yesterday, but today there's no option OTHER than Gen III. Yes, Gen III Dragon--which had a lot of representation in the first match of the round with Gen VI Dragon being packed to the scales with Mega Evolutions--faces off against Gen III Psychic, with several of the same Pokemon in the form of the Lati@s duo, plus a few big names with three-stages to their line. These were two titans of Gen I, and it seems they held strong into Gen III, but only one can win and advance to the final four.

We have our first match-up of the final four, as Gen III Grass prevents a rerun of the Fire-type preliminaries by dispatching Gen V Fire in a 27-17 vote. It will face off against Gen I Fire next round, where we'll see whether this was a fluke, or if Gen I Grass is truly that strong.
