What a journey.

Not gonna lie I only really thought of this song because I needed to find a character nomination and FFXVI was the first game to come to mind. It's a pretty epic one though and there are some sweet moments in the game where this plays.

Also seriously, how is Neon Tide my final song?

(First Reaction: To be honest, I wasn't prepared for the scream-y metal vocals with the fairly pretty pop music backing. In a way, it reminds me of Deafheaven and the way they would combine ethereal beauty with almost incomprehensible harsh vocals; while this song goes for more of a pop sound than pure beauty, it's still rather pretty and I do mean for the comparison to be taken in a good way.

Will Ramos is the vocalist for Lorna Shore, he's been doing a lot of cool stuff on his channel. I particularly thought this song was cool for the interesting blend of pop music and harsh vocals.

Also hurray 2 in the top 40. One was the character nomination that I just decided to nominate and the other was a meme song I thought wouldn't last long. Looking forward to seeing which makes it the furthest.

Lefty is like in the middle of the list for me.

Alligator is the top for me too so that can't be right.

The story the lyrics tell of people desperately clinging to a relationship that is already dead is also... 'delightfully painful' is the phrase I'm going to use. "Lost souls, stubborn and desperate to die" is a simply wonderful line. I don't quite see it as a 100 point song, but I will say that I love it and it's way up near the top of the list. Great choice for a last minute addition, thank you.

Really surprised this song made it this high. It was a last minute addition because I wasn't sure you'd like it haha. Thought you'd think it was gonna be too "metal". It's definitely a banger though.

Looking forward to seeing the order of my top three.

Wow, I really thought this song would be an absolute winner. I expected either this or Just Pretend to be my number one song so this is really unexpected. Plus all my remaining songs are not what I would've expected to be in my top 4.

I don't think you've ever nominated a Dir en grey song that went harder than Ningen. Think you've generally played things safer after that one did poorly.

That sounds like an excuse to go back through the archives and find out which song it was! *checks* Alright, I was a bit off; it was Lynch's music that I swore off of as I had a really bad reaction to a random song I listened to (Joker) for some reason. Though, for Dir en grey, I very strongly disliked "Ningen wo Kaburu" and did declare that I wanted absolutely nothing to do with anything related to the song so... similar sentiments.

Now I want to go listen to Ningen and Joker again and see if I'm better equipped to deal with the songs than I was at the first topic.

Ah yea, I remember that drama with Lynch haha.

I don't remember if I've ever recommended some of DEG's really heavy stuff. There's so much worse than Ningen wo Kaburu haha. I've been microdosing you on some heavier stuff every year so maybe your appetite has changed a bit since then.

Knew I was forgetting: The full version of Yurameki is over five minutes long, compared to the under four minutes from the promotional edit version... that being said, I did just listen to the full version on Spotify as suggested and didn't have anything positive or negative to add about it. I know it's a significant addition length wise, but I think winds up with the same score either way.

Yea it's all pretty much the same but just a bit longer. They do a good job cutting it down for the video though.

This could go either way. Ranunculus is still one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard, but there was also one song of theirs that repulsed me so much that I never wanted to hear anything from them again (which is what led to Ranunculus being posted to prove me wrong) so... cautious optimism?

I don't remember what that other song was hm. But Dir en Grey is so good at making both beautiful and disgusting things, it's why I think they're great.

I'm just noticing this is the Promotional Edited version and not the full song. Though since this was only uploaded 4 months ago, perhaps a full version wasn't available at the time?

I think it's just a bit shorter. Older school Japanese bands have this habit where they trim down the song for the music video. Spotify has the full thing.

I just finished all the Gears and Gambit missions on Hard. Funnily enough it's a lot easier if you play the game on Easy difficulty. I just copied a build from a Youtube video and one shot everything.

Yeah, definitely not a good idea for me to marathon all three songs in a row... they're all good and I do like all three of them, but I feel like after I've heard one than I'm pretty good not hearing another drum heavy song for a few days.

I guess you're not listening to the 20 minute studio recording of all three songs together then huh? I totally get it though haha.

[Later: Deciding between this song and "Pain Remains III" is harder than you'd expect. Pain definitely has the higher highs, but also lower lows. I'm thinking this song edges it out just barely? This is definitely one of my favorite genres and it comes very close to greatness. We have a short break which has some faint bursts of static (I love static), the lyrics give me the blunt sadness I crave, and it's very catchy... but there are so few lyrics in the song that it feels a bit repetitive by the end. Will probably check out a few more of the band's songs later.]

This actually really surprised me. I thought that this song would be one of my highest ranking songs, like top three or so. Definitely did not expect it to be anywhere close to Pain Remains considering what I thought you'd like. Bad Omens does have some really good songs though and I encourage you to check them out. One of my favourites is Artificial Suicide, but that's a bit heavier. Concrete Jungle and The Grey might be two that you'd like.

Great lyrics, I really love that chorus. Sadly, I still find the rest of the song to be a bit more metal than I'd like... if i want to reflect on being broken in silence, I'd prefer... well, not silence, but something more suited to quietly being sad.

This is definitely a metal song but they have some interesting elements to it which I thought was cool. It's the same singer from Crystal Lake, if you remember that. He quit the band to do his own thing.

I've long been a pillar for Shadow but support from others has never really been there and I got more personal favs that require my saves now so bringing him back would just be doom so I just leave him be

IIRC BlackDra90n was a strong support but he's not like a daily regular saver

Yea there's a number of characters that I would love to support that aren't in but I've been having trouble saving regularly these last couple of years.

Nice of the song to end on its best lyric. Song does end rather abruptly as it's meant to transition to the next song, so I do see what you meant... I'm starting to wonder if I should force you to nominate them together as one long song instead of three smaller ones, but I suppose we'll see how I feel after hearing the next two.)

They released the songs one at a time and when I first listened to this one I thought the cut was just part of the song and I thought it was quite nice. There's a bit of symbolism there in that the song talks about death and then the end just comes so suddenly. Knowing that there's two songs afterwards does change up the interpretation a bit though, but it's cool that they roll into each other.

It's because there's some uh, triggerable content (suicide) in the music video. If you're interested in the story the video is worth watching, but it's fine.

Lyrics are fantastic, though as usual for the band, I can't make out many of them.

I admit, I laughed. Takes some getting used to but you'll hear it eventually.

I was wondering if you'd rank all three together, interested to see where III ends up.

There's enough combat challenges that you should be able to hit 70 without needing to grind.
