Ema was generally well-liked. The informal poll is a split between liking Younger Ema more and Older Ema more, with some of that discussion going through in the topic. Younger Ema is a little bit more well-liked, but very few outright disliked either version.

Lana's good. I think she doesn't really come into fruition until the final day, but she has a really interesting character. I think the "cold defendant who smiles at the end" archetype is better done with later cases down the line, but it's good here!

Starr's mostly good. She goes on a little too long in Trial 1, but 1-5 is kind of a weird case when it comes to pacing, anyways. Aside from that, I generally like her.

Marshall's pretty likable. He's got a good gimmick with good animations and he mostly makes Trial 2 worth it. Good song, too. I'm shocked he doesn't come back for the Wild West portion of E1-3.

Goodman's a good man and a victim. Not really much to him, especially since Starr and Marshall do most of the picking up in regards to the Darke investigation unit.

I only have a few 10s for the entire series, but I think Gant deserves one of them. I've always been a fan of "friendly" villains and Gant does that really well. He has a really great design with some of the most memorable animations in the series. By the end, he's really despicable and it feels great to finally bring him down and have the Skyes escape from his clutches. He's certainly a top 3 "one-off" character in the entire series for me and arguably the best culprit.

Meekins tops the list of "why did this character come back for later games". 4-4, I can understand, because you need someone who is in law enforcement and Meekins fits that. But E1-3? Really? Anyways, he's...well, I liked the video tape a lot. And that's about it. I generally like the incompetent law enforcement gimmick that Ace Attorney likes to use, but Meekins turns it up waaay too much.

Yanni and Polly do well, with Yanni being the better character by a bit. Lotta gets mostly middling results and gets right in the middle. Hammond is our first sub-10 vote and barely makes it above the lowest tier. There was a vote for 1-3 last topic and I also missed someone's vote when scoring 1-3, so everyone from 1-3 gets a noticeable jump in the ratings.

My rating: 8.5/10

Younger Ema is good. She's the first Maya clone, but she is likable enough. Her gimmick goes well with Phoenix and her Edgeworth fanboyism is pretty good too. Defending her on the final trial day is strong. I have no idea what to make of Investigations Ema and I don't think the writers did, either.

Older Ema was a bit difficult to take in at first. It felt like a continuation of a joke being played on the AA fans by having the only notable AA return be perpetually gloomy about her life. It's funny and Ema's one of the better AJ characters, but it's also sad. SOJ Ema feels like the right match of optimistic, but still prone to the small, annoying things in life.

Fun fact: If you were born in 1989, you would have been the same age as Ema when playing PW1 and when playing SOJ.

Lotta's fine. She's definitely not bottom tier, but she's a very OK character that shows up a lot, mainly just for photographic evidence. I think we're out of the era where Kansai accent is automatically localized to The South. It just doesn't convey the same attitudes.

Hammond's a low-tier victim. He doesn't even have a name pun!

Yogi and Polly are great. I liked Yogi's persona as a caretaker for some time and his reveal when he confesses is great. Polly is, of course, one of the most memorable witnesses in the series.

Most only had positive things to say about Powers and Vasquez. Nichols and Hackins were more middling, with Hackins being rated higher pretty much all the time. Oldbag, Hammer, and Manella all had differing opinions for different reasons. Oldbag can be obnoxious and overused, Hammer is still a victim at the end of the day, and Manella is gross and cringe and sometimes it's funny, sometimes it's terrible.

My rating: 9/10.

Started the tradition of the special prosecutor for the finale case and no one since has lived up to von Karma's presence in 1-4. He completely commands the courtroom in Trial 1 where it feels like Phoenix truly scrapes by to get another day. He's pretty humorous in his own right, most notably during the Polly cross-examination. And, of course, the whole concept of this useless Metal Detector taking down von Karma is legendary, followed by his breakdown. There's an argument to be made that he's the best villain of the OT.

It's unfortunate that he shows up a few times in the Investigations game. He definitely works best the less you see him.

Major characters get their own day and minor characters are all ranked at once. All extremely minor characters (background, animals, mascots, and jury) will be rated on the final day.

Most 1-2 characters ended up near each other, with White having a splendiferous jump in quality compared to the others. White's strong personality and vocabulary is enough to charm voters. Grossberg had some discourse. Some liked him, some disliked him. Most did not like his 3-1 appearance.

Lots of characters to rank! Only L-2 and G2-3 surpasses it. Powers is your first standard defendant and does a great job. A really likable guy who is ultimately honest, but lots of suspicion on him due to Hammer's actions. 2-4 Powers is one of the best returning characters in the series, as his positive qualities is put against Phoenix when he's forced to make Powers look unreliable to keep Engarde safe. It's cruelly ironic and funny and a perfect character for that position.

I guess they cooled down on Oldbag after AAI, thankfully. 1-3 Oldbag is really good. She has her faults, but she's empathetic and provides a lot of fun moments in 1-3. Each future appearance brings her down more and more; though, I don't mind her 2-4 appearance as much.

Hammer justifies rating victims! He's arguably the most developed character in this case and you understand his character a ton despite never once talking to him. He might be the best pure victim in the series.

Nichols certainly exists. Her trading card moment is easily the highlight. She's not bad, at least. What a random cameo in E2-5, alongside Powers. They had to make new sprites for them! I wonder if they had a bigger role in E2-5 that got cut due to how bloated that case is.

Manella screams 2005, but you know what, I found him pretty funny back when I played it. Maya's reaction sells it.

Hackins is a little annoying, but a wonderful witness. It's a really memorable moment and it all comes across as natural. I'm really shocked he hasn't come back in a future game. There's a lot of ways you could take an adult Hackins!

Vasquez is really good. I generally don't liked subdued characters too much, but she plays it so well.
