I remember being stunned that "wow, we got the nameless bellboy to help us out." Fun character too! I love his random cameos throughout the series. White's also stereotypical, but a stereotype I tend to enjoy more. His large vocabulary makes me laugh more than it should. | Bitto 05/29/24 11:39:44 AM #35 | The intelligence thing is a factor, but I think there's bigger factors for Investigations. The big one is that the Ace Attorney structure largely relies on the David vs. Goliath feeling. While the unevenness is one part of it, another part of it is the humor that comes with it. As Edgeworth says once, "does the defense bench come with a "kick me" sign on it?" Edgeworth is great when he breaks character once in a while, but if it happens a lot, it just doesn't work as well.
As mentioned, Kay is just not a good assistant for Edgeworth, outside of growing him as a character. Gumshoe could have been, but not the way Gumshoe was written so far. I agree that Ema would have been a solid assistant for Edgeworth...honestly, I'm really surprised they didn't do that. It could have even tied in Ema's new attitude in the AJ games! --- I can't live forever With my head and my heart in the clouds |

| Bitto 05/29/24 10:23:08 AM #17 | I never really played FF7 original, but even if I did, I think it wouldn't have had the exact same impact because I just wasn't as invested in the characters. Voice acting does so much to make a character feel alive and the FFVII characters really benefited from that in the Remake trilogy.

Profile (Conclusion): [6-6] The district's chief prosecutor and Phoenix's childhood friend. Used to go head-to-head with Phoenix back in his courtroom days. My rating: 10/10. Years ago, Edgeworth would absolutely be my favorite character in all entertainment. He probably still is, but not nearly to the extent back then. I already like Edgeworth's archetype and it's played to perfection in the OT. What's really wild to me is that, with the exception of 1-5, every single case in the OT marks significant development for Edgeworth in some way or form. Outside of that, he's just a really fun character to be with. Despite his personality, he somehow has some of the funniest lines in the series. Investigations was a little rough, mainly because writing with Edgeworth as the protagonist is so different compared to writing with Phoenix as the protagonist due to their personalities. Investigations 2 does a much better job. Post-AJ Edgeworth is good too; though, I miss his old Objection voice. I usually really like Kyle Hebert too, but man, his portrayal of Edgeworth is such at odds with my vision of him. --- I can't live forever With my head and my heart in the clouds |

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Outer Wilds HM: Mega Man 2, Metal Gear Solid, Persona 4, Slay the Spire I replaced Mega Man 2 with SSBM because SSBM was just way more important to me as a kid. It's probably the game I put in the most hours in. On a smaller note, it made me love fighters, love easter eggs and references in crossovers, and just got me really into Nintendo for the rest of my life. I replaced MGS with PM2 because PM2 literally led to me finding lifelong friends, including my partner. Phoenix Wright's a lock. Favorite game series and favorite story/characters not just for video games but for all entertainment. Greatly influenced a lot of aspects about me. I wanted an indie game that really captures how videogames are a truly unique form of entertainment in delivering stories and felt Outer Wilds is the best at capturing that. It's also a sort of game that I feel is best served through smaller devs. --- I can't live forever With my head and my heart in the clouds |

I always really enjoy when he sticks his neck out for Phoenix's sake, something that no other detective has really done since. Even though I'm not necessarily a fan of the spunky teenage girl assistant in Ace Attorney, I always really liked Maya. Her chemistry with Phoenix is really great and I don't think a defense/assistant pairing ever quite matched their energy. While I do like investigating, I feel like some of the more memorable moments are the ones where Maya takes an active role in them. I also like her storyline and arc a lot. It's unfortunate that Maya is excluded in so many cases, but at the same time, I feel like she makes sense for her to be away in all of those cases. --- I can't live forever With my head and my heart in the clouds |

Sahwit: 5/10. Payne's probably a 4/10 but his 3-1 appearance is so good that it boosts him a lot. They make good use of him such as him beating Tigre in 3-1 and his cameos in the Investigation games. Stone's a victim. She's not the worst victim. I like that she's not entirely innocent, but not entirely awful. Sahwit's nothing important, but similar to my thoughts on 1-1, he does a really good job of giving you a taste of what AA could be. Super Mario Bros. Remove Doom Add Fortnite I think there's enough differentiation between Minecraft and Fortnite for both to be on. Even though I feel like they're very recent, they share very different spaces. I did consider LoL as a HM, but I'm just so far removed from any of that. All the other games on here, I have some base knowledge; even if I only played SMB and Fortnite. After a few games with other judges, it's always nice to see the Judge. He's got an easygoing air about him that makes him just as fun as any other Ace Attorney character. He adds a lot of humor, but is serious enough to not be a joke. I'm not sure what he got that other judges don't. Other than his brother, the other judges don't quite hit it like he does. But that looked like late-game stuff to me. Oh yeah, it's definitely a tough series of fights. If you're interested in the rewards, I definitely think doing Hard Mode stuff is pretty frustrating, so I definitely wouldn't recommend for everyone. I'm happy with just doing all quests (including protorelic) and doing all global intel. I also like the idea that he's this unpredictable witness for both the defense and prosecution, again best used in 1-4 and 3-5. But he's stuck in amber and never really grows. I feel like they could have taken Larry down two reasonable paths: he keeps getting in trouble but is generally a reliable friend or he finally "makes it" as an artist and matures. They...kinda do both, in that he does have success as an artist, but he's still really immature.
