The 'Korra is a villain' notion is slightly accurate in that Korra is basically Zuko who had the good fortune of being born on the good guy's side. She is a flawed protagonist, and if you give her a chance, eventually she'll move you. Zuko, Sokka, Iroh, etc are some of my favorite characters in popular fiction, but Korra manages to beat them all for the crown of favorite character across both series. Korra's arc actually helped me recognize and come to terms with depression in my own life; I can count on one hand the number of times a fictional character has gotten through to me to such a degree.

The internet sure is a funny place this week. On one hand you've got people gushing over the Netflix Avatar adaptation for 'trimming the fat' from the original, and on the other you've got people gushing over FF7 getting the 'Hobbit' treatment to the Nth degree.

Yes, yes, I know someone is aching to Ctrl+V the 'It's almost like different people have different opinions' line after reading that, but let's not pretend that particular Venn diagram is two perfectly separate circles.

I mean, yeah, it was clear even before Fallout 4 released that New Vegas was going to be the last of the 'original' Fallout universe. Bethesda is bent on maintaining the more generic post-apocalypse vibe of the universe, where it feels the bombs fell no more than a year ago no matter how many centuries pass; it's more marketable and easier to keep producing survival sandbox games in loosely-connected settings, and the old style of games where civilization actually grows and develops beyond the apocalypse is wholly incompatible with that.

But, to reiterate, Bethesda-brand Fallout has a decent chance of working perfectly well in a tv series format. Fallout-style dark humor paired with the commitment to capturing 4's aesthetic in particular (which I maintain is leagues better than 3's at the very least, especially in this context) could draw in a lot of people who wouldn't be otherwise interested in yet another post-apocalypse story.

Nah. Based on the show being confirmed canon and this latest trailer, it's finally time to call a spade a spade: Bethesda is taking big steps to retcon the old games / West Coast storyline out of canon, either subtly or overtly. I'm surprised they held out this long, tbh.

I think someone found out those two pics were from the exact same episode of the old series, not the new series... and they posted the two pics to troll, but then idiots took it seriously and the fake outrage took off from there.

Doesn't seem likely, given that Rogue's hair is much less finely detailed in the 2nd pic, which would fall in line with modern animation standards (plus she's wearing a jacket). Could be wrong, though.

I'm very intrigued, and I hope this delivers. Unlike, say, the Avatar adaptation, I'm going into this with zero expectations, other than my longstanding belief that Bethesda-brand Fallout's story only ever really shines in side quests (aka disjointed episodic bursts), and thus would probably make a good template for a picaresque TV series.

Walton Goggins is probably gonna carry the show. Love that they're clearly giving him a 'chem fiend' angle in this new trailer. Visuals don't usually impress me nowadays, but this is so 1:1 that's its impossible not be impressed by it.

If she'd said 3 is the best, I'd get up and leave. 4 I can at least work with.

I love Oum's skits and his work on RvB, but Rwby was just bad. I gave it two whole seasons and it just kept on staying bad.

The second half of S3 is surprisingly good. As in, "holy shit where did that come from, why is this show good now?!" But yeah, they squandered that in S4 and I didn't bother with the show any further after that.

RWBY died with Pyrrha.

But yeah, after how S4 turned out (especially in comparison to S3), I could've told you then and there that the series would faff about for years longer than it should have and never come to a satisfying conclusion (if any).

I'm of the opinion that Season 3 (iirc the first season after he passed) was the only really good one. But then again I never got into machinima culture and only watched the show on recommendation from a friend.

That's good. I didn't care for the adaptation and lost interest halfway through, but I didn't want to see it fail either. S2 will be the real test of whether or not they can iron out of the flaws of S1 and really deliver.

Yeah, that was the biggest mark against the first World. It takes things far enough that it leaves you with the impression that the director or someone else high up on production had a serious grudge against that actress.

The 3rd movie in the 'World' trilogy is considerably worse, and apparently the middle one is considerably worse than even that (couldn't say, I skipped that one).

When I started typing this topic the title was Whiplash has a bad message, on the premise that the movie ultimately vindicates and practically celebrates Andrews abuse and his abuser. I still kind of feel that way but Im also confronted by the feeling that Fletcher is constructed so nefariously yet also in a way that really reflects real life. People like Fletcher are everywhere, people you cannot convince they are wrong about something because they have shaped their understanding of the world in a way that comforts and validates themselves no matter what outcome of their actions. As long as you want to defeat such a person and define defeating as changing their mind, you will never win.

Pretty astute observation. That's why it's always healthier to focus on seeing yourself win than seeing someone else lose.

I saw the ending and a little bit of the middle of this movie while someone else had it playing in the background. What little I saw was excellent - resonated a bit with my own small experience in high school / college band. There's definitely people like JK Simmons' character out there in every level of that scene.

Well it sure is nice for Oklahoma to allow me the privilege of saying "you couldn't pay me to live there" and actually back it up.

You're trying to attribute comedy where there is none. We have it straight from the creator what Saitama's deal is and it's not "a joke" and the series is not a joke either. There's no need to make up things about the series when we are told explicitly what it is.

Guess that helps explain why I completely lost interest in the anime about midway through S2.

Greg Gutfeld. In the early 2000's Stuff magazine with Greg as Editor-in-Chief was a cornerstone of my comedic tastes right alongside Mel Brooks and Monty Python - it was obvious even then that the mag had a right-wing slant, but at the time I was very much a prototypical enlightened centrist so it didn't bother me.

Even factoring out the political angle of his stuff nowadays (assuming that's even possible), what I've seen is the epitome of predictable low-hanging fruit.
