Not being able to vote is different than refusing to. I was currently living in a deep red state and had lost my (out of state) ID on top of having a hell of a time replacing it because my mailbox at my apartment was fucked and I had to go full karen and threaten legal action before the slumlords would do anything, which was still after the election.

I'm not sure I'd call 2 years after launch "early". In the grand scheme of things due to its long lifespan, sure. But generally "early" in this context means "most of the development happened before the console was on the market".

I get what you're saying, but I still feel like anything 2002 and earlier qualifies as early in that gen. Mid-gen being like 2003-4 and late being 2006 onwards.

Not that the PS2 was a slow burn, but was like a year before "everyone" had one. So to a lot of people it was an earlier title.

The game itself is also not helping this, the design sense feels like it has more in common with a PSone game at times. The camera was still mapped to the triggers for ... reasons.

I actually wasn't a fan of the retooled gummi levels. KH1s felt out of place but I felt that was part of the charm.

I really didn't like 2 at all to be fair. It might be objectively better made, but the experience just isn't as interesting.

They do intentionally make the hit box to close those windows annoyingly small.

I don't really have a reason to, I'm a physical media junkie but I have pretty much everything on DVD now at least.

I played KH1 back when the remaster came out and couldn't get into it. Even in 2013 it was showing its age.

You'd probably hate the PS2 release. The remaster actually had some small tweaks and QOL changes.

TopGear 3000 is actually one of my favorite racing games.

Yes, I saw it on cable as a kid and it stuck with me. Very cool atmosphere, genuinely scary antagonist, some pretty fucked up moments.

I feel like the issue that plagues Busby is the game design always had skewed priorities. It was a 2D platformer with fall damage (wat?) and a Sonic-like that seemed designed to punish the player for being fast.

They're just not fun to play. While Gex or Boogerman weren't amazing either, at least they were fun.

I understand 3D was the way it was because 3D platformers weren't codified yet, but it has weird decisions like the choice of using the high-resolution framebuffer mode that ... wasn't actually intended for gameplay. Resulting in nearly everything else being sacrificed.

Modern games getting remade just makes me feel old.

I get that the original is considered "okay" at best and had a lot of hype backlash though.

The alternative I'm considering is pure game design, going from hardcore CS.

It's starting to dawn on me that I can't hack it as far as the boiler plate "math for math's sake" ... well, math classes. The frustrating thing is that the content itself is fun and useful, I just can't take a test to save my life.

I look at things laterally, and what I'm doing isn't actually valuable or useful anymore. Chat GPT can correctly guess like 80% of any coding problem you throw at it, our job basically becomes making sure it's correct.

When I'm done with school in 2-3 years, I rightly won't be hireable ... so what's the point?

So ... game design. But I hate working with Unreal and would vastly perfer to be a programmer on most teams I've worked with. I can't stand working with Unreal, it's a hideous piece of malware. But it's expected for designers.
