| RasterGraphic 10/09/25 1:21:49 PM #4 | It's going to be such a shitshow when he actually dies. I want to just be a smartass and go "popcorn.gif" at all the chaos ... but reality is when it does happen it's probably actually going be quite scary. The right wanted people destroyed over saying mean things about someone like Kirk, it will be that x 1000, and it will be absolutely unhinged. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. | RasterGraphic 10/08/25 9:22:14 PM #8 | Go watch the film Jacob's Ladder. The games borrow a lot from it, especially the visuals and some of the levels in the latter games have even more explicit references. Silent Hill is basically that meets Stephen King. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |

I don't want to watch it again, but I've never seen anything like it either, and that alone is strong merit. Gummo is like a disturbing experimental music album in movie form. | Topic | AI music CE: It's not really enjoyable to make music now |
| RasterGraphic 10/08/25 8:41:51 AM #5 | That's really depressing. I wish all these "vibe" producers would just fuck off and go away. Coders, filmmakers, artists. Literally contributing nothing but white noise at best, at worst (in the case of code) can be outright dangerous to society. And let me make it clear, it's one thing to use AI as a toy. | Topic | Australia: "this is a kid's brain on C++" (real) |
| RasterGraphic 10/08/25 8:12:01 AM #13 | There are definitely ulterior motives at play. I can only speculate what they would be though. Could be anything from trying to limit the reach of FOSS, to trying to keep kids away from the influence of the prospectives and philosophies regarding FOSS. Not all of the FOSS community is left leaning, but a lot of it is. The GPL is straight up a form of communism, and I'm not using that as pejorative, "you don't own your work but simultaneously everyone does all at once" is kind of the intent. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. | Topic | So Apparently, People Think Hasan's Dog Is Wearing Some Kind of Shock Collar? |
| RasterGraphic 10/08/25 7:42:46 AM #14 | I guess I lied. pegusus123456 posted... I won't speak for Humble's motivation, but I e seen the video. It's not misrepresentation, it's genuinely fucked up. Cruelty Squad or the dog? I'll just take people's word for it in regards to the dog. I have no reason to defend it, especially if its actual abuse nor do I have a reason to defend piker. I am a bit of a fanboy of that game however. The creator openly hates and often trolls his fans. He posted a tasteless fan mod out of mockery and laughed at the outrage. ... this somehow became "the creator of cruelty squad made a Charlie Kirk level". Even if that wasn't what humble intended to say and was poor reading comprehension on my part, Cruelty Squad has a particularly left leaning anti-capitalist fanbase that can get cringe at points. Making a topic to paint a negative picture about it all over fucking Charlie Kirk is ... yeah pegusus123456 posted... I just don't buy this rationale when it's someone as big as Hasan. People said same thing when I called out the endless topics giving Anita Sarkeesian attention. "She's already famous so that cricitsm doesn't matter". There's a few things at want to say about this at this point, but honestly I don't feel like getting into a drawn out internet argument tonight. | Topic | So Apparently, People Think Hasan's Dog Is Wearing Some Kind of Shock Collar? |
| RasterGraphic 10/08/25 6:08:27 AM #3 | There's already a topic about this. As I said there, my parents were dog trainers. Shock collars arn't the most common tool anymore, but I've been around them and seen them used how theyre intended to be. They can be abusive if misused, but so can choke chains and pinch collars. The point isn't to cause actual pain for the animal. Discomfort, yes, but not pain. >_> --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |
| Topic | What's a lost media holy grail for you? |
| RasterGraphic 10/08/25 5:53:24 AM #152 | Apparently the TechTV EyeDrops situation has improved recently, so that makes me happy. I wish who ever owns the actual rights to those old shows (I think CBS, as Code Monkeys used to stream on Peacock) would just release a big Blu-Ray set to put on as background noise. I know that's not really possible, as I'm sure the rights are super complicated but it would just be cool. TechTV was lightening in a bottle and something that would never exist on that scale again. A lot of YouTube does similar content for a modern audience, but it's never the same. At least X-Play is like 90% intact online if you look for it, but X-Play was only a small part of the network. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. Fry |

| Topic | Do you like this movie: A Nightmare on Elm Street |
| RasterGraphic 10/07/25 7:37:34 PM #32 | Yeah, Elm Street is Slasher not Torture Porn. They are different horror sub-genres. If you don't like watching violence, that's one thing, but not all movie violence is Torture Porn. People still get killed on screen, yes, but both the approach and overall appeal are pretty different. Slashers are generally a little less about getting immersed in on-screen suffering and more about the general pursuit of the antagonist and protagonist and kills are usually brief and silly. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J. | Topic | The final boss should be... |
| RasterGraphic 10/07/25 7:29:28 AM #15 | Generally leaning towards the first option, although I'm a big fan of games ending on a total power fantasy level. Games, in all reality, are giant, often obfuscated tutorials. Even after the official tutorial ends, games tend to be designed to continually train and test the player. The final level or the penultimate level should be a final test of skill. Everything the game has taught you put on the table. If this happens on the penultimate, the actual ending should just be pure emotional catharsis. This could be anything from saying goodbye to everyone in an RPG to the game giving you an insanely powerful gun and letting you go nuts. --- "Well, thanks to the Internet, I'm now bored with sex." - Philip J.
