Very disappointed that I didn't get what was advertised as Big Boss' descent to madness and what turned him into the villain that we see in Metal Gear 1 and 2. Instead we got fragments of a storyline that was just there and a cheap twist in the ending just to cover up a game that was clearly unfinished after Kojima's falling out with Konami. Big Boss or more like Venom Snake barely had any personality and felt like it was a huge waste and a missed opportunity for Kiefer Sutherland. Ocelot also felt like he was a completely different character from what we see in MGS3 and his older self from MGS1.

There are certainly interesting elements to the story and the template was there for what could have been a great MGS story alongside its fantastic gameplay. The game was just unfinished and we ended up getting a shadow of something that could have been truly special.

This is gonna be the biggest what if in video games for me for a long long time.

Ocarina was being anti-voted to oblivion in its matches. Even Suikoden II scored a decent number on OoT that contest.

I'd need more data to accept FFIX has overtaken FFVIII other than BGE 2015's data where Undertale was literally on every single day of FFVIII's matches.

There was a insane gap between 8 and 9 in 2009 and 8 literally beat the shit out of 9 in their match. Also 9 has been getting a lot more backlash and many of the fans have been vocal about 9's problems more than they have ever been.

I'd need to see it to believe that 9 has overtaken 8. This is similar to the case of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess where WW is FFIX and TP is FFVIII. However WW has grown to be more beloved whereas FFIX has grown more polarizing to the fans as years have passed.

FFIX is weaker than FFVIII though. FFVIII only looks bad in the last contest because of rally spillover from the Undertale match where it was very clear Super Mario World benefitted a lot from it.

The world building in this first half of the duology is really good and they established some memorable characters. I remember being all kinds of hyped for the conclusion to the story in the second game. The mystery behind the lost civilization of Lemuria is one of the most intriguing plot elements an RPG of its time had. However all of these epic things are saved for the second game.

BotW > FF7R > RE2R > Dread > SSBU

All amazing games from their respective genres.

I did not get blown away by Rift Apart like I expected to after all those glowing reviews. It is a solid game but it doesn't really do anything spectacular other than graphics and sound effects. Another thing that I don't like about the direction of the series is how apologetic and vanilla they have slowly made Ratchet. He has become almost unrecognizable from the asshole to Clank in the first game to the edgy, sarcastic hero in GC and UYA.

So if RE8 is about equal to RE7, then it puts Metroid Dread somewhere along Mass Effect 2's level or a bit higher. Not bad, I did not expect the game to already be this strong.

Persona 3 FES since that is the one amazing game from the system that has still yet to be remastered.

Also Shadow Hearts 1 and 2

The 4 Konami IPs

Metal Gear, Castlevania, Silent Hill and Suikoden

God of War: Ragnarok > BotW2 > Bayonetta 3 > 3D Kirby game > this does not need a remake > don't care about the rest

Hey Psychonauts 2 beat Halo and Resident Evil Village ended up being second. Still disappointed that Shin Megami Tensei V got snubbed.

If Tales of Arise can outright beat RE8, then I can't help but feel SMTV would have done some real damage here in this poll.

I always imagined those two games would be of similar strength but given how wrong I was about RE8 maybe I'm way off here as well.

Wow. I was way off with my overestimation of RE8's strength lol.

But the more important question is where the fuck is Shin Megami Tensei V? Why are Bravely Default II and Guilty Gear options in the poll over it?

Royal and Strikers have retroactively made the story and characters better than it was for me.

Noctis and co. at least feel like a bunch of bros on a journey and although it is definitely undercooked with what we got from base FFXV, it is a lot lot better than I wanna be a sky pirate and Mrs. nethicite this and nethicite that.

FFXV's story could have been something great if the structure of the story wasn't so fragmented and if the time skip didn't make it feel like a huge chunk of the story was just sucked into a black hole. However we did get a very powerful ending at the least which in itself is leagues above anything that FFXII did in its entirety of its 'story'.

I find it absolutely baffling that this is probably gonna end up above FFXIII and XV. Yeah both those games have their share of problems with their story, but in no way, shape or form are those two anywhere close to the same spectrum of FFXII's disaster of a story.

Worst story of a mainline Final Fantasy with the worst main character in a video game ever. Also absolutely terrible cast chemistry in what is already by far the weakest overall cast in a FF game topped with a shallow bland main villain. Then there is the boring pretentious ye olde age dialogue that does not suit Final Fantasy in the slightest.

I'm not saying this is a bad game gameplay wise though. It was a disappointing FF title coming off the golden age of the series.

Tales of Arise and Shin Megami Tensei V were very enjoyable experiences too but both had glaring flaws for different reasons.

About as much as I would have expected from a really good Spider-Man story. Can't wait for the sequel in 2023.
