Long time coming. Needed that power bat.

Yes this was a move everyone knew was coming as soon as the Yankees got Stanton. They've also been basically the only team ever linked to him

I don't get your point then. I wasn't trying to imply that reading Wikipedia is better for that kind of book. Admittedly it's a pretty huge exception, so saying there's no point with some exceptions probably didn't illustrate it very well. I just brought it up because older people I know (like my parents) are always buying books on info that can be easily looked up online and I don't get it but I'm from a different era so who am I to judge

Are your parents buying textbooks?

When people talk about non fiction they're not talking about reference texts. For example I said I only read fiction but I actually somewhat recently read a great baseball book called The Only Rule is it Has to Work. You can go read the Wikipedia page for the independent league baseball team that Ben Lindbergh and Sam Miller play GM for or you can read their own words on the ups and downs of that crazy season. One takes a lot longer but it's a lot more fun

Yeah, but the politics are plot-necessary and are there to build the world and conflict, rather than blindly mirroring current-day world politics.

So what's the argument here? That the movie has themes?

Why?

My friends who grew up and still live there. The high as fuck violent crime rates per capita.

Their crime rate is always high, but part of it is because the actual city of St Louis isnt part of any county, so it appears to have way more crime than any other metro area in the US because it only considers the densest areas and none of the surrounding suburb cities like most other cities that the FBI tracks crime data for. Then again the city seems to be disturbingly segregated which cant be healthy.

That is what Ive read anyways. Im sure as heck dont plan on ever crossing the river to East St Louis. Were gonna be living in a nice gentrified downtown area, worst case scenario we hate it there and move again in a few years

What part of St. Louis are you moving to? I live there (here?) and I can tell you how safe you're going to be (the answer is probably "pretty safe")

They'd likely put up over 100 runs on us over the course of a 9 inning game. They're not flawless superheroes though and will at times make weak contact even on a terrible pitch. We could get ground outs and pop outs sometimes.

That said, the umps would probably be within their rights to call the game via some kind of Mercy rule

There's a real chance we'd get shut out playing volleyball I think because we don't have the skills or instincts to anticipate them on the attack. Rhythm and team chemistry would be just as crucial here as they would be in basketball. Our okayish physical strength for that level of competition would help though if we can work together well.

Well if we count softball we're going easy on ourselves. We could definitely do work in a softball league because the competition level is extremely low, even in that elite league full of fatasses that was on TV that one time. If we're talking big four + soccer, then we'd probably be best at soccer. It's the simplest to get non pathetic at but we would be gassed long before the end of the match. Hockey is a non starter since most of us can't skate well enough, basketball we've been over. Baseball and football are maybes but if you don't have experience playing baseball things like defense become a major problem and just catching up to a pitch would be really hard. Plus we'd need a pitcher have any of you pitched before? Football would be tough because there are hardly any of us

No we probably wouldn't get 3 in general. The court is too big, we probably wouldn't be able to move the ball enough. In our two months of practice we'd have to really nail passing and dribbling if we wanted to even get a shot off. I guess it depends on how much time we get to devote to it. If this becomes our full time job for two months and we get a really great coaching staff (a conditioning coach would really help too, we don't have a deep roster so we'd all be getting a lot of minutes) we probably wouldn't be the worst most embarrassing thing ever. We'd be extremely bad, worse than the worst D3 team by miles, but the worst D3 team could get on the board against Michigan State.

Who would we be playing against? A bunch of us are in the 6'1" range. That's basketball short but we might be able to fire off some shots if we get like two months to practice and find a rhythm together. Probably not though, we'd probably get gashed by even a mediocre defense. All steals and layups off of us all day

So this week a friend from out of town was visiting. He is now a stand up comic. I asked if he wanted to hang out with me and our mutual friend and we picked tonight. He says let's go to this improv comedy club and watch a show, we say sounds good.

So the other guy and I get there on time and he's half an hour late so we're already eating when he arrives. It's whatever and we talk for half an hour before the show. It's not an improv show though, it's a show for stand up comics to tell emotional stories. The theme this month is New Beginnings. Everyone in the room besides me and other guy seems to be a stand up comic. They're so supportive of each other and they're all each other's best friend. My stand up friend says the show will last an hour.

First guy up is the emcee. He tells a nice story about how he came to visit St. Louis as a boy and then move here as a man. Not haha funny but sweet and amusing. Next one up is a tiny lady who tells a not at all funny story about how she almost got married. I thought it was lovely and poignant and thoughtful. I'm like ok this is fine, there'll be five or six of these stories then we'll just go back to the bar.

I lost count but I'm thinking there were at least 12 stories. It took two and a half hours. After the first two stories also they got progressively worse (though the last guy seemed ok but I could barely keep my eyes open) and the whole time all the stand up friends are laughing their heads off. It's insane and I'm feeling bad about not laughing at all but I don't even know how to fake laugh at it because it's so unfunny and it seems like they're not even trying to be funny outside of this one guy who kept making LotR analogies that didn't make sense. Also at least half of the "New Beginnings" were about how they started doing standup.

The worst part was when this dude who I would have guessed had never even spoken in front of a classroom starts telling the legend of how he came back from standup retirement. He starts off "when I first did standup it was right out of high school, so 2011." And I get so mad because he's talking about how he unretired from his hobby and he's fucking 25 years old. But it gets worse: the legend of how he knew he was good at it was that after David Bowie died he did a David Bowie impression at an open mic. Ok. He proceeds to tell us about how good an impression it was. He said everyone cheered and the wait staff said it was really something special (note: this may actually be true because non standup friend and I both agree that he seemed to be on the spectrum). It was the best Bowie impression of all time. He didn't do it though. We're just taking it on faith. Then he goes "I've made a lot of friends in standup. Well... I like them but I don't know if they like me..." And then paused until a lady from earlier said "we love you!" from the crowd. And after the show he was talking to her at the bar and as I'm trying to close my tab she starts talking to me about the show as the dude is talking to her. Like oh you're here with Tom right blah blah blah. And the guy is like just staring daggers at me as I barely talk to this married mother of two. Also her story was about how she's always been awkwardly tall. She's probably 5'9"

A friend from high school said that he is gonna buy an AR because he's black and doesn't want to be defenseless against white supremacists. I didn't comment but how does that even make sense. You're gonna have a rifle strapped to your back whenever you're in public? You're gonna pull your big ass gun out when the shooting starts and expect people to know you're not the threat???

Maybe you have to get further into the game than I did on either attempt to enjoy the gameplay but i was like falling asleep playing it last time. I feel like I'm not doing anything and this is probably blasphemous but I'd prefer if I could at least hit the X button to do my attacks. That's why I just fast forward through the fights and the exploration which left me with nothing.

I have a bit of a soft spot for 15 despite it not really being that good because it's so interesting. So many weird decisions had to be made in a row for that game to come out the way it did. Now there's a game that falls apart in the second (third?) act

You'd be a fool to wait for the remake unfortunately. If it ever comes out it's likely to only be the first 25% of the story with 3 more games to come. The combat is going to be different as well which isn't necessarily a bad thing because the ATB system from that era FF can be annoying. But it's too much of a full remake to count as your first time through and in your rankings I think.
