Re: Solo Leveling. I think it's going to be mega popular. The first few episodes will be like Gantz, which will get people hooked, and then it will turn into Bleach, where it's super stylish with hype fight scenes and epic moments with very little substance underneath. The supporting cast is lacking compared to Bleach, but I think it'll still hit the right notes.

Yup, this is true. Bakarina / All Routes Lead to Doom is still a really fun story though.

Honestly, the male version of the fantasy isekai template barely exists too. They're largely just based on Dragon Quest III with little variation.

What exactly do you mean by this? The "Hero" is super common, there's been a thousand Himmels in both games and anime/manga

I've always found the villainess trope to be boring and poorly used when I've seen it, even though the basics of a character like that sounds like it could be good

You are misunderstanding the basis of the show. The free will of the girls isn't being affected at all, the f*** up from the love god is that they're all legitimately his soulmates and if he doesn't date all of them the ones left out will die. So, yeah, it's a hilariously awful situation, but the girls aren't falling in love with this guy because of mind control or something. If anything the one who's actually in the awful situation is him!

I completely agree with Robazoid's take on the situation, and it's bizarre to me that anybody could accept the mental gymnastics on display in this post to justify making these girls all soulmate for life this dude

It's pretty awesome. I've been playing through all the FF's (on IX) and V is the best gameplay depth wise without a doubt. I absolutely loved working out the best character growths to break that game.

The worst game story/character wise except the first two though (which didn't really make a strong attempt at it so I don't blame them)

Hmm, I suppose so. I have a hard time anticipating how much content translates for monthly series. It just feels like it's been SOOOOO long since the manga covered the events that S1 ends on that a mere 13 episode season couldn't possibly cover all that ground, but I suppose it isn't actually that many chapters....

Do we know how many episodes Faraway Paladin S2 is supposed to be? The banner picture implies this season is going to include the current arc the manga is on (which is GREAT), but I never thought it would get that far.

I never actually watched the S1 even though I love manga. Seeing the current arc get animated might make me hype enough to watch it though.

One bit of a feedback that makes your questions not really line up with the experience - a lot of times, ads are triggered to pop up when you go to a certain screen, usually whatever is considered your "home base" where you manage your roster or whatever., which means they can CONSTANTLY be coming up if you are moving between screens, This is rather than every time you complete a level or task like you have structured your questions. I don't think that experience is quite being captured by in your survey.

Speaking of Usopp, I feel like they cut the Chu fight down a little more than he deserved, but the biggest thing I wish they'd kept was him *actually playing dead* and intending to try and slip away as Chu goes back to to the main fight. Grappling with his own cowardly nature is one of the best things about Usopp, so it sucks they didn't show that he actually was going to do it, and then changed his mind after being successful.

They didn't set him up enough as a coward to do that though, sadly

Yeah, honestly the Syrup Village plot is kinda all over the place and needed a LOT of trimming down. I've never been a fan of the set up running all over the island and of the final showdown by the beach or whatever where they fight Kuro and his crew, it just seems like a mess and that Luffy should be more affected by getting cut up so much. The biggest thing I miss is the "he goes so fast he cuts up his own crew and doesnt even care" bit, but the Freddy Krueger mansion stalking was a wayyyyyyyyyyy better use of Kuro.

Jango is great, but it would be tough to include him without making him the star of episodes. Not really enough room to share the stage with Kuro, and would require a lot more screentime to split the pirates into a mansion group and an outside group, so they just kept the henchmen as helpers in the mansion.

I do wish Usopp had gotten a *bit* more of an opportunity to do something - stand up for himself or Kaya, and to actually do something useful fighting wise. His one little sling shot wasn't much. I almost don't even remember that it happened.

They've changed his personality a lot, but overall it works really well. Zoro isn't deadpan or sarcastic normally, but this guy won me over. In general, it's a diversion from the source material, and might not really have been necessary. But the choices he makes like standing up for the little girl in the restaurant are somehow both in line with his new personality *and* inline with his normal personality, so it all works for me.

Zoro just straight up asking for sword was pretty awkward. He just looks super entitled. It meant a lot more to me when he emotionally stated his oath and the master chose to give him the sword to carry on his daughters memory. It felt more like an "eh i guess here you go" in the live action. It's odd to make little errors like this because they should be so easy to catch and fix.

Isquen posted...
You know, back in the early WoW days there was an experimental RTS called Savage where it was "asymmetrical" in that, while there were at least two teams, there was one "overlord" and any number of other players on the team. The overlord would play like a usual Warcraft/Starcraft game, except the other units on a team weren't (all) AI-controlled - the overlord could only SUGGEST that a player-controlled unit go do a thing (gather stone, gather lumber, go hunting, attack the enemy) and could grant players boons (using the team's gathered resources) if they listened to them. Or if they felt like it.

It failed for one reason or another (probably because keeping as many players running at once was really wonky at the time, plus the usual brand of online cheating - lax security, most notably overlords forcing uncooperative people to move with no input from the worker/soldier unit, but then you would have dickhead soldier units turn on godmode and harass worker players) but as a proof of concept, it would be neat to see that implemented again in a fun way.

Unless such a thing already exists and I don't play it. I'm not much for RTSes anymore.

Oh I think I played this. It was very wonky to play, but it was a pretty fun concept. It was made by S2 Games, which went on to make Heroes of Newerth, one of the first moderately successful Dota clones. Unfortunately, they were way too similar to Dota so the game basically died when Dota 2 came out and everyone moved over. RIP that studio.

It was a lot like Natural Selection, which started as a Counter Strike/Half Life mod. It was basically FPS Zerg vs Terran, where a map would start and as an Alien player, you would be a zergling called a Skulk, and you evolve your little guy into a Gorge which was pretty much a drone and you could look for resourec nodes to build harvesters on and expand the infestation or you could spend resources to become a Lerk/Fade/Onos which were like a Mutalisk/Hydralisk/Ultralisk. So you could just run around and fight or be a little work bee

On the flipside, the marines would have a command chair that one player could get in and be THE COMMANDER and he could assign tasks to build certain buildings like armories or resource harvesting nodes and give orders to players to go set those up, or give orders to go look into areas with alien sightings. So one person kinda is playing an RTS while the rest of the marines are playing FPS, while the aliens have a more decentralized process

It was awesome. they eventually made their own standalone game as Natural Selection 2 on steam. Not sure if people play it anymore.

The devs went on to make a little game called Subnautica, and their most recent game is in early access still called Moonbreaker, which is meant to feel like a miniatures table top game like Warhammer in video game format, set in a universe Brandon Sanderson made up for the game.

Back in the day I put off getting into One Piece for a long time because of the art style too, but it really grows on you, so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

In my opinion, watching the anime subbed is the best way to experience One Piece up until around episodes 300-350, which is when they caught up to the manga and it was around 1 chapter per episode after that. Then switch to the manga. Not that you really need to commit to watching that many episodes anyways.

I wonder how much One Pace cuts out in those initial 300 episodes.

The shopkeeper stuff is really badly implemented, but here's what I know

  • Higher charisma will lower prices of items you buy and increase the amount you get for selling
  • The character you talk to the vendor with is the charisma that affects your prices - you can switch do different characters inventory to sell from and it still uses the character you talked with. For me that's Wyll
  • You can donate gold to the vendor to improve their attitude towards you. This is done in the barter screen by just dropping some gold in the trade window and completing the trade to give it to them for nothing in return. The amount approval changes by depends on the level of the character you did it with. At level 1, it costs 600 gold to max out and get the best discount. At higher levels, it goes up steeply and is never worth it. So the best time to do it is if you just respecced someone. You could use a level 1 party member that sticks around camp that you don't use, but the attitude only applies to the character that did the donation, so you'd have to talk to the vendor with that character. The max attitude bonus savings are pretty decent if you are buying items that cost thousands of gold. 600g could be worth it sometimes, but often isn't. It's never worth it at the higher level costs.
  • It seems to reset this on attitude bonus on long rest. This might be a bug, it sounds like it should persist once you've improved relations with a certain vendor
  • As another note, vendors reset their gold on level up. If you've brought a vendor down to zero gold, it will give them back a decent amount of gold. But also if you've sold a bunch of stuff to somebody and they have a ton of gold, that will disappear after you do a level up, so be careful if you were planning to sell a ton of stuff to that vendor and get it back.
  • Also, as you get higher level, vendors will get new stuff, so it's worthwile to visit vendors and see if they have any cool new items that fit your builds that you'd like.

The idea that they think they can enforce this on existing games is crazy. Like if a game launched five years ago, had a large player base, but has largely died off and isn't having sales anymore.... there's still going to be people who own the game who install and uninstall whenever they choose to revisit an old game.

This company thinks they are going to take this new policy and go hit up the dev (who never agreed to anything like this) and tell them to pay for these installs?

It sounds like there's a lot of outrage by smaller devs about this, and I'm not sure if they'll bend or try and fight in a class action or something.... But I think any real company would just laugh the Unity bros out of the call if they tried to push it. There's no way this actually gets enforced.

The druid grove resolution not allowing you to confront Kagha after you've dealt with the goblins is just bizarre. It definitely feels like the sort of accusation you'd make in the aftermath when you return from your big trek, so the mechanics of the game requiring you to do it beforehand (with no indication of that) is just annoying.

Oh, yeah I have to say it's strange that they did Coby dirty in this episode if it seems like they are gonna expand him for the season.... we should be done with him, and they cut out his best parts, why would you expand him now?

They cut him finding a spine and standing up to Alvida

The end of the Morgan stuff was weaker than before. Zoro's stuff with the little girl in the bar was good there, but not connecting protecting her with him being tied him made it kinda weird that he allowed himself to be stuck there, and made his presence in the base from then on and why he chose to help Luffy feel pretty clunky. Having the notion of staying there to protect the townspeople was kinda the throughline that made all of that work.

Then in the climax in the anime, Helmeppo takes Coby hostage to get Luffy and Zoro to stop. Luffy recognizes Coby's resolve and just punches Helmeppo tf out while leaving himself unguarded to Morgan's attack from the back, trusting Zoro will take him out. It solidified Zoro as joining the crew, made both of them look cool as hell, and Coby grew in determination. Was missing out on all this just to stick Nami into the battle royale worth it?

THEN there's the scene where Luffy beats Coby up to make him look like he's not a friend to pirates to the marines

God the show is making me reflect and actually like Coby after all these years, that's messed up. But the show didn't do any of those things wtfffffffffffffff

Even though it's silly and cheesy I cannot believe Zoro didn't say "i kinda got my own thing going on here" when Luffy asked him to join his crew . They somehow made up a catch phrase for him and i bought into it and totally expected him to say it AND THEN HE DIDNT WTFFFFFFF

The only reason I upgraded was because the charging cable kept falling out and refused to stay in for some reason, and I heard about wireless charging and that sounded pretty cool. Changed my life. Other than that, I'd probably be using the Pixel 2 for years to come.

It has been an understanding in the back of my mind that many people upgrade phones every 1-2 years but that sounds nuts to me. It can't be true.

Spellcasters mostly don't get extra actions, they do however get the next tier of spellcasting on odd levels, and the ones at level 5 are very good (fireball)

Just in case anybody isn't aware - bashers get the extra attack at level 5 which is huge, but spellcasters do get an improvement to their cantrips by adding an extra damage die. IE Firebolt goes from 1d10 to 2d10, Ray of Frost / Sacred Flame / Bone Chill go from 1d8 to 2d8, etc. I would say this isn't as good as an extra attack, but it's something. Especially since cantrips generally don't get damage increases from your casting stat or anything

Uniquely, the Warlock cantrip Eldritch Blast doesn't get an extra die, it fires a second beam. so it goes from 1d10 to two separate 1d10 attacks. This is really good, particularly because any damage bonuses you might have will get applied to both beams separately.

Re: difficulty. I'm on Tactician and I've found it to all be pretty easy. The only time I hit a wall was when I ran into a group with a level 5 enemy in it when I was still level 2-3. It was probably doable with some SPECIAL TACTICS but I just came back later as level 5 and tore em apart.

I've been playing with my main as a necromancy Wizard, Wyll as a Warlock of the Chain, Shadowheart as an Ancients Paladin with the Sentinal feat, and Karlach as a Berserker with the Durable feat

Just got lvl 6 on finishing the Grymforge, so I've gone ahead and respecced Wyll to Fighter 2 / Warlock 4 and Karlach to Berserker 5 / Ancients Paladin 1 with Great Weapon Master and slightly respecced Shadowheart to the same thing but Great Weapon Master also

I think I am much stronger now but we will see in the goblin camp!!
