It really isn't the same.

Gambling is about giving money with the slight chance of getting more money, and also feeds into compulsive behaviors. Microtransactions feed into same, only instead of money back, it's a chance for in-game items/power. The compulsion is the charge one gets over possibly winning. This is all well-documented.

There is no "chance" involved with Twitch streaming. The streamers are very upfront if they offer a service for X amount of donations. Whether that service is doing jumping jacks or reading out a viewer's name.

Similarly with sex workers. Pay X, get Y. It's not like you pay a prostitute some money and then she spins a big wheel to see what sex act you get.

The attitude I keep seeing from people here is not worry about poor lonely men being "taken advantage of", but instead the revulsion towards people with the audacity to have generosity to offer money of their own accord for what is otherwise a free entertainment service.

CE's not big on generosity, in my experience.

Anyway, sometimes we witness crimes and criminals and we come out... maybe not understanding, but at least with a perspective of where the criminal came from. This is clearly not one of those times.

I'd say this Friday is my company party, but more correctly it's my client's company party.

But they do a nice setup. Like six different food stations throughout the building serving different stuff, and apparently it's all real good.

Also they've got shuffleboard and karaoke set up for entertainment.

Also I hear a rumor that a dashing guy with a Z in his name is setting up an Ultimate tourney, but that's just rumor.

That wasn't the reason I was in town. I was actually in town to see a taping of the Colbert Report. Other times we've hung out included for New York Comic-Con.

I actually don't think I've ever donated to her stream. If "their type" means a nice person who I like to hang out and be friends with, then fucking guilty as charged I guess?

Gotta say I seriously expected you to back off a bit once I addressed it ("correct me if I'm wrong" and all) but now you're just doubling down and it's sad.

Yeah, when you make things up, I guess it does sound pretty bad.

I was in town for a different reason and asked if she wanted to hang out. Her bf came along to make sure that I wasn't an Internet weirdo or someone making assumptions. We all had dinner together. They paid for theirs. I paid for mine. After that, her bf left us assured that I wasn't going to hurt her or anything, and she and I hung out for a few more hours. And in the multiple times we've hung out since, the bf didn't feel he needed to come along.

She was then and remains now a good friend.

EDIT: Oh and this was years before she started streaming anyway.

Few ideas.

For one, lack of knowledge of the Infinity Stones and even Thanos in general. The stones seem to be a pretty well-kept secret, and Thanos doesn't really seem to be a public figure. Ronan was public, sure, but not many knew he had Thanos backing him.

For two, Thanos' attack was largely Earth-focused. Earth is not a member of the galactic community, and even in galactic situations, certain cultures tend to hunker down. The Kree didn't want anything to do with Ronan, for example, when he threatened Xandar.

Three, Xandar was attacked. We never saw the extent of it, but they mentioned that he toppled the planet to get the Power Stone. They and the Nova Corps are probably one of the more prominent governments in the galactic scene, and they couldn't do jack against him.

Four, the attack honestly seemed to go pretty quick. The entirety of Infinity War lasted a couple of days at most. Daytime in New York, nighttime in Scotland, then daytime in Wakanda. That's very little time for any kind of galactic force to mobilize.

They actually do exist, but are a very small industry. The cultural difference between Asia and America seems to play a big factor there. I guess Americans are more happy with the boobs on strippers and the sex from prostitutes, rather than the status that comes with women paying attention to you, pouring your drinks, and asking about your work.

It's a bit of a paradox for me. Adults can make decisions for themselves. If they admit they can't, they really shouldn't have most other rights that come with being an adult, but that's a whole legal can of worms, so essentially, I think we let stupid people get themselves in trouble to preserve freedom.

I think there's a difference between being promised something and having that promise reneged ("dumb teens in porn") and being given something and making further assumptions about that thing (assuming you have something deeper with your favorite streamer).

In the former case, there is more than likely some manipulation and deception involved.

Not so in the latter. Being pretty and having an attractive personality is not manipulation.

If there are twitch streamers promising more and reneging on it, that's one thing, and I'm sure there's an example or two, but all this stream drama is 99% on the person who made assumptions, expected more from the streamer, and is disappointed that the streamer never actually even offered it.

The problem in my mind is the tone deaf nature of it all, that trailer in particular.

The trailer is aping a scene in the show where the main characters are helpless and expecting an execution, not a fight. TWD in general is about the helplessness of mankind against a threat beyond their scope to deal with, and that is very much at odds with Tekken's tone.

Think of it another way. Remember the Jason and Alien trailers in MKX? Did they show either of them in their horror element? No. They showed quick intros of them being introduced to the franchise, and then going right to the fighting. They didn't have an MK character cowering in a cabin or a spaceship so scared that the bad guys were coming. They showed cool stuff.

That actual scene in TWD is now weaker because they made fun of it in this trailer. One of the most tense and heart-wrenching scenes is now a joke with goofy fighting game characters.

If they had just shown footage of Negan fighting, and maybe a little intro of him taking down some zombies on his way to the fight with... say... Jack-7, then it'd allow him to slide better into Tekken's tone.

Instead we're treated to the garish shot of Kazuya, Nina, and the rest in the position that Rick's gang was in, which is just... off.

But whatever. Maybe AMC will get their money's worth off this.
