Aye. Think among Asians, staying at home with your parents till you're married isn't out of the norm if there isn't other reasons to move out.

Smarkil posted...
If you have to pay your parents, just move out.

That's where I'm at a lost in understanding this mindset. As mentioned previously, I feel there needs to be a practical reason to move out. Moving out just to move out is a waste of money and being financially smart is part of being an adult in my opinion. It's like what some folks have stated previous, everyone is bound to have different reasons. There's no one-size-fit-all answer to whether or not to stay at home/move out in my opinion.

Smarkil posted...
Part of being an adult is learning how to manage a household. Even if it's as simple as an apartment, you still have to deal with rent, management, utilities, etc. It's part of establishing a basepoint for managing your own life and finances.

I will agree living at home does offer a cushion which can potentially hinders one ability to learn and experience the concepts you've mentioned. But it isn't like one can only learn such concepts while living away. Some of us do contribute or take over on bills, property tax, home insurance, etc. while also maintaining the house.

Thank you for the responses. Thinking on it a bit further, I can see how getting too comfortable living at home can potentially lead to other issues (i.e. not seeking a better job that is too far to commute, being too loose with money, etc.) but I'll agree with you folks that everyone has their own reasons to stay or move out even if their reasons may not seem practical to others.

I have seen some folks stated on PotD that there is no reason to stay at home once you have a stable income. That thought plus the other topic about retiring just got me thinking as to why one would essentially leave arbitrarily unless one actually has a reason to.

I can understand moving out of your parent's place if you don't get along with them, if you feel its too cramped, if you want to be with friends, if you want your own place, if you want a shorter commute to work/school, if you want that alone time with your boy/girlfriend, if the cost of living is too high, if you're buying your own condo/house, etc. I feel these are all practical reasons to move out.

But the one I can't understand, and maybe never will, is moving out just to show you're capable of living on your own and standing on your own two feet. Who exactly are you trying to prove yourself to? Yourself? Your parents? Your friends? Society as a whole?

I can understand being independent is part of being an adult but I would assume being financially smart is also part of being an adult. Am I missing something here? Some feel being an adult and being independent mean purposely spending more money on rent?

Maybe my views are too narrow but I feel some are suggesting you must be willingly and purposely spend more money on rent, utility, etc. to show you're a capable adult. Disclaimer. I'm aware some folks cannot afford to buy their own condo/house so rent is their only options. But as mentioned above, I can understand there's a time and place when moving out and renting makes sense.

Comments and opinions are appreciated,

Thank you

As an engineering, hopefully no later than 75. At that point I hope to volunteer at some national park as a ranger maybe. Can only hope I've been investing my money wisely enough. Besides those wanting to work, it's kinda dreadful to see someone that old who still need to work depending on the type of work. My mother is in her 70's now and retired. I do not want to imagine her going back to her cashier job and standing hours on end or moving grocery around. She's fit and surprisingly strong for her age but I still do not want that kinda physical work on her.

That's good. Better than brushing the potential issues under the rug and pretend everything came back perfectly.

As someone who grew up with Disney movies since the late 80s and 90s, I'm fine with adult characters not falling in love. It feels too cliche when that was the norm among most of the movies. Granted I am 35 years old and single so that very well could be why I'm fine with the cliche route not being used.

On a more harsher note, I feel some kids are too influenced by said characters so if anything I think it better that they don't grow up thinking finding the prince/princess of your life is the "norm" either.

Lastly, is the effect of Hulk's snap talked about at all in the newest spider-man movie discussed at all? I mean, all the people that died are just immediately brought back to life while everyone else's life has advanced five years. I mean, what would be the odds of all of Peter Parker's friends/classmates disappearing in the snap? It seemed like everything just went back to normal, but admittedly not much was shown at the end of Endgame

Friends and I briefly talked about this afterwards and felt they only touched on the good things from bringing people back but didn't touch on the potential mishaps. If it was shortened to maybe one year instead of five years we felt enough can transpire to make it so Tony want to keep his daughter but not so big of a gap that other issues mighta arisen.

I do weigh out the price and stuff. I might buy something more expensive if I think its better, will last longer, or will better suit me...

I feel that's tougher to gauge depending on how one has used said products. As an example, my one pair of polyester hiking pants lasted me several years and only now is starting to have issues with a pocket zipper and the fabric is ripping in one spot but overall they're still fine. This is from using them several to a dozen times a year for the entire day of a hiking/camping trip. I recall buying these pair of pants for $60-70ish from REI.

My normal daily use cotton pants have lasted me about 3-4 years before the fabric started ripping with a built-in AC at the seam. Without going into details of polyester vs cotton, I find it a bit difficult to compare the two type of pants given the different material/amount of usage. These cotton pants costed me about $30-40 from Old Navy.

I'm being vague as I'm sure some folk's opinion will vary depending on what said product is. One product might be worth spending the extra cost on whereas another product isn't. In general, do you ever gauge the extra cost of one product versus another and when factoring it its usage over multiple years?

For whatever reason people piggybacking off an email discussion with another topic bugs me, at least enough to bring it up on PotD. To me it is a bit distracting to get a reply on a topic not at all related to what the email discussion is about. If said person simply wanted to reuse the emails that already exist, it's a simple effort to just copy-paste them in a new email instead of doing a reply-all/forwarding within the same email.

I'm sure its weird me asking about this on a public forum were users are prone to trolling/derailing topics but I kinda would think people would be more courteous in an email discussion to stay on the topic at hand and if they need to announce something, to do it in a separate email to the same group of people.

Do people simply do it out of laziness? Instead of copy-pasting with a new email? Or in some cases people feel sending out too many different emails will just discourage people from reading the different ones?

Out of curiosity I looked up Justin Wong's winnings and I'm surprise it is only about $82k in total. I'd assume he has/had other forms of income via sponsorship though. Last I heard, he's working for Capcom in some form or another. I do wonder how well older professional/former professional gamers compare to those in their teens and 20's. I'd imagine that slightly faster reaction time can make a big difference.

I would say no only on the grounds that the best form of advertisement, to me, is word of mouth. No amount of advertisement to me can replace hearing the good or bad of a product from someone I trust. For someone like me who no longer watches television and only stream stuff off Netflix, my exposure to advertisements is fairly minimal. I might occasionally see something on Instagram, Facebook, GameFAQs, YouTube, etc. but it rarely grabs my attention.

Yes. Been to one at a mall several times with friends. Bowled maybe once, played darts couple of times, but majority of the time we're just there to kill time playing arcades while waiting for our movie showing. Overall I enjoy it more compared to places like Dave & Buster's due to the better arcade game selections at Round 1.

What is the major factor in your decision to play a certain race/army/faction? Style of figure, lore, play styles, or something else?

I apologize for comparing the two but I use to play as Tyranid simply because they're the closest faction to the Zerg and I kinda like a mindless hoard-like army. That said, it was a pain in the arse to assemble all those models so part of me regrets not going for an army with fewer but more expensive models. Despite this, if I ever get back into Warhammer 40k, I am interested in the Orks just because of how bizarre they are. Tau is a close second if I want a more shooty army.

Speaking of which, any folks here have a recommended YouTube channel to follow Apocalypse games? That is probably way more points than I am willing to spend money on but I find the concepts really interesting and curious how titan-tier models function in-game.
