Voted yes but reading the question again asking if he could retire now as in he will not pursue a long term permanent career. I would say maybe with a possible no. I say that because even if he's careful with his spending and investments, it takes time for that investment to come into fruition. Even with minimum spending and assuming the worse possible interest gain per year, he might only break even at best.

Now if he uses the money and pursue a long term permanent career while using it wisely and investing it, I definitely can see him retiring earlier than most and/or at least being able to live out a comfortable life.

Anyway I blew about $60 total

Seeing how little you spent compared to me, I feel even more of an idiot when I agreed to have a private session with my friend and two dancers during his bachelor party at the Sapphire in Las Vegas. I was willing to waste $300 for the required bottle service but should have left soon as they mentioned later that the $300 was on top of the $500 individual fee for the one hour private session.

If anything, think I'm more mad at myself for not suggesting the Best Man take my place. I mighta been fine paying the $800 for both to enjoy it since I was bored the entire hour in that private booth. This was four years ago and part of me is still annoyed with myself for caving in.

At another bachelor party two years ago several of us spent $900-1000ish for our own table in the main dancing room at the Spearmint Rhino in Las Vegas. We were also given two bottles of liquor of our choice. Granted it wasn't a private private session but good grief that was a way better deal than what I paid by myself at the Sapphire. One other friend and I were still bored though and we just played on my phones or read news apps while our other friends enjoyed themselves.

Few dancers approached me and surprisingly were not pushy in getting me to buy a lap dance. Maybe it was my body language but they were actually polite in asking if I wanted company and a simple head shake from me was enough for them to leave me alone. Kinda weird to see that kinda customer service from a strip club but was a welcomed experience. Only thing that got me annoyed was when our actual waitress wasn't allowed to bring us water anymore. I ended up just taking a glass cup to the bathroom and drink from the sink. I can understand they would rather we drink the liquor, get more drunk, and spend more money but gotta let your customers stay hydrated as well.

I honestly don't get how they even come close to making min wage (most of them) based on what I saw tonight.

Curious. Is it anything similar to restaurant laws where the owner is suppose to pay the difference between tip and wages or they're paid a fixed wage and they're on their own with tips?

Its stupid. All you're doing to making the people ignorant of other cultures even more ignorant.

See the first harry potter book.

That's a remarkably stupid viewpoint since, if a person has no context for something, having that thing exist doesn't really benefit anybody unless you're including explanations at which point you're disrupting the flow of the novel.

Depends on the mindset of the person I'd say. Personally I would stop reading/watching something to look up said word and find out what it is. It disrupt the flow of the reading/watching but I learned something new in the process.

Not 100% sure but regardless of what happens to the TC in this situation, in the long run could he still get stuck with the bill since by registering he is taking up a seat that another potential paying student could have taken?

Granted in practice we all know at the start of a quarter/semester some students will have dropped said class and by the end the class might be down to half of what it started off with. Also I'd imagine it depends on the policies of said college/university.

TC stated the financial aid office said he only won't be allowed to register for the spring classes and grades might be held but I feel that is only the short term consequences if he doesn't obtain said scholarships within a month which still seem like a very small window.

On another note. TC, I hope you read this tidbit in AU's payment and disclosure statement. I'd imagine it is standard wording in any disclosure involving money but what the financial aid office told you might just be the tip of the iceberg.

The University has the right to take action to collect the balance, including, but not limited to, the following: prohibit you from scheduling classes for the following semester; withhold course credits, academic transcripts, and diploma until the balance is paid; turning over your account to a collection agency; and taking legal action to collect the balance due. You also authorize the University to release financial information about your account to those concerned with collecting the balance owed. If the University incurs any expenses in collecting your account, you shall pay all the University's cost of collection up to 15% of the total outstanding balance. This includes, but is not limited to a collection agency fee and/or reasonable attorney's fees.

I have lost track of the exact details of TC's situation in all this but any particular reason why TC couldn't obtain scholarships for the first semester? Grades weren't good enough, didn't bother to apply, or simply not enough to cover the fees? I only vaguely recall him saying he was told he was set only for that to change and the window for the scholarship passed already.

Thinking about it a bit I first thought why not change the law/rule so that there is no minimum number to make a quorum to avoid situations like this. And then I realize that itself causes problems where you potentially can have individuals from one party or another meeting and voting without the opposing parties there to vote against.

Is there any such system where such approach/abuse can be avoided or there's always bound to be some loop hole? I was gonna suggest these representatives should do their job but I guess stalling a vote is technically doing it if it goes against what their party wants.

Anyone who refuses to tip isn't "fighting the system" like a hardcore rebel, they're just being a self-centered egotistical insecure little dips*** who probably shouldn't be using these services in the first place. You're hurting people who rely on it as a part of their job.

As mentioned above, I tip 18-20% on average but I disagree with the concept of tipping. I feel tipping is more of a bandage treatment than fixing the system as a whole and getting workers to be paid a proper amount so they need not worry about making the difference via tip. Unfortunately it seems fixing the system is less practical compared to continuing this bandage treatment of tipping

That being said, I have heard of cases where workers make more in tips than what their regular pay woulda been but I feel this isn't the norm and not something to go by.

RedPixel posted...

I never do, tipping people to do their jobs always seemed like an absurd thing to do.

Even though I tip 18-20% on average, I'd agree tipping for doing their job seems like an odd thing. I'd rather said workers be paid a fixed rate instead employers supposedly making up their pay if the tip doesn't cover enough. I feel like that's potentially less headache with workers trying to make up the difference via tip if employers are not legally obligated and employers who supposedly pocket the tip money.
