Fallout new vegas had the better survival mode. Plain and simple.

I personally thought FO:NV survival mode to be very tame and borderline negligible even at the beginning of the game. That being said, FO4 survival mode is kinda the polar opposite I thought.

Certain aspects of FO4 survival mode is more of a nuisance than a challenge. Whatever challenge it is meant to give quickly goes away after several levels and establishing a settlement. Some like the lack of fast travel, continues to be a nuisance.

I wrapped Sanctuary in metal walls. There's only 1 way in and once inside it's a death trap.

Kudos to you for doing that without mods. I had to use a "place anywhere" mod as it was beyond frustrating when some little doohickey prevents you from placing an object down and/or you get floating objects.

Still, is it a guaranteed raiders can't spawn inside? I'm not 100% sure but thought it depends on the settlement. I think for Sanctuary they approach from the vault, bridge, and somewhere to the east. What happens when they meet your wall? Do they actually go around to the entrance?

My guess is with the amount of Unsullied and Dothraki left and him being their commander does gives him some pull plus with Tyrion no longer the Hand of the Queen, chain of command probably does far to him anyway. Just cause Daenerys is gone doesn't necessarily mean her "faction" is I'd say.

SPECIAL of 1 Strength

You're going to hate you're how little you can carry.

It definitely was a nuisance with my current character. I eventually caved-in and installed a settler beacon mod to come pick-up junk and items I leave inside containers I find. I don't think even a Strength of 10+ would make a difference for me though. I have this mentality that I must clean out a place of all lootables so regardless will find myself making multiple trips to/from the places I explore. The extra 100+ carrying capacity will only reduce my trips by a few I'd imagine so I just went with the mod.

Dunno how this conversation devolved into who is better at a single player video game but think I'm gonna start over with a SPECIAL of 1 Strength, 4 Perception, 1 Endurance, 6 Charisma, 6 Intelligence, 5 Agility, and 5 Luck. Not being able to pick any locks at advance or above was rather frustrating and even more so when I realized I'll need to spend four attribute points with my original 1, 1, 1, 10, 10, 4, 1 setup.

Having only 16 settlers before equipment buffs is still a reasonable amount to handle the various shops and farming. Now it'll just be a matter of how will I level up quickly in the beginning without abusing the crafting approach and how to copy my previous physical appearances.

Reading this topic is tempting me to start over but rearrange my SPECIAL attributes a bit. I started with 1 Strength, 1 Perspective, 1 Endurance, 10 Charisma, 10 Intelligence, 4 Agility, and 1 Luck.

The 10 Charisma has been useful in maxing out my settlers but I haven't even touched the INT 7+ perks. Think I might shift those four points from Intelligence to either Perspective or Luck. Maybe getting a Luck of 5 and grabbing Idiot Savant will make up for the 12% bonus EXP I lost from the four points of Intelligence.

How did you folks handle the early levels when you're more squishy than a fly? Crafted stuff for easy experience or just explored the nearby areas? I tried that but the raiders at USAF Satellite Station Olivia were rather challenging at level 2-3.

I chose to play with Survival difficulty for my first and current playthrough. First several levels were frustrating to the point that I caved-in and used a "save anywhere" mod when I was trying to do the "Returning the Favor" quest at USAF Satellite Station Olivia. Surprised me how quickly a chaingun will gun me down at level 4. That mod is handy for the occasional crash though which fortunately has been few and far in between.

After 10+ levels and getting some proper defensive perks it felt like the difficulty took a nose dive. I thought about starting over again since the first several levels were not "pure" as I cheesed that quest with the "save anywhere" mod but at level 30+ now I'm still having fun and it doesn't bother me enough that I'm not truly doing a Survival difficulty run.

Still, I'm entertaining the thought of just starting over on Normal difficulty. Feels like once you get the proper perks and upgrades, Survival difficulty doesn't feel that much different from the other difficulties but I do appreciate the feeling of having to travel manually and not use Fast Travel. Feels like I get more out of these games when roleplaying in this manner.

She gave me an ultimatum of two weeks before going back to her flip phone but fortunately it took her maybe a week to get accustomed to the smartphone and now enjoys it.

Now she's quite capable of using her smartphone but I do manage it every now and then (i..e clearing caches, etc.) and told her to not let anyone touch her phone or install anything. If her friends and a relative suggest certain apps, she's to tell me which ones, and I'll take care of the rest. Doesn't help that majority of my aunts, uncles, and her friends are iPhone users so their lack of familiarity with Android might lead to more harm than help.

to InfestedAdam about Arya

I think the idea is that Sansa ordered an expedition for her sister. they probably sent out a notice of it and asked for volunteers who wanted to go. and that's how they put together a crew, under orders of Queen Sansa, to accompany her little sister to anywhere she desires to sail. they probably eventually find the GoT version of North America and have many adventures and found colonies and shit

Fair point. Arya wouldn't have been able to sponsored such expedition on her own. Though I would hope there's more than one ship involved. Such expedition would be too risky with just one ship.

On another note, can someone name off all those lords and ladies at the end? I apology as I skipped some seasons, having read the books, so only watched bits of Season 5 and all of Season 6 mainly.

We have Sam Tarly, ????, Edmund Tully...skip ahead to Gendry Baratheon, ????, Yara/Asha Greyjoy, and the rest I don't recognize.

More or less the same for me. The previous episode left a bad taste in my mouth but I expected a bittersweet ending and I felt this last episode delivered on that mark. That being said, besides Drogon's response I don't know how Arya is capable of captaining a ship unless she is simply leading this expedition and someone else is the captain.

EDIT: Though the fate of the Starks was bittersweet for me, I was happy with the fate of the other characters.

Copy and pasting what I wrote on the A Song of Ice and Fire forum.

So about those dragon breaths. Other than the fiery aspect, is it a concentrated blast of air too or something? I know it is all fictional so I don't want to put too much thinking into it (unlike those ballistas in S8E4) but the way those stone walls were being blasted away seems unreal.

I know there were wildfire throughout the city but we didn't see any of that till later and we have seen ships blown apart but I that's hollow wooden ships versus stone walls. I can accept there being quite a bit of pressure in those breaths with how far they can breath it out but didn't expect it to be so concentrated and strong to blast through stone walls so easily.

Thanos revised plan of instead wiping out the entire universe and remaking can still be seen as wrong even if the new lives that spring up will not remember the blood and bones that which it was built on top of.

My friend and I briefly discussed this and felt five years was simply too long of a gap. A year at most mighta been more appropriate to give the team enough time to figure out what to do, gather allies and material, build what they need to build, etc.

Personally I think several months mighta been more appropriate but of course the producers just had to raise the stakes by introducing there are personal stakes at hand so the team couldn't simply undo everything or return it to how it was prior.

Bugmeat posted...
It could have just returned everything to the point in time immediately before Thanos snapped everyone away. Then none of these questions here would have even been an issue.

To add to my comment above. My friend and I both felt it wouldn't be right either to unmake all the kids born in those five years and undo the lives of people, especially the ones who were able to move on. That being said, it's like what I mentioned above, five years was simply too long of a gap.

I think his shield gets a pass only because of "magic" or rather because of the fictional metal, vibranium that it is made of. It is like what some folks mentioned earlier or what that trope link suggested. We can accept the impossible when given the explanation of there being magic involved and/or special material being used.

But when we're expected to accept something ordinary somehow defies the laws of physic or something very unlikely to occur even within said fictional world, then it becomes something that is questionable.

Reality.

Pick one.

This is one of the cases where I balance between suspension of belief and accepting there's still some laws of physics/reality involved. Accepting there are dragons and walking dead because of said fictional world and whatever magic that exist? Sure. Accepting that said ballistas were capable of launching bolts that far, fast, and with such low reload time despite all the mechanics involved? That I would question.

We can't question the dragons or undead since that is beyond something our world can explain. But we can question the effectiveness of the ballistas since we can apply real world physics to said device.

I'm no historian but I do have doubts historical ballistas/scorpions have that kinda range. In terms of effectiveness against a charging army, I'd imagine one bolt can take out several human beings. Perhaps it is more of a psychological thing and less of trying to thin out the enemy's numbers.

In regards to Game of Thrones, I can't help but think it would still take Euron and his forces time to reload the ballistas and crank back on the arms. Daenerys may have had a chance to use that time to flank or come behind the ships assuming the ships aren't staggering their shots.

Probably about 17-18%. I tend to just double the taxes and round up/down from there to the nearest even dollar. For example I had all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ this past Saturday with friends. Bill was $258.87 with taxes being around $22. I ended up tipping $41.13 for an even $300.

Also, what do you think of tipping in general?

It should not be expected in my opinion. It should be extra payment for exceeding the expected work load and I feel the wages of the workers should not at all be influenced by whether or not said workers will get tipped or not.

miki_sauvester posted...
Do you think it should be an accepted practice in your country/area or not?

Seems like a touchy subject in the States. In other countries, I've heard it is almost insulting to tip. My friend tried to tip once in Japan and the workers insisted he take back the money.

As mentioned above, I'm fine with it being a practice in the States but I feel it shouldn't be expected. Whenever I go to Cold Stone for example, it baffles me a bit to find a tipping option just for them scoping some ice cream into a bowl. Kinda the same for tipping the bartender but at least with them they might give you a bit more if you they know you tip well. I can understand it with mixed drinks but not so much for pouring a beer.

That's no coincidence. The Lannisters are the most powerful noble family in Westeros and have been the real power behind the throne since before Robert's Rebellion.

Is this explained in the books? Because I just bought the audiobook for the first one. Havent touched it yet though

They were among the richest Houses due to all the gold mines on their land. Tywin Lannister himself was the previous Hand of the King to Mad King Aerys.

They were in a favourable position and I think Tywin wanted Cersei to marry Rhaegar. However I think Aerys thought the Lannisters too low of a family to have that happen and instead promised Rhaegar to Elia. Jaime was also made Kingsguard which further pissed off Tywin cause now that deny him being able to make Jaime his heir.
