I have a Scouting food drive to drop off stuff at. I am thinking to drop off a 50 LB bag of rice which surprisingly is being accepted. I guess certain family are big enough and/or they deal with foster children so there is no concern of needing to divide up the bag.

I live in Los Angeles County. Fortunately I am still working regularly. At the worst our company reduced office hours by half for a few weeks back in April or May. Besides work, I go out only for food and a few essential errands. In-person Scouting activities has taken a pause and most is being done virtually so in terms of free time I have plenty of it at the moment.

Getting accustomed to the clicking battles is probably the biggest/only hurdle in my opinion. Once I got used to the timing and learned to use the signs and potions, the game was not that challenging to finish. If anything, I felt so beefy toward the end of Witcher 1 that I kept dying at the start in Witcher 2 from having the incorrect mindset. I went from fighting several enemies in Witcher 1 and barely getting hurt to struggling just to fight two enemies in Witcher 2.

I like to gather as much information as possible regarding the issue before taking action.
When I was doing interviews for engineering positions, I kinda say the same as well. That I take too much time evaluating something before making a decision.

In reality, this really is a weakness of mine still. I sometime triple check my calculations and ask a senior engineer to review my work before proceeding just because I am not always confident with myself. Oddly enough, one time I was correct on something but because it was not favorable for the client, I kept doubting myself and thinking I made a mistake when my numbers were correct. It was kind of a relief to know I was correct, even if it was not favorable for the client.

darkknight109 posted...
My job is to be brutally honest with my clients, which occasionally involves telling them things they don't want to hear.
I have a coworker who is like that with our clients. He does not beat around the bush when telling clients whatever material they want to use will not work. As he always say. We are engineers, not magicians.

Gaawa_chan posted...
I'm not assertive when speaking to people face to face.
Even over the phone I struggle with this. Recently I had to repeat to a client more than once we needed a certain note on our drawings because the building code requires it. Client kept saying other engineers/companies do not use that note. My manager is a lot more blunt in telling said clients to go to those companies then if they do not like our company's standard but I do not feel I have the seniority to say that.

I would assume anyone else who is a long time engineer in any major company would be making good money. Me? I am making only $58k annually before taxes. Younger me in my early 20's thought if I get a proper gaming mouse with the adjustable DPI and a gaming mouse pad, I could slowly crawl my way up some FPS games such as Tribes 2, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, Team Fortress 2, Unreal Tournament, PlanetSide 2, etc. I was given a rude awakening of just how much better other players can be when I would often die before I even realize another player is in my sights.

That said, despite being on the receiving end, it never ceases to amaze me when some player snipe me out of the air in Tribes 2 with a Spinfusor. I think Titanfall mighta been the only FPS that I felt I had some decent chance at. When it comes to 2D fighting games, my friends can easily stomp me but they said despite the hundreds of hours they play Street Fighter, Marvel vs Capcom, etc. other players who puts in thousands of hours would stomp them.

In my experience, you want as many similar designs as possible because the people doing the installation will have an easier time.
Thank you for that reminder. I often look only at the numbers and am occasionally reminded by my supervisor and other engineers to keep in mind the field aspect of a project. Friend of mine works as an airplane mechanic and he loves ragging about engineers who design something without field conditions in mind.

We have had projects that were small enough where cost wise it may not have made much difference between multiple designs that a one-size-fit-all approach made sense. We have also had larger projects where designing for the worst case and applying everywhere would be too expensive so clients would ask us to size components accordingly depending on usage.

Thinking bout it a bit, some manufacturers might simply have standard components that they would commonly use even said components are more than capable of meeting a client's need. Said manufacturers do offer smaller/lighter/weaker components but sometimes still default to their standard.

I work as a civil engineer. Some clients want to use as little material as possible while some go with a one-size-fit-all approach even if it means over designing. I can understand reducing cost with the former but cannot fully grasp the reasoning for the latter.

In some cases I assumed the client bought some material in bulk and want to use the same design everywhere instead of multiple unique designs for each location. Some major clients such as theme parks, airports, etc. want to over design for safety reasons. Some are just trying to future-proof the design so the material is still usable later.

I have no experience with the sales aspects of my line of work so can only assumed maybe certain material are more readily available or already made so it is cheaper/easier to use said material instead of sizing down to meet the design criteria.

To those familiar with what I mean or have experienced this, why would some clients want to use more than is necessary for the design criteria?

Comments and opinions are appreciated,

Thank you

Maybe not dumbest but still on the dumb side in terms of being a sensible person for one of my age. For example, me simply being mindful of what I eat and how much. I also have one cousin who is blind from diabetes. One might think I would be more careful with this many people in my personal life having health issues and even more so with the cost of medication in the States but instead I do little to nothing to address this.

Maybe when I was younger I could give myself more overall leeway in how I manage my life but at this point I really need to be mindful of various aspects such as health, finance, long term career(s), etc. if I do not want to see myself with issues 30-40 years from now.

I only have the perspective of my sister and brother-in-law who had to put down a $20k down payment on a $700kish home in Los Angeles County. It is a decent size house but I am sure $700k in other parts of the county/state/country will go further.

In terms of getting a loan, assuming she is co-signing with her boyfriend, I can only assume her limited credit history could hurt them in getting a decent interest rate.

We saved 7500 to secure our mortgage within a year and bought a house.
Unless I missed it, TC does not mention where she and her boyfriend got their home. For something of that amount, what kind of house would they even have depending on location?

Curious. Are some fans' beef with her claiming the Skywalker name is because Luke or Leia did not officially "adopt" her into the family and simply annoyed that she claimed the name on her own?

Given how some fans refuse to acknowledge Disney's material as canon, had Luke or Leia did "adopt" Rey, would some fans had been more accepting of that or still refuse to accept her as a Skywalker due to her Palpatine bloodline?

Given how large the fan base is, I am sure we will never come to an agreement and that is perfectly fine. Some fans do not acknowledge anything outside of the Original Trilogy and I see nothing wrong with that either.

That is my interpretation as well. I just wished their interactions were over a longer period of time. I think between The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker was about a year or so? I wanna say one cannot really put a time limit before one becomes "part of the family" but it still felt kinda fast. From A New Hope to Return of Jedi was over a period of a couple of years I recalled and there were a few books in between for character development. Again, I know time does not automatically mean a bond is formed but the Sequel Trilogy kind of flew by rather quick.

Could I live without a smartphone? Yes. Could I live without a basic cellphone? Probably not. I rarely talk/text with anyone and I can still play my mobile games on an emulator but texting is still my primary means of communication with family and friends so not having at least a basic cellphone would be challenging.
