Is it fair to say culture, upbringing, and peers are also a factor? I certainty was not a straight A student but I had the typical Asian parents, the typical Asian mindset, and friends who were in AP and Honor classes. Doing homework was the norm and expected and though I had less than likeable high school teachers, I still did what I was told. I know not all Asian students are like that but my parents and friends kinda kept me in line so to speak.

Hopefully I would be emotionally stable enough to sue for only the cost to fix the situation and any potential loss of wages. As for tacking on additional amount to cover trauma and potential future medical cost, I honestly do not know how one puts a price tag on that.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Speaking of not getting extra, I certainly hope I do not get into a situation where I need to discuss the amount/service to fix something. If I am not willing to pay X amount to fix something and would rather go somewhere cheaper, I cannot expect the person covering the damage to be willing to pay the same amount. But if I am willing to pay X amount but the person wants to go somewhere cheaper.....I just hope I do not get into such situation.

Some of my cousins encourage their kids to steal certain gifts hoping no one would want to steal from a kid. Of course it just result in other cousins encouraging their own kids to steal from the other kids. The kids are getting older though and might rather go for their own choice.

We have long running joke with a thigh master device. My cousin re-gifted it 10+ years ago and ever since it became the "punishment" gift where the winner must keep it and re-gift it again the following year. Some folks have included $15 so the winner still gets something. People have gotten creative though in using different boxes/bags since everyone knows what shape/size box to avoid.

My family, cousins, and relatives do it every year. Budget is $15 but I usually spend around $20-25 and bring something useful. The exchange is meant to be fun and games but I very much rather bring something I hope will be kept/used instead of tossed aside.

Best part is all the stealing or someone getting robbed only for them to open another gift and it is the same thing stolen from them. I feel sorry for the kids who open gifts and find something like dishes, lotion, perfume, etc. Surprisingly Tupperware is always a popular item that gets stolen.

Thank you for the input. I still have my dad's ol Craftsman corded power drill but prefer cordless nowadays for the convenience.

While reading up bout drill drivers and impact drivers, was surprised to find out impact drivers are supposedly not ideal for drilling holes and are meant more for driver screws/bolts. I thought most power tools have the option to turn-off the hammer/impact action so they can act as regular drill drivers.

The most common thing I do at home is drill/screw stuff to the walls, ceiling, etc. A simple 12v drill driver is capable without spending that much for the tool, battery, and charger.

Then my mind wanders to what if I need something more powerful down the road. I spoke with friends and was suggested to upgrade when I need it. Of course the more powerful, the more expensive and when there is a sale I do not need an upgrade but when I might need an upgrade there is no sale.

To any DIY folks, how/when do you decide to upgrade your power tools? Do you try to get "one-size-fits-all" power tools that will cover a wider range of usages or do you upgrade as you need them?

Comments and opinions are appreciated,

Thank you

I prefer Uber/Lyft just because of the convenience of the app and being able to pay via my credit card. I remembered one particular experience with a taxi when I called the dispatcher? and was told the driver accepts credit only to be told by the driver he does not take credit.

Maybe the dispatcher or driver was pulling my leg but being able to set my destination, find a ride, and pay via the app makes Uber/Lyft a lot more favorable for me.

Among my friends, family, and relatives who are against more taxes, the reasons are are a mix. Some simply do not care for the less fortunate. Some are upset by those abusing the system and would rather leave them all out in the cold. Some see no reason to be taxed for something they would not benefit from (i.e. education when they have no children). And some simply do not believe the money will be used properly even if they support the purpose of the tax. I cannot agree nor understand the first reason but I can understand the the last three even if I do not agree with them.

Among my friends and me, we do it for the surprise factor. We been doing a $40 Secret Santa exchange for the past few years. Each of us create a wishlist of specific items or post ideas of what we like. I always post ideas instead of the specific items simply because I wanna see what my friends think I want.

One year a friend gifted me a 8Bitdo controller which was perfect for my Switch and not something I would have ever thought to purchase for myself. Last year I received a mortal & pestle and torch for cooking. Unfortunately the mortal & pestle are currently glorified paperweight as I have not found a need for them yet so the surprise factor has its downsides.
