(Warning: assumptions galore) Since the journal gets posted alongside the flip if and only if they die, in a vacuum it would be difficult for Death to say "hey I'm the reason they got to do that". I view the redundancy as acceptable since if either of us dies it makes it less likely for town to have to take info with them to the grave.
