Peridiam 02/05/20 3:47:24 PM #157 | I think so. Are you saying it's terrible due to balance? If so, I wish it was more balanced, but after the past few years, I don't have high standards for Aussie editing. It's definitely become the worst part of Survivor AU, sadly. That said imbalanced editing doesn't ruin a season for me. It can hamper it if the remainder isn't very fun, but from what I've heard AU edits around the week. I think the storytelling for this week was a great start. --- |

Peridiam 12/29/19 1:55:19 AM #338 | Maybe. Not sure I can recall loving it. Im watching the RLM review of IX and loving how much this movie makes no sense to fans of SW. I cant say I thought much about a lot of their issues with the movie, but then I kinda feel like these films are hoping for that in the first place. I sat in a 4DX chair and treated it like a 2.5 hour amusement park ride. Enjoyable, but also :( --- |
Topic | Star Wars Episode 9 Discussion SPOILERS |
Peridiam 12/28/19 7:57:08 PM #318 | I saw it tonight in 4DX. I had no idea that was a thing but I also never watch movies in theaters (or watch movies much at all these days) so I decided to give IX a go with this weird immersive experience. 4DX was pretty cool. Lotta air puffs to my head. The back punches were a fun touch. I enjoyed the movie and from an outside observer of the SW fanbase I didnt get much of the criticism in this topic. But then Ive also never found any of the films to be that great, including the OT. Id probably rank the ST above the OT even (but the PT is still last, ugh the acting/script were so bad there... painful). I might have TRoS at the top of my rankings, which probably seems abhorrent to the superfans of the series. Either that or TFA. It took me two watches to get on board with TLJ. I still find the OT to be basic and more just relics of their time. Very cheesy and overhyped. Again, blasphemous opinions, but I rewatched the OT before TFA and did not get what made them so good. They were fine, simple, but not much more. Kinda like I had to be there at the time, or have been raised on them, to truly fall in love. TRoS wasnt perfect and Ive definitely begun to question more of it after reading through the problems brought up in this topic, but then Im also like... well, Im not sure Ive ever loved SW more than anyone here anyway, so perhaps Im not critical enough of the series, or Im viewing it wrong, or its just not my jam (despite enjoying the ST a decent amount). A part of me wonders if SW needs to be viewed so critically, because I dont think its intended to be, but the other part of me gets it. Im fairly critical of the stuff I go crazy for, so why not SW? I dunno! 7 > 9 > 8 right now. --- |

Peridiam 12/20/19 3:55:31 PM #28 | There's also a twist called "fire tokens" that make a brief appearance in the promo. I think they're a form of currency that assist players on the Edge, they can cash them in for amenities/advantages. The promo shows something about "pillow/blankets" costing like 4 tokens. I'm fairly certain the advantages can also be gifted to players in the main game. so that'll be exciting --- |

Peridiam 12/20/19 2:31:37 AM #9 | Australian Survivor is legit. But I'm more hyped for Winners at War just because it's 39 seasons in the making, and it's... 20 winners. But I'm also really hype for Aussie All-Stars. I've enjoyed all 4 seasons of Aussie Survivor and I'm fairly confident the new one will be just as fun. Peridiam 12/11/19 9:24:43 PM #268 | I don't think the entire focus was shifted - just a lot of it. But that's because the general consensus was agreed upon. Peridiam 12/11/19 9:18:33 PM #265 | I think most people I've seen on social media - Twitter, Reddit, YouTube - already wrote Dan off the moment it happened. Not all, but a vast majority. Missy/Elizabeth were more debatable, it wasn't so night and day. Their situation was complicated for many. So the discussion revolved a hefty amount around their choice of actions instead of Dan's, who most saw as awful without the need to question. --- |

Peridiam 12/10/19 6:40:00 PM #90 | Whiskey_Nick posted... but seriously, reading this topic. Why do you guys care what Ulti does? And Ulti why even respond? I don't really care, but I've also been passively observing B8 for over a decade, and Ulti can be loud. And easy to recognize from afar. He's active and makes waves -- hence why I think he could do well with some other medium beyond text. Like everyone else, we all have our thoughts and takes on others. I have opinions on many users on this board, as I'm sure many others do as well. But I find Ulti more fascinating than most because he's so clearly flawed, and he's often kinda... off... about it. I think he thinks he's in total control, but really his strings are tangled and he does everything to cover it up, or perhaps worse - ignore it. His shit can really stink. And when you smell it on and off for over a decade, you begin to get disgruntled and wonder if he can just not shit the bed again. And then a topic pops up and here we are, reminded again that Ulti loves to take big shits -- and this time a larger userbase is rushing to open the window and let the waft out. So that's about the extent of me caring, at least. Very passively, from a distance, on and off since around 2008. I'm the neighbor who opens his blinds, shakes his head and goes back to minding my own business. --- |

Peridiam 12/10/19 12:59:33 AM #26 | TomNook posted... Hasn't modern reality TV been pretty much limited to Kardashians, teen pregnancy, and singing shows? Not sure he'd really fit there. There are niches for just about everything on the internet. If you speak loud enough and with enough conviction, you can find people willing to listen. Especially if you can figure out how to market yourself. "Ulti is an act" leads me down two trains of thought: 1) He is an act, in which case that's kinda sad. Like foolmo says, the ends really don't justify it being an act. Where's the gain? Flashes of amusement? I know people have performed for less, but really? 2) It's not an act, it's just bad enough that people think his MO is so absurd that is has to be fake. I think 2 is more likely, hence why he'd fit with some kind of niche podcast where he could actual gain something tangible alongside the downvotes. --- |

Peridiam 12/09/19 10:56:03 PM #17 | Ulti is akin to why people are obsessed with low-brow, drama-seeking reality TV. Guy is kind of a personality trainwreck and says wild stuff. Clearly hypocriticalnot even a question. A good start. Karma farmsclearly his ways translate well to text. He loves a tiny soapbox. And he cares, given all the deletions. If he can harness that energy in front a camera I could see him having his own show. Heck, just having a decent voice and he could get his own podcast, assuming he can speak as well as he can write. I dont know. Its wild to see him get called out by so many people. And then the downvotes. And the deleted comments. I dont think he really gets ita scary thought. But parts of low-brow RTV shows are based on just not getting it. From my perspective, hes woefully addicted to Hearthstone, is flushed with spare cash to do what he wants and drown out the haters, and thus its a cycle of rinse and repeat. He doesnt really change (despite constantly saying he does) because he probably never actually needs to. This works for him, I guess. Give him a podcast. --- |

Topic | What are your top 10 Games of 2019? |
Peridiam 11/18/19 2:52:00 PM #40 | Not sure I've played 10 games this year... 1. Apex Legends - Way too many hours put into this game for it to not be #1 (currently at 150 hours). Played with a buddy the entire time and it's been a total blast. I'd absolutely pay $60 for this free game. 2. Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition - A very solid RPG that I'm really glad exists. Checks all the boxes except for maybe a more complex plot, and the difficulty is a tad easy (even though I know you can modify this, I didn't because I was new. Didn't realize how easy it was.) 3. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening - My first Zelda from way back when, just as great as then, if not better. A total delight to play again with the unique updated graphics. I flew through this game so quickly, all for the better. 4. Assassin's Creed Odyssey (including The Fate of Atlantis) - When it was good, it was really good. But there's so much stuff that it brings the experience down. I enjoy the gameplay loop but wish there was more substantive content that doesn't feel cut & paste. Overall a good experience, though I didn't 100% it unlike Origins. 5. Fire Emblem: Three Houses - Haven't beaten yet but it's really good, if not a tad repetitive. I find the monastery a little jarring, somewhere between amusing and shallow. Combat is tricky enough (on hard) to keep me invested, and the characters have been pretty good. It's a WAY better game than Fates. 6. Luigi's Mansion 3 - A little less enjoyable than Link's Awakening, a quick tour through a strange hotel. Some floors had me hooked, others had me mildly bored. Combat is shallow and I feel like the game isn't fleshed out enough, even though it's very polished. 7. Kingdom Hearts III - A tad disappointing, though it still hooked me enough to see to completion. Everything felt like it was held together by duct tape though. Story was garbled, pacing was shot, but the combat and environments were really enjoyable. 8. ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove! - T&J 1 & 2 are two of my favorite games (or they were as a kid) so this was a great throwback, but it didn't hook me like the first two. I'm not as big into roguelikes as I used to be. Once I beat the game I didn't want to go back. 9. Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled - Had never played the original, decided to see if it compared to MK. It didn't. I think it's more skill-based... but just not nearly as fun. Really repetitive with little variance race to race. Beautiful tracks though. I also dropped the game once the company began to introduce micro-transactions to keep me hooked with daily doses of rewards. I quickly realized I wasn't enjoying the game enough to trick myself into continuously playing. 10. SteamWorld Quest: The Hand of Gilgamech - Kind of a shame given how much I love Dig 1 & 2. Quest should be my cup of tea given I'm pretty receptive to card-battlers and RPG's, yet this one felt restrictive and kinda clunky. Small in scope, the gameplay loop didn't grab me, and the final battles were so drawn out and kinda difficult that I just decided to not even bother. --- |

Peridiam 11/17/19 9:28:50 PM #353 | I follow GRRMs not-a-blog weekly and keep up with the general happenings on r/asoiaf - probably the best hub for that kind of news. If TWOW was released next year I wouldnt be surprised. 2021 at the latest. His pace is a joke, for sure, but the world crafted is so damn rich, the moment I read A Game of Thrones Ive never lost interest in the series. Ive always heard great things about WoT but never gave it a look. On top of the sheer amount of books in the series, Id heard RJ writes weak female characters which kinda put me off. And Im not a fan of Mistborn (stopped after book 1) so Im not sure how much Id get out of Sanderson either. Breaking Bad is my favorite TV drama, possibly my favorite TV show outright. Watched the whole series, then rewatched it a month after it wrapped up with my girlfriend. Ive never seen her react so strongly to any form of media. KP, have you read The Witcher series?
