Peridiam 05/14/20 4:23:34 PM #364 | I think Sarah stands a good chance at winning that F3 if she makes fire faster than Tony. I also think Natalie should've given up her necklace. The "wow" factor goes a long way, especially for someone who had only been in the main game for like 5 days. She did well to pull 4 votes but I think the right play was giving up the necklace and beating Tony at fire. I said it live before she lost and I still believe it -- that's the winning move. Understandable why she wouldn't though. She had confidence in herself to pull the win regardless, but oh well. --- |

Peridiam 05/08/20 12:11:23 PM #48 | It's jarring to see so many here dislike it, when it's one of my faves. Mind you, I haven't played it since like... 2015, but I very much enjoyed the gameplay. Had no problem with the shooting, melee, the tactics from moment to moment. The performances were phenomenal, the narrative hit all the right beats to me. SO emotional and gives me those "exactly what I was hoping for" lines in the dialog, such as with Ellie in the cabin house in Fall. Or the giraffes. I can see why some don't like the ending but I didn't have a problem with it. It all came full circle. The one thing I wasn't a fan of was Joel's injury before Winter hit. I don't think he survives that. --- |

I don't care for the Edge, and so for the first boot to get back into the game, especially one who's had a twin sister who was first boot on their original season, is pretty wild. It's a bizarre circle. --- |

Peridiam 04/14/20 11:18:19 AM #219 | Troyzan posted... It's not so much that BB15 was specifically controversial, as it was that this became the beginning of outrage culture seeping into the show. Every season from here on suffered because online users felt entitled to ruin the player's lives if they didn't agree with anything the player said. BB15 aired in 2013, which by total coincidence was the first year that Twitter was a Top 10 most visited website. Big Brother felt obligated to cash in on all the live feed moments that Twitter users were offended about, so they would often show less savory things (which have always been said on the show, but aired less, due to social media not having been quite nearly as prominent until this year). This has lead to a lot of very awkward moments where Big Brother tries to serve some kind of justice to appease a userbase that can never be appeased. I would say BB15 was pretty controversial for the stuff that happened regardless of social media, more so than any season before it, but I also do agree, social media played a big part in the producers deciding what should be shown to the casual audience in the edited episodes. I watched the feeds religiously from BB12-BB15, and I can say firsthand nothing in BB12, 13, or 14 was nearly as bad as what was said in 15. 13 did have Jeff's homophobia (which didn't air, IIRC), but I believe that's it. Meanwhile 15 had The show did include nasty remarks in prior seasons too, such as with Kent, Erika, Dick, Adam, etc. But I don't think the producers were trying to editorialize the comments as much as they do in 15. I'm currently rewatching BB15 and it's amusing how much the show buries --- |

Peridiam 04/12/20 6:17:43 PM #16 | Yeah, I completely sympathize and can relate. We had to put our family cat down right before Christmas in 2018. It was so sudden. I very rarely cry, but I let it all out in the car before I walked into the vet hospital, then in the room, and afterward. Watching my cat that I'd grown with since 2001 get euthanized was rough. I think about the experience from their perspective and the whole ordeal is just... something else. Your cat's cute. I'll go hug my current cat for her. --- |

Peridiam 03/30/20 3:19:49 PM #68 | Without the live feeds to fall back on, I mostly just rely on what's on the screen. A large majority of BB7 is both Will & Boogie maneuvering together, and when it's clear they're both working en tandem, they both get credit. For example, during week 3, Will is nominated alongside Jase. Will asks Boogie to ensure they have the votes, and Boogie has a great scene where he's in the bathtub with Janelle and Erika working them over. Clearly it was Will's zany idea to get himself nominated to reduce his threat level, but we also see Boogie putting in the work to win over other players. Will obviously wins over Janelle hard too (though this becomes clear in week 4). Boogie also has a great moment where he forces George to take out Howie in the double eviction on a spur-of-the-moment decision, where George was targeting Will and was securing votes to get him out. I'm not sure Will does get voted out here (I'd actually bank on him staying), but Boogie still manages to get his way all on his own. Same thing will keeping Will off the block at the F6 when Erika wins HOH. Erika wanted to nominate Will but Boogie convinced her not to, and instead she turned her sights on Janelle and Danielle. Boogie manages to both save his showmance and his bromance several times all on his own, which ultimately keep him insulated really well all season. Mind you, so does Will. Will plays a superior game between the two for many more reasons, and his game is the one that dominates the airtime no doubt, but Boogie deserves credit for much of what CT does too, as it was a two-man operation all season. So I don't really split the credit so much as reward them both for what they accomplish together (which is a lot). --- |

Peridiam 03/30/20 1:21:32 PM #66 | I also went back and listened to the RHAPpy hour BB winner rankings with Taran/Brent/etc from 2015 and they had Drew at #11 of 16 (right after BB17 aired). I think he was a little low, as I'd have him above Lisa, at the very least, and probably above the BB17 winner too. --- |
Topic | Survivor: Winners at War Topic 2: Kill It With Fire (Tokens) |
Peridiam 03/30/20 1:14:16 PM #65 | From what I've been able to glean, Drew's game is a combination of skill (stringing along Diane, forming secret alliances w/ twins, knowing when to jump ship), and circumstance, a bit like Jun in a way, but imo a little less deliberate. His Holly nom was questionable, and even though it worked out for him, it buried his initial alliance and moved him closer toward getting evicted sooner than later. He legit cried and regretted his decision to nom Holly after the fact, but then correctly pivoted away from the 4H in between the veto ceremony and her eviction, eventually rallying to keep Adria. He created a situation that wasn't to his favor and then made lemonade out of that same lemon. Probably his best move, to re-align with the house and save Adria (who he would later work with at a key moment in the season). He had an immaculate social game, that's for sure. Was picked in every veto (at a time when you had to get picked to play). Was only nominated once, at the F5. I do think he's screwed there, at F5, if he or Diane don't win veto. Thankfully for him the veto comp was incredibly easy to manipulate to his favor. That said, unlike with the four winners I mentioned earlier, I think Drew often kinda fell backwards into a good position. Like he really struggled with his first HOH and it entirely worked to his favor, immensely so by the end of the week, but it wasn't intentional. The house looked at him like a good guy who was in with the wrong crowd, but he never seemed to desire to be seen that way. He just had a lot of trouble making a decision, was torn, struggled, and everyone felt bad for him. Which is great for him, but also doesn't leave me impressed. Drew had a mixture of being in alliances that didn't last long and then floating with the power of the house week to week. He was regularly at the bottom of the power structure but was always saved for last, until it was too late for everyone else. I really hope I can get around to making a video about him this summer. Also Diane. BB5 is underrated. --- |
