You can get a lot done on foot if you're up for it and visit when the weather is nice. The classic tourist spots are downtown: The Bean sculpture, the Art Institute, Sears Tower (it's officially called Willis Tower now, but you'll get local cred for calling it Sears). The Chicago architecture boat tours are highly recommended to visitors and locals alike. From there you can walk to Navy Pier, or even along one of the lakeshore beaches. The lakefront is such a huge perk of the city. But Chicago is truly awesome because of all the different neighborhoods within the city borders, each with their own kind of scene to offer in terms of local business and nightlife.
