I also enjoyed through these chronologically, really got a sense of how the genre has evolved in conversation with itself.

I was surprised how much I enjoyed Resurrections, maybe my second favorite of the bunch

With RLM I get the sense the main guy only sounds insightful/knowledgeable as long as he's going after low-hanging fruit. I used to enjoy the Plinkett reviews back in the day but on revisiting them I found them needlessly nitpicky, like in one of the Star Trek movies he spends five minutes harping on Picard mishandling a prop because it contradicts the precedent set in Season 5 Episode 13 or w/e for how that prop was handled, and just stuff where you'd have to be scanning for things to complain about. And it only tracks because the movies are already easy targets

I like it more when Jay brings a guest on to do something like Eraserhead and they can both be enthusiastic about it

Checked out The Public Enemy and Cagney lives up to the hype! Really dials in the template for so many gangsters of the genre, felt like there were hints of Liotta and DiCaprio in there. I'm guessing Scorsese was a fan

Yeah Strange New Worlds is my favorite of the new series, and I gotta give credit to Disco for test-running that crew in S2. I don't know if we'd get the full spinoff if they didn't set up Captain Pike so well. His show's been knocking it out of the park so far.

Picard is an incomprehensible mess at this point, unfortunately.

Lower Decks is okay, feels like Family Guy but the cutaway gags are all Trek references which is both lovably dorky and exhaustingly navel-gazey

Prodigy is surprisingly good for being aimed at the youngest demo. I grew up watching Reboot, this show's animation blew my inner child's mind

It's a mixed bag but I think the good outweighs the bad. It has a hard time sticking the landing on the season-long arcs, that's the main flaw for me. The cast is talented enough to keep me invested and, while superficial, I think the high production value is refreshing for a franchise that had looked pretty hokey before this series

There are very few charismatic candidates on either side right now. Dems have Bernie, and maaaaybe AOC. GOP has Trump. That's about it. Biden is probably in the Top 5 right now and that's kind of sad. Desantis might become President or whatever but it definitely won't be because he's charismatic.
I watched Obama come onto the scene with his famous 2004 DNC speech, feels like the Dems have nothing close to that level of charisma right now. The old boys are past their time and AOC isn't even old enough to run until '28*, if you consider her charismatic.

Remember when Howard Dean's campaign imploded because he got excited and went BYEAHH that one time? Dems could probably use some BYEAHH energy nowadays

*I guess she technically turns 35 a month before the next election, but does anyone think she'll try this time?

Yup! In fact, this movie has the best opening scene ever for a sequel.

I was so stoked that they hit it right away. Well played, movie

This felt so keyed on Star Wars (use the force, Rooster!), which itself was obviously inspired by the dogfights of the World Wars so it's only fair for Top Gun to put its stamp on the trench run. It works really well, it's intense. I don't even think the first movie is that solid but this one nailed it

Naturally, the solution in the 2A mindset involves increasing firepower. I think Elon Musk could float Robocop as the answer right now and some people would go for it

Yeah that was a really cool comeback role for a child actor. I knew he seemed familiar but I couldn't place it, never would have made the connection to Goonies/Temple of Doom.

This movie hit all the right notes and then some, great theater experience not so much for the size of the screen but the catharsis of sharing a happy cry with a bunch of strangers. Thanks for the recommendation!
