but why? NHL rinks never change shape. the players always go in the same direction, do the same things over and over a million times. sometimes they make it, sometimes they don't.

fighting games literally have the same move list over and over. you use them at the exact same times. you learn the same methods. you do the same thing over and over and over again. sometimes you try harder, sometimes you don't try as hard. how is it not boring? it seems like it gets old quickly.
It sounds like TC is into honing skills and feeling accomplishment out of beating difficult challenges and getting better. There's a good chance that they also like competing with other people based on the genres those games are in.

Which is fine. If you know what you enjoy, good for you. Keep doing it.

But other people like different things.

Yeah this is especially odd considering how common it is to go back and rewatxh a movie or reread a novel that you really like. If it's a good story, yes, you can obviously go back and enjoy it again.

And then it's even odder when TC is not talking about "walking simulator" games where you just progress the narrative with little interactivity, but rather games like FF7 and Fallout where there is tons of gameplay content besides the story for you to enjoy. To the point where many people who enjoy them don't even pay attention to the story.

If you had a CD-ROM and your only internet source was a modem, Encarta was a great alternative to printed encyclopedias that were a fraction of the cost and didn't need a whole bookshelf devoted to it.

But once everyone had real internet access that pretty much killed it.

Well there is Daredevil's Silver Age origin briefly shown in the first TMNT comic.
That wasn't a real crossover so much as a parody. They show his origin, and the same chemical that gave him his powers seeps down and transforms the turtles.

The original TMNT comic was basically a parody of Daredevil.

Daredevil was trained by Stick... the turtles were trained by Splinter.

Daredevil fights the Hand... the Turtles fight the Foot.

And their ally Casey Jones is basically the Punisher, with sports equipment.

I think it's less that and more people saying it doesn't matter much what their "true" beliefs are, all that matters is the result. If they're profiting off of spreading hatred and making the world a worse place, then they are terrible people and whether or not it's "just a grift" is immaterial.

Also some people have pointed out how common it is for people who start out just pandering to right wing cranks to wind up getting high off their own kool-aid and become far right extremists themselves. So in the end, they wind up having genuine right wing beliefs anyway.

ROBANN_88 posted...
is that word supposed to be prevalent in Dune?
Probably the biggest historical event prior to the events of Dune is the Butlerian Jihad, in which humanity overthrew the technological overlords who were enslaving them and banned "thinking machines" (computers and AI).

It is also called jihad when the Fremen overthrow their oppressors and destroy the galactic empire in Paul's name.

Herbert himself used the term in a very nuanced way--that the violence is obviously terrible but sometimes is the only way for oppressed people to overcome imperialism and even greater violence of their oppressors.

However, he also only uses the term in relation to violent conflict, which plays into the general perception people in the west have of only seeing the term as meaning this. The term is actually very broad and refers to all kinds of struggle or overcoming hardship. So I can see why they might have thought it was better to avoid the word in that context.

Also love some split pea soup.

Frozen peas, I despised when I was a kid and still am not a huge fan. I'm fine with them in things like soups and stews but a pile of green peas, by themselves, with nothing but some butter or something? No thanks.

Canned peas are extra mushy and taste weird. Hard no from me.

Also it depends on my mood. Sometimes I don't want to eat something greasy so even if it's a really good burger I might prefer the salad. That's why I said 9 out of 10.
