There are more guns in Australia now than there were before it.

Then what's wrong with America? Why can't we behave with guns as well?

I could tell you, but posting statistics from the FBI is apparently "offensive" as determined by the moderation staff. Simple answer: Americans largely do.

If you aren't in a gang, aren't involved in the drug trade and don't break the law, your chances of being shot fall into statistical insignificance.

I don't want statistics. I want to know why America has worse statistics on gun violence, mass tragedies, and deaths by cop than the rest of the civilized world. "Black people" is not an explanation. Why do Americans behave worse than their peers?

Are any form of non-gun attacks as frequent in Australia as gun attacks in America?

Attacks in general are rare in Australia, as they were before the gun ban. The fact that few attacks happened after the ban is statistically negligible.

What's wrong with America? Why are we a bunch of violent animals?

And if the attacks are so much more infrequent as you rightfully say, then what is your point with posting that truck attack?

Are any form of non-gun attacks as frequent in Australia as gun attacks in America? I honestly understand the argument about the difference in gun culture, but can you argue that people in other developed nations without guns will kill each other just the same? The numbers don't seem to back it up. I don't even want to ban guns, but this is a poor deflection as America still just has more death. We clearly have some kind of problem that needs addressing. I know you will now respond with some variation of "Yeah X liberal policy".

Meanwhile we have a second amendment.

So basically you're saying having guns is more important than the lives of children. Super!

Yes, the overarching right to defend oneself will always be more important than individual tragedies.

What if the tragedies are more likely than defending yourself? If the 2nd Amendment said we have the right to burn coal, would you be against anti-global warming initiatives?

I just wish we could get the sex-negative brand of feminist to quiet down.

I think sex-negativity/fear in general needs to be dealt with. My old high school is still more afraid of showing kids Romeo & Juliet in bed than they are uberviolence. Kill thousands of people in bloody fashion and you get a pg-13, show someone without three layers of clothes on and it's an untouchable. My World Lit teacher told us the other day that there are more lesson plans online on how to avoid topics like sex in literary classics than there are ones actually treating it as the important theme that if often is in those texts. It is an integral part of the human experience and life in general but good luck being able to handle or discuss it in a safe environment

I agree. It is definitely an issue that needs to be dealt with all across our culture. Feminists were just relevant here.

I just wish we could get the sex-negative brand of feminist to quiet down. Being sexy is not inherently an issue and strength with no weaknesses is neither interesting, nor terribly realistic as they say they want to replace unrealistic walking pairs of tits/damsels in distress.

Sounds like he made a political move. It's not new to NASCAR though. Republican political candidates regularly pop up on a few cars during elections. A Blue Lives Matter truck showed up last year. The NRA has sponsored races and cars. They are always promoting the military. Etc. The rule of removing politics from sports because muh escapism apparently does not apply to NASCAR.

Buddy you once argued that since the CRA was passed in the 60s that there has been zero systematic racism in the country and use this argument to downplay any issues that racial minorities have had. And it doesn't matter if people cite you examples or argue with you, you insist they're wrong and you're right and that's the end of the discussion. So I'd much rather point out that your views on racial tolerance are entirely skewed because you live in a bubble.

You're moving the goalposts slightly now. The discussion is not whether systematic racism immediately ended in 1965 (something I never claimed), it's about whether it's still a major factor in 2018 and is still the primary factor responsible for the racial disparities between groups now. And while I'm sure you can find evidence of some bank discriminating against black people or some racist cops in some police precinct, you have no chance of finding data that show there is collective oppression keeping the entire group from progressing.

We argue as a society every time a minority or a woman is in an action movie or a video game. I don't want to hear shot about how beyond caring we are in 2018. Why are you making a current year argument anyway? You hate that

Or because we realized locking people up and stabbing icepicks in their brain may not be the best way to treat mental illness. Asylums were more prison than hospital. No, I'm sure it was just liberal outrage stemming from believing fiction.

Nothing is not a solution. It is the absence of one. "It's not guns" is the long and short of the Republican platform on school shootings.

It's not guns. Gun ownership has skyrocketed in the past 30 years and the homicide rate in America has been dropping at a faster rate in that timeframe than Australia's did after they imposed their ban.

And you're right, the solution is not "nothing". The solution is better police funding and a more aggressive mental health program that will incarcerate people with sociopathic tendencies like this guy had.

"Incarcerate people" was definitely the improved mental healthcare I was thinking of. You should be President and the head and chair of every department. You have the best solutions. Believe me, I know solutions and these are the best.
